diabolical * Function: adjective * Etymology: Middle English deabolik, from Middle French diabolique, from Late Latin diabolicus, from diabolus * Date: 14th century : of, relating to, or characteristic of the devil : devilish <a diabolical plot> a much misused word, often now used to refer to bad workmanship. I understood Bill's tounge in cheek use of the word when I read it. But I had to check it when I read your post, Martin, Some companies are using the slogans Devilishly Good or Hot to promote products. wicked is now being used to indicate something is good or brilliant by younger generations. every generation changes the use of various words, one might think that is cool. Random is a word that is undergoing a change of use by many people My sincerest apology. I meant in no way to indicate that her talent was "of the devil" Just the opposite. I have nothing but the utmost respect for Hayley and believe that she is a truly a gift from God. Perhaps "mischievous" would have been a better word. Bill EDIT: Also, you have to remember that English is a second language for us Yanks.

She attracts you with her voice, hooks you with her smile, and "closes the deal" with her heart. How diabolical is that!! Hi Bill That isn't diabolical at all! I couldn't have put it better myself (I myself not being that good with words!). Although I am a 'youngling' in terms of being aware of Hayley and her music (2 months), there is no measure to how she has affected my life. In the weeks leading up to my final exams (A2's - important exams!), I was, for want of a better phrase, a mess of nerves and stress. That, coupled with my relative isolation from others (not 'fitting in'), made me think 'Whats the point?' It was a definite low point for me (to some, this may sound like a sob story of exam nerves, some may say I am a wimp, but everyone acts differently in stressful circumstances). The way that I found Hayley's music is quite strange, because it initially started with some family friends from New Zealand showing us pictures of tourism attractions in the country. I was very interested and 'wowed' by what they were showing me, and decided to have a look at some compilations that people had done on Youtube of slideshows of New Zealand landmarks. One particular video I found had 'Let Me Lie' as a background song, and I found myself with my eyes closed, not caring for the pictures, but for the beautiful voice coming from my speakers! As soon as the song/slideshow ended, I looked at the video info and listened to the 30 second previews of Hayley's songs on Itunes. This made me immediately buy 5 CD's from Amazon - people may say "5CD's!?", but all I can say is 'whats the problem of buying a lot of something if you know that it is going to be good?' From then to now, I have found that I am more confident in my day to day activities, people say I smile a lot more, I laugh a lot more, I am more determined and more motivated to achieve my life goals, and I am owing near enough all of that to Hayley (a bit radical some may think!!). All I can say is - Thank you Hayley!!! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifBen

Hi Ben, Just as Hayley has helped you through exams, her music is providing me with some diversion from the Political Scene here in the US. It is getting really ugly here. When I listen to her music I completely forget about this mess and my usual good nature returns. Bill

Hi Bill
I like nothing better than to chill with Hayley on my CD player in the evenings- everything slows - her music is like an audio drug!
Ben
P.S - The political scene here isn't good either - Britain is on its knees!

Here are a few things I have done since Hayley has come into my life. Postpone a much needed shoulder twice in order to come to the U K for a Hayley concert. Spent endless hours listening and watching Hayley on you tube. Bought an Ipod and a new car stereo for my car so I couldl listen to Hayley without having to change the precious Hayley cds. Made five trips to the U K and Ireland in 15 months. Bought tickets for Dublin, Bath, and the Barbican for December 2009. And hopefully Limerick. Waited five days in Llandudno for a concert that had to be postponed due to Hayley's illness. But the payoff for all these things was well worth the effort. I met some very nice people that I consider to be my friends. I got to travel extensively in England and Ireland and fell in love with both countrys. But the main payoff was seeing Hayley in person in concert and meeting her. This alone was worth all the effort. If I lived in the U K I would never miss a concert of Hayleys.
Hayley has an attraction that is indescribable. She has an intangible attraction that affects me and her many fans in a unique way. I don't think there will ever be another Hayley. She is a gift from God.

Hi Larry,
It sounds like Hayley has had a big impact on you. Just think of the experiences you would have missed and the people you would have never met had it not been for her. How incredible.
Thanks for sharing that.

Hi Bill She attracts you with her voice, hooks you with her smile, and "closes the deal" with her heart. Summed up perfectly! As for why she has the effect that she does, I've given up trying to explain it and now just accept it. It has had a profound effect on my life; I feel I'm a better person because of her and I know many people I've met on this forum have been effected by her or had their lives changed dramatically through knowing her. That cannot be a coincidence. Best wishes Grant

You are also correct in that in cannot be a coincidence. To have this impact on so many people of all ages, while she is so young herself, is very perplexing to me. Oh, I was going to stop trying to figure it out, wasn't I. Thanks again, Bill

It's been a few weeks since the last reply on this topic, but I do want to give my opinion about this subject.
I only know Hayley's music for only a week maybe, but it swept me away. I needed to get used to one or two songs first, and later you start clicking on more and more video's on Youtube and start to love more and more songs. In only a few days time I learned to know 14 songs (few covers also) and more are pooring in. I even took her music with me to school! And while I was listening, I was more focust and relaxed. I did not listen much to this kind of music. Only just a few. A little Josh Groban and little of this and that... But listening to this magical voice just swept me off my feet. I try to make other people here listen to it as well. Maybe I can persuade my brother, he also has very large and different taste in music. I'm already surprised I never heard of Hayley before. Such lovely lady with such great voice must be already famous all over the world.

Hi Ross, Richard & Ben,
Yes I have been truely wowed...
I discovered her on Youtube by 'accident' while I was looking for a video of Wuthering Heights. This Kate Bush who sings it originally creeped me out, so then I saw Hayley's live version on the right side of the page...And then I found 'Who Painted the Moon Black' and it went slowely on and on...It keeps getting better and better I must say!
I was listening to the songs actually while I was showering earlier, and my father heard it and loved it as well. He asked me who she was and started whistle along with it...he's tone deaf so he was trying to sing along, but I can barely sing it and I don't want to loose my hearing. I did not expect that all to happen...but next is my brother to persuade...
Glad I got in touch with her music!
Sharon

Hello Sharon and a belated welcome to the forum from Central England. I see you've already discovered that we are a very friendly group by the number of welcomes you have already received and this is certainly the best place for all things Hayley. I hope you will enjoy your time with us. Best wishes Grant P.S. Good luck converting your brother into a Hayley fan. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

Hi Grant,
Yes this is indeed a very friendly group... Very different then I'm used to. I was once on a Dutch fan forum (not related to Hayley) and they were pretty different. People got irritated pretty quick.
But I know The English are very nice people...I've been to London in 2004 and it was a very great experience!
