Hi everyone. I was tempted with the new chat thread to place this comment there but seeing this was the only thread a simple search produced I'm commenting here. We regularly refer to Classic fm (UK) but how many people actually know its background? I don't normally weight Wikipedia as an authority for anything really serious but for its links and as a general 'quick fix' it is adequate. Here is Classic fm's background which I perused by chance 'chuntering around', I'm in that sort of mood. Drawing its attention to you I will doubtless be flooded with such responses as, 'postscript's woken up', 'knew that years ago'! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classic_FM_(UK). Just sharing. Peter S.

Mike Oldfield's 'Music of the Spheres' has gone up a place to No.22 in this week's Classic FM Chart. All Angels' 'Into Paradise' has re-entered the chart at No.29, possibly as a result of the current promotion for their forthcoming third album 'Fly Away'. Faryl Smith has dropped three places to No.12, and Classic FM's 'Summer Guitar' is still at No.1 for the seventh consecutive week. Hello folks! It's a very interesting Classic FM Chart this week. Hayley's 'Pure' is a re-entry at No.21, and Mike Oldfield's 'Music of the Spheres' is the highest climber, up thirteen places to No.4. Jonathan Ansell's 'Tenor at the Movies' has also re-entered the chart at No.13. All Angels are back in the chart with two re-entries. Their self-titled debut album is at No.3, while 'Into Paradise' is at No.11. Faryl Smith has dropped fourteen places to No.26, and Classic FM's 'Summer Guitar' is still at No.1 for the ninth week. www.classicfm.co.uk/on-air/programmes/official-classic-fm-chart/weeks-top-30-29-august/Richard

Jonathan Ansell's 'Tenor at the Movies' has also re-entered the chart at No.13. Thank you Richard for the update, yes there were a phenomenal number of new entries! End of summer sales, methinks. There will be even more interesting news next week as Treasure (remember that, anyone? ) has re-entered the UK Classical Artist chart at... wait for it... number 2 I'm sure that will place it in the top 5 in the next Classic FM chart, the puzzle is... where is it in stock? Clearly one of the big chain stores or supermarkets has it on display at a sale price... but I haven't seen it anywhere yet and it doesn't seem to be HMV online or Amazon. Anyone? Seeing Pure re-enter the chart, I had assumed a bit of clever marketing by Decca by re-stocking somewhere in anticipation of the Rugby Cup Final but I was wrong. It's been some even cleverer marketing of... Treasure probably for the same reason (though yesterday will have had very little effect on the new chart). It's not often I say this but... well done to the Decca sales and marketing people for good timing! Dave

Hi Dave,
I saw both Pure Odyssey and ROD in our local Tesco Extra this weekend but I did not see Treasure. Perhaps they had all sold before I got there.

number 2 That's fantastic! I'll look out for it in ASDA tomorrow. Best wishes Grant

Hello Dave and everybody! I looked in two branches of HMV this morning, and the in-store price of 'Treasure' is £16. Curiously, Faryl Smith's album is on offer for only £7, but it's taken a nosedive in the charts. Richard

Hi Richard, What do you attribute Treasure's new found popularity to. Do you think it was the Wembley appearance or the NZ memorial appearance. If so it shows the power of the electronic medium.

Hi Larry, Treasure will have greatly increased its weekly sales and entered near the top of the classical chart again mainly because a supermarket chain (or two) were persuaded by Decca to stock it, after a very long period with no stock. I think the deal clincher would have been a low 'budget' price, exclusivity (at that price) coupled with Hayley's advertised appearance on National TV on a Saturday afternoon at the Rugby Cup Final. I can't be certain, but the TV appearance would have probably come too late to have a big effect on the total sales, only CDs sold between the end of the match (about 4:30pm) and 10pm when the supermarkets close on Saturday would count for that chart. It's probably not downloads or internet sales, otherwise more Hayley albums would have entered high in the chart too. Budget Hayley CDs (whenever they appear in UK supermarkets) always sell well for a few weeks. Cheers, Dave PS That's pretty well what Martin said... ten times more concisely than me!
