Well actually Joe........ They did!!!!! Cameras were allowed - but small cameras and not professional ones. The problem was that I had taken two short video clips on my camera and at the interval the (very) heavies came over and took it away - telling me I could not use any camera for the rest of the evening. I did protest later on and explained why I was photographing and they relented. When my other camera was returned they had formatted the memory card!!!! Cheers guys!!!!!! Needless to say, the other HWI members here and other concert goers and Ian and Fiona were outraged at this "over the top" approach. Great concert though. We did a lot of promoting HWI so look out for some new members! I did get some good pictures to post when I get back to the UK. Belinda and I are sightseeing in Picton for a few days. Ross joined us today and we went on the mail ship which cruised the Charlotte Sound for 5 and a half hours. Weather is great here . Bye for now Stuart (and Belinda) Very mean indeed!! I was afraid of the same thing happening to my humble camera at the NCH in Dublin in December. 'Hope it doesn't spoil the rest of your adventures. Paddy

Hello all,
Well that's rather shocking! Sounds like more bullying to me, than security. I sure hope that's the only place that happens. Otherwise, we are all in trouble....

Thank you Ross, Belinda, TimJ and Stuart for your reports! Stuart, it's a shame what happened to you. The camera police could take away your camera but I can't imagine they had any right to delete any pictures ... but formatting the complete memory card I hope you haven't lost too many pictures of your NZ tour. Thanks everyone for your reports so far.
Stuart - that's outrageous - I hope you didn't lose any other pictures. I look forward to seeing what you have managed to keep of the tour and NZ as a whole.
I hope it won't put you off the photography that we've come to appreciate from the concerts.
Maybe we should get you another sweatshirt that reads "HWI Official Photographer" to cover any such eventuality?
Would they have done the same if Gerald had been filming at this show?!
Best wishes,
James

Hi Stuart,
The fact that I haven't replied until now can be put down to stunned silence at the shock and dismay of the high-handed attitude of the security guy who formatted your memory card. I agree with everyone else that it is an absolute disgrace. I hope it is possible to recover everything. At least that way you will have the last laugh. Good luck!
Roger

Sorry to hear of what occured with your camera, Stuart.
They could have given you a warning first. But taking the camera was a bit much. Then they go and format the memory card...uncalled for.
Like was mentioned, I hope that some pictures can be recovered.
Chin up ... Joe

Hi Stuart I would like to pass on my sympathies also but did you get a photo of him afterwards? If so, we can publish it in the Hall of Shame. Best wishes Martin

Hi Stuart I am so sorry to hear about what happend - its way over the top I just know that this is not at all what Hayley would want to happen but I guess she doesn't really have much say in how these things are run. Still, I am very much looking forward to any photos you did manage to take Best wishes Mark

Hi Stuart & everyone, I am soo disappointed at what happened at the Brancott Estate I am gutted!! this should never have happened without a warning first. I don't think they have the legal right to interfere with any camera. I would be inclined to seek legal advise as I think there is an opening for redress. I hope you didn't lose any Mud House photo's Stuart by the way you were treated in Marlborough, it could well be the better venue for the photo's that you have sofar. All the best Stuart, Rodders

Hi Everyone, The guy was pretty intimidating, and i was far from impressed up until that point i was enjoying the show. Did someone mention The Hall of Shame And when Fiona and Hayley came on to do their pieces the well being i had felt at the two other concerts had gone and i wished i wasn't there. i totally blame the guy and the Woman that seemed to be pulling the strings. ] I would love these concerts to be an annual event i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifand it's obvious they would be well recieved but i would think twice if those people were involved\ I think Dave and Hayley are a perfect match for a concert togeather. And we showed our support i know some of Daves Cds were bought by some of us HWIers at the concert i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifBelinda

Hi Folks, The private security industry here in Ireland may have been similar to the way the security industry in NZ seems to be at the moment.
For a period here in Ireland the " PRIVATE SECURITY " industry , the smaller companies were made up of bullies , thugs , ex jail birds and para militaries, their main objective was to gain access to premises and cash deliveries without forcing entry. Arranging "Inside jobs " on cash in transit, cigarette and alcohol deliveries, and even major household appliances and computer memory chips when they were around £50 per Mb of RAM were targets for truck hijacking. Acting as bouncers and drug dealers at the night club doors. The list goes on..
This was soon sorted, some of the thugs ending up in jail for their over the top and illegal behaviour, judge after judge telling them they had no authority to behave in this heavy handed manner.
Our security industry is now heavily regulated, No person with a criminal conviction should work for or be allowed to setup a security firm,
I did notice the character in the pictures and thought he was hovering a bit close and was wondering if this was on Hayley's instructions because she was nervous or because he wanted to hover close to the star of the show and of course prove his RAMBO status.
I am also wondering is this guy part of the stage crew as well, if he is traveling from concert to concert ?

Hi Belinda, What were they threatening to do had he refused to turn the camera over? And why didn't they stop him from bringing it in prior to the concert? What do we need to do these days have HWI press passes or something?

Stuart, Obviously not a very good way to begin a concert. I'm terribly sorry that you had to go through this. Perhaps someone should send someone a note or an email expressing displeasure about the manner in which the security personnel handled the situation.
May this be the last time for such a circumstance.....for any of us. Regards, Gene
