Hi Cherany, We understand that Hayley's record company put some pressure on her to update her image as was reported in the Daily Telegraph. The assumption is that this was an attempt to sell more albums. It would appear that the majority of our members (and probably the majority of her loyal fans around the world) do not agree. I suspect, therefore, that most of us would not want any significant image shift. Roger They want her to update her image in which way, though? More revealing clothing, or just more casual clothing? I looked through the thread & see most people think she dresses just fine, but of those who support an image shift, I see some people talking about jeans, while others seem to imply she should show more skin. I'm really just confused about which direction the record company is pressuring her to go in. Jeans & tees? Sequin underwear as an outfit? Sequin jeans with underwear worn over? Do they want her to be more casual, or just sexier?

Hi Cherany, Unfortunately, we don't know exactly what they meant because they didn't elaborate beyond the general comment in the press article and we have been told no more. I suspect they requested a sexier image in the belief that it would attract a greater fanbase. Roger

That's so strange to hear, because I'm often surprised at the amount of cleavage she shows. (Not that I mind one way or the other; I see nothing indecent about it.) I guess they want her skirt hiked up, too? Eeek! I'm not for that at all. No dental floss outfits for Hayley!

Hello Cherany, it's good to hear from you again! I wouldn't worry too much about that article. I suspect the idea of Decca trying to tart up Hayley's image came from the Telegraph. They probably asked Hayley a few leading questions in a longer interview, then tried to turn one of her replies into a major sensation. They failed miserably, in my opinion. Happy New Year! Richard

Hello Peter.
Your post seems to be taking this thread off-topic into subjects that have already been discussed extensively elsewhere. Perhaps you could find a more appropriate thread to continue your discussion, so this thread can remain on topic, please.

They probably asked Hayley a few leading questions in a longer interview, then tried to turn one of her replies into a major sensation. They failed miserably, in my opinion. Well, at first I thought it was silly, just tabloid junk, until I saw someone saying Hayley's father sent a link to them, which seemed to imply there was some truth in this. (I hope I did not misunderstand that bit.) I know Hayley's not going to be running around stage in her undies any time soon ever, but like I said, I was curious as to how they thought she should be dressing & curious what some of the members here thought, particularly the ones who said she could do with a makeover. After thinking about it more & viewing some photos from her RoD release, some of her clothing does seem to be designed for someone a little older than her. But not because of the amount of fabric used. You can certainly cover up & still look hip. On the other hand, I've seen her wear plenty of cute, age-appropriate things. So, really, I just chalk it up to a difference in her personal taste & mine; I like some of her clothes & don't like some of her clothes. I certainly don't think she needs to wear things she doesn't like just to please others.

Going to give you my twopenneth on this as I have now seen Hayley live (with Jonathan and on her own) 5 or 6 times now and have felt that she needed some shall we say some added sophistication rather than 'tarting up' - that is an awful phrase but we all know s*x sells so it is a question of finding the right balance.
First time I saw Hayley in person was actually at the recording of Ready Steady Cook and to my surprise she was in skin tight black jeans and high black boots - looked really good and that outfit certainly had the desired effect on the chiefs as they were all flirting like mad - and I assumed this was 'more who she was' - have to say that the outfit worn on the AT show was awful though! I actually think something similar about Jonathan - have not been too impressed with UCJ's chosen suits for him - he almost always looks better in his 'own clothes'.
Back to the plot - the green dress worn at the Classical Brits was not really the best of colours on stage or screen it was just nice not stunning and JA's silver suit did nothing for him either - although they were different and were trying to make a statement which they did! And then I went to the iTunes Festival and that shorter, billowing sleeve silk dress did nothing for her at all. But the pink sheath dress at the CB launch was just great.
However the red dress at the Festival of Remembrance was wonderful my only thought there was she needed to do more with her hair - put it up in one of those flyaway topknots or sweep it to one side perhaps? When I first saw her in red it was at Sandhurst and she certainly stood out against the band/orchestra there so that was a winner all round - even if she did freeze. Her black and gold dress I have seen at the Don Black concert and that looked wonderful too.
I have also seen Natasha Marsh and Katherine Jenkins live several times and to be honest neither looked that good dress wise but their hair did stand out - so am not suggesting a colour change just maybe doing something a little more with the curls?
So my suggestion would be to get herself some signature colours perhaps - red, pink, black and gold seem good for her but with such a pale skin she needs some help to find the right colours for her on screen and stage rather than just in person possibly stick with primary colours as they stand out? Then go for very simple sheath shape dresses that show off her slim figure but from some good designers so they also have that added extra in cut, fabric and design.
Then if she is singing with Jonathan he should complement her possibly in black, white and red. Have seen him in DJ with dark red bow tie and cummerbund which was great.

Took me a while to find this picture from Mud House, Waipara, NZ - 17 Feb 2008 .. Thanks GraemeK I think this is a wonderful look, not pretentious or intimidating in any way, Just perfect I sometimes wonder why the ladies spend so much on clothes, when you can look this good without spending a fortune, This look appeals to me far more than a £10,000 dress and a load of ostentatious bling.

I'm not fond of the huge sunglasses, though, they practically take up her whole face. I've said before, that I like most of Hayley's outfits. Dilog, all of those outfits you mention I think were just fine. However, I'm not a big fan of that pink dress. I don't like the big bow on the front. Why does she need a signature color? She looks fine in most colors, so it's nice to see her wear a variety of colors. I don't think I've ever seen her wear purple, though. It's the only color I can think of that she's never worn. Yes, I'm counting the "coral" dress as orange. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

I will freely admit that I am of two minds about this, because there is merit to each point of view. Hayley has every right to not try to be something she is not - but by the same token, any fears on the part of her record company that a lot of people will find this boring are justifiable as well....
At some point, doesnt the "girl next door" become merely the "woman next door".....?

Hey Comet,
Hayley look fabulous. I'm so relieved that she is better. She is one gorgeous, talented girl. I can't wait to see her in Reading on the 8th of Feb.

Why does she need a signature color? She looks fine in most colors, so it's nice to see her wear a variety of colors. I guess I am coming at this from a branding perspective? I had my 'colours' done a few years ago and that was a salutary experience as I found that tones of colour can make a big difference - some of us know of lucky clothes and if we give that a bit more thought we know they are really good colours for us and they are not always what you expect! I was told not to wear black and white more brown and ivory which on reflection made a lot of sense. This exercise is what I am suggesting for Hayley She will obviously not win with all dresses as that is just not possible but if she defines a style for herself it will make it easier. The comment above about the 'Girl Next Door' is the real one - great for her when she was younger but now she needs a bit more sophistication and that can go in a number of ways but also depends where the music goes too. If she goes a more towards pop or folk type music then jeans would be fine but if towards more musical theatre and classical crossover then more formal attire will be necessary for performances. Di
