Wow! Thank you all for the friendly welcome.
martindn: sonata58 is not my real name; it's just the screen name that I like to go by. It stands for Chopin's Piano Sonata No.3, Op.58 - my absolute favorite piece of music. And one that I've finally begun working on. (And yes, I did vote for Hayley at the Classical Brit website).
dutchjoyce: No, I have not seen Hayley live yet. The last time Hayley came to my area, I hadn't heard of her yet. But the next time she does come, I will definitely try to make it.
grant: More on how I discovered Hayley? Well, it's rather a long story, but I'll try to shorten it. I have loved vocal music for a long tine, particularly choral and ensembles. I asked one of my friends, whose father was a vocal teacher, for some other vocal music recommendations. He mentioned Josh Groban and Celtic Woman. I really liked the sound of Celtic Woman, but some of their songs were a bit too "poppy" and their staging a bit too glitzy for my taste. I do enjoy their more traditional numbers, though. Anyways, so one day I checked the Celtic Woman website, and I saw that they had a new addition: Hayley Westenra. I noticed that she had a voice that was just as, if not more than, beautiful to the other girls. That led me to read her bio on Wikipedia, and soon I found my way to her website. I believe it was the Treasure EPK that started playing. I ended up watching all the videos and listening to all the sound clips on her website. I was instantly drawn to her.
I have been (and still am, to some extent) a kind of classical purist. But, incidentally, all the vocalists I enjoy are all classical crossover. I think I found Hayley's voice irresistible, though I did not particularly like all the songs she sang. However, I've come to appreciate them more now. But, to me, her classical/traditional/religious songs will always my favorites.
An internet search on Hayley, brought me to HWI. And, thanks to HWI, I've been introduced to other great artists, in particular Katherine Jenkins and All Angels. Look forward to my time here!

I was introduced to Hayley Westenra over at Connie Talbot's forum. I had not heard of Hayley until I started haunting Connie's place.
I'm certainly glad I found out about Hayley. She has one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard. I look forward to listening to her music, catching concerts that I can reach, and following her career.

Hiya prairie matey, A warm welcome to the forum from England (if that isn't where you are from, do they know about Connie anywhere else). I think (hope) that I got in first to welcome you because the rest from around here are all over in Ireland where Hayley has two concerts this weekend. If you want to follow Hayley's career so far, it's all right here. As Hayley herself points out, we find out things about her before she does!! We look forward to more posts from you. Whereabouts are you from by the way? Martin

I don't think Hayley Westenra is that well known here, at least in my neck of the woods. That will certainly change. She does have one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard.

Hi Prairiemain,
May also welcome you to the forum. You will find it a very friendly place with everything you need to know about Hayley. There are many reports and videos that you could not find anywhere else. Look out for the reports from Derry and Belfast in the next day or so. They will I am sure capture the atmosphere.
Again welcome and may you get to see Hayley soon.
Jim

Hello Prairiemain and welcome to the forum from me too. Although Hayley does have a lot of fans in the US, she is not as well known there as we would wish. No doubt she will visit your side of the pond again in due course and, hopefully, her fanbase will increase each time. Meanwhile, I hope the coverage we can give from elsewhere in the world goes some way to compensate. I look forward to your future posts.
Best wishes from southern England! Roger
