I hope all our American friends are going to be safe from the Hurricane Irene. It looks like it could do a lot of damage along the East Coast. I see they are evacuating parts of New York.

Oh dear Joe, what a time to lose it. You have a lot of catching up to do - our princess has been busy.

Thanks MartinD and Larry.
I really know how to pick my vacation days! I have Monday and Tuesday off (Party Paradiso) but...
Hurricane Irene will be a storm to remember! My Sunday morning began with rainwater coming through the chimney. Then at 10 am the power flickered on and off several times. It gave out completely. No lights, heat, hot water, or internet. We cooked on a camping stove. There was minor damage to our trees...I measured a wind gust at 50 mph and nearly 4 1/2 inches of rain. The hurricane's center was 90 miles away at its closest. All of the food in both our refrigerators and freezers had to be thrown out. We were able to receive three gallons of spring water and three bags of ice at a relief station in the supermarket. Finally after 31 hours the power was restored at 5:30 Monday. Some estimates said between two and four days! It looks like the electric issues zapped our TV in the living room. I'd say the storm cost my family about $750. But Im very grateful that, just now seeing some horrific images, to not see flooding or structural damage. Unfortunately five people were killed in northeastern Pennsylvania due to the hurricane.

Hi Joe Glad that you got through the atrocious weather without too many problems. At least the damage can be repaired but it is sad there was also loss of life.
It brings back the memory of our storms back in 1987 (the worst here in England since 1703) but they weren't as wet.
Best wishes Martin

Webster defines a forum as the exchange of ideas. Obviously that only applies to the ones that post profusely on this forum. Perhaps it would be fortuitous to the Moderators to notice how many people that used to post regularly that no longer post.

Posting profusely is better than no posts at all.
Kindly don't concern yourself about how many posts a member makes.

Some like to speculate (profusely) about everything and anything. Others prefer to remain more down to earth and keep a watching brief. Support for Hayley (the bottom line) takes many worthwhile forms on this Forum. Paddy P.S. Maybe you need a concert ... urgently.
