I asked Steve Abbott tonight why the album was to be called 'Odyssey'. He said it was to reflect the amazing journey that Hayley has had for the past two years (since the release of 'Pure').
He also confirmed that there will be different versions of 'Odyssey' around the world. This is so that it complies with the rules which make it eligible for inclusion in the classical charts in each respective country.
I just might have to order them all!
Hayley was brilliant at Hampton Court but we will say more about that in the appropriate thread.
Roger

What a coincidence, we found it about this at the concert last night and then its up on the official site today. The name seems weird at first 'Odyssey' but when Roger was told by Steve the story behind it, it seems to fit into place and matched with the imagery of the front cover it really fits in well.
Hopefully they give us a picture booklet with the album like they did with 'Pure' and we also got to see another picture which was contained in the programme from the Hampton Court Festival.
I dont anybody will be able to wait until September so a pre-order for New Zealand and Australia is the best option.
Bye,
Emmett

Bit by bit more information is trickling out about the new album. Kimberly at HWF forum mentioned an update on Hayley's Official Japanese site (translated here) and you can figure out most of it but Masaya's translation looks a lot better and hopefully she won't mind me reproducing it here (I'd never have guessed "Both Sides Now" from Google Translate!): Ave Maria (Caccini) Mozart's Lullaby Mary Did You Know? May It Be (from Lord of the Rings) Both Sides Now (Joni Mitchell) and others. The surprise for me is "Mary Did You Know?" as it's on the UK Special Edition of "Pure". But less than 10% of UK "Pure" owners have have the SE so it will be interesting to see if it's on the UK release. The Japanese site also reminds us that Hayley is on a mini-tour in Japan, until tomorrow 7th June. Only 9 days to Hampton Court when we can try to find out even more from Hayley herself, or someone! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifOh, I've just remembered some more from last night at Hampton Court: Hayley has recorded 17 tracks for Odyssey to cover the different versions around the World - including duets with Andrea Bocelli and Bryn Terfel (this is in the programme notes). So we can add these to the tracklisting - even though I don't know what songs they are! I asked Steve and Hayley if Odyssey would be in the UK classical chart and the answer is - yes, no, maybe, hopefully Decca don't seem to be bothered about it but Hayley and Steve definitely want it as a classical album so it can be played on Classic FM, who were very good over Pure. Hayley said the classical charts committee are making it tough by arguing that some of the classical tracks aren't really classical at all and she wonders if they are trying to keep her out (they kept Russell Watson, G4, Il Divo and Andrea Bocelli's recent albums out). Well, they''ll have me to answer to if they try that one - I have their address! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif I get the feeling that Hayley's determination will win her that battle, I hope so!

*Makes mental note, 26/09* Why is it that Britain always seems to get everything after everbody else, normally last and not we're mnot far off that here? I know that if you look at a globe right now, wer'e a virtually a whole world away from New Zealand but it happens across the board, movies, TV Series, DVD releases, music.....tu tut ahhh, oh well. That's life i guess. This splitting of hairs by the people at the Classical Charts, well Britain is full of snooty people with their noses turned up so far they come out they abck of their heads, a shame really and we have the opposite too [nice to be in between i think], hopefully just a storm in a tea cup. I like the name, when i read the sentence the image of a plane flying from New Zealand and Australia to Japan and then across to Britain and Europe and heyond poppoed into my head, you know like on a computer generated atlas or globe with the plane leaving an arching line behind it between the destinations, like you see on TV. Anyway, enough of my imaginings. I imagine that its been one hell of a journey. thanks, Nick W,

I asked Steve Abbott tonight why the album was to be called 'Odyssey'. He said it was to reflect the amazing journey that Hayley has had for the past two years (since the release of 'Pure'). Roger Let's take another look at that in case anybody's classical knowledge is even less than mine. The Oxford English dictionary definition is as follows: odyssey n. a long and eventful or adventurous journey or process. Well, already it seems to be a very appropriate title. I'd love to know who came up with the idea. Must ask next time! The definition continues: "One of the two great epic poems of ancient Greece, attributed to Homer, which describes the ten years' wanderings of Odysseus on his way home to Ithaca after the fall of Troy." So there we have it. Unfortunately, when Steve first said it, I thought he said "oddity" which is defined as "the quality of being strange" and "a strange person or thing". Well really! Roger (confused of HWI)

Hmmm... nice bit of research there, Roger!. So, would that make Hayley's achievements over the last two years Odyssean? Perhaps Hayley herself may now be described as "our Odyssean princess?" i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifOne thing is certain, she most certainly is not a Space Oddity... nor an Earth one!

Thanks for that Dave Some strange places in there Mexico, Argentina? Must be a good market there or else a trip is on the cards. Looks like Asia is a big market, Hayley will be busy there if promotion has to be done in all those countries or they might just do Japan. Also, I was surprised by how long Germany has to wait. Maybe its to coincide with a tour but its still a good wait especially how popular Hayley is there. Somehow I can't see Lothar waiting that long. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifEmmett
