I loved that dress, Martin. I'm not a dress person, but for the first time in my life I thought 'I wonder where she got that from?'.

Wow, Martin! You've really excelled yourself so far! I think that this is the dress Karsten said Hayley also wore at Gasworth Hall the other day.

Unusually for me, I approached this concert venue with some trepidation – an open air concert at a swimming pool in, according to the weather forecast, the pouring rain!! I thought I really must get a life! However, my fears were quickly dispelled because once you hear Hayley sing in a sound check, as the rain pours down, all interest in the weather quickly goes. I think I would go to the North Pole to hear Hayley perform (OK – give me some poetic licence! ). Access to inside the venue was not permitted until the gates opened at 7.15pm so if we wanted to hear the sound check then some other method was needed. If you can picture six adult males “lurking” in the bushes, holding umbrellas, on the other side of the wire fence then I hope you are not too distraught! I missed Hayley arriving thanks to the M25 traffic but having met up the Roger, Richard, Gordon, Karsten and Tom at the local pub next to the Pool we set off in search of somewhere to eat. Easier said than done. Hampton village is exactly what it says on the label; a suburban village with nowhere to eat that was open before 6.00pm. Mamma Mia! However, HWI doesn’t give up that easily and with the potential thought of rumbling stomachs throughout Hayley’s performance we set off again with Gordon as the team leader. Fortunately, after what seemed a marathon we came across a Fish and Chip shop which was about to open. Delicious, freshly cooked food was then enjoyed. On returning to the venue at 6.00pm we were ushered to the start of the queue where we met up with George and party. The rain became heavier but intermittent so fingers were crossed. Before time, at 7.00pm we were let in probably because the staff had sympathy for our plight. They let us in from the rain outside to the rain inside. Very thoughtful. But miraculously, the rain sooned stopped and we set up camp in the front row. I wandered about having been for a comfort break and bumped into Dave, Hayley's road manager. He said Hayley was in very good form tonight which pleased me immensely and wetted my appetite for things to come. Whilst talking to Dave I could see Raven in the entrance area having a quiet drink with the public walking past them oblivious to who they were (that was later totally dispelled). The concert itself was based upon the River of Dreams song list which I had experienced several times already but neverleless was a delight. Hayley always comments that she “reads” a different interpretation into the lyrics of “Both Sides Now” whenever she sings it and, similarly, I experience a different performance from Hayley everytime this same song list is followed. Just magical. Every concert has its highlights and we all agreed afterwards that “Hine Hine” and “Wuthering Heights” were just that last night. Mind you, the wind blowing away Tim’s sheet music one bar into the very first song of the evening was another highlight but for different reasons! Not to mention Hayley publicly stating that she didn’t mind photos being taken at all only minutes after the concert organiser informing the audience that ALL photography was banned. We made our way out at the end of another marvellous evening and the rain stayed off throughout. We had a few briefs words with Hayley before she departed for home and as the Hayley bus left the car park we gave a final wave goodbye until the next time (8th Sept). Thanks guys for the company last night and I wish good flights home to Tom and Karsten. Martin Here is a picture of the stage:

Thanks Martin! I could only see half the piano from there I was sitting, but I had a pretty good view over all. Though there were two children playing behind me in the second half, screaming their heads off and the parents did nothing to shut them up. I wonder if anyone caught that beautiful dress in its full splendour?

Good for her, now that's the Hayley we know! I wonder if that was Hayley's response to what happened at Gawsworth the other day, did she say it on stage? And how did she know about the disappointment it caused at Gawsworth? Thanks guys fior the concert reports and photos so far, I kept my fingers crossed for you, so the rain would stop! Cheers, Dave

Hi Dave,
What was very interesting was that before the concert the organiser said that there was to be no photography at the express wish of Miss Westenra. After the first song Hayley said there was no problem with the taking of photos in an open air venue whereas indoors flash could be distracting.Hayley then got a spontaneous round of applause. During the interval I happened to see Dave and I mentioned to him that Hayley's statement had gone down very well. He told me that photography had been banned the previous evening owing to a request from the owner of Gawsworth Hall.

Great photos and info. Thank you. I really need to know something that could set me flying again (to concerts, I mean). Did Hayley sing Never Say Goodbye again? I'd even trade my favourite pint to hear Hayley sing it live. Ta, Paddy

Second Half
RavenBolero The Godfather / Monti's Czardas HayleyI Know You By Heart Never Saw Blue Pokarekare Ana River Of Dreams Talk To Me (Hayley on piano) RavenUnidentified piece HayleySanta Lucia Both Sides Now Wuthering Heights EncoreHine E Hine Hayley was in terrific form, and I'm sure she enjoyed the unusual setting. The audience numbered about 400, which wasn't quite a full house, but it was a very appreciative crowd. Richard

Thanks so much for that, Richard. It's my favourite Hayley song. I asked her once would she sing it and she said 'Mmmmm. Yes, maybe sometime'. Looks like I should clip my wings so - as regards Hayley concerts. Or maybe just content myself with enjoying those witty jokes I sometimes hear in my travels. Like the one in Southend about that very special umbrella. Paddy
