Hello Dave! HMV are selling the bonus CD edition of 'Pure' at £16. As I said earlier, Zavvi have both UK versions on sale at £7. Richard

Hello,
I've noticed the original version of Pure selling in a couple of Woolworths stores recently - I noticed it selling for the bargain price of £3 in the Scunthorpe store today (yet exactly the same version was selling for £16 in the HMV store around the corner!!)

Hi Mark (A)! I think if I saw Pure for £3, I might be tempted to buy a few. You never know when they may come in handy! Somehow I doubt that HMV will shift many if they are asking £16. That's how much it was in my local store - and that copy is still there! Unfortunately, my local Woolworths closed down before Hayley was born! Roger

Thanks Dave - I'm surprised to see 'Pure' doing so well after all these years. In fact, it looks as though it's going stronger everytime Hayley starts a tour!

Hi Dave, Excellent news, I am amazed, an album five years older, Shoulder to Shoulder with very recent albums! Is "Pure" in the route for album of the MILLENNIUM! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifIs this a good sign for the sales of "River of Dreams - The Very Best Of" CD? Let's hope so!

Mark (A) Thanks for the information Roger and Richard... and even more thanks to Mark - you seem to have solved the "problem". I visited my nearest Tesco and Sainsburys superstores megastores this evening and neither had anything "Hayley" in stock so my next port of call would have been Woolworths and WH Smiths tomorrow. But now, I can relax - all questions answered, job done so thanks! So we now have confirmation that this week's no. 3 in the Classical Artist chart is a budget priced original version of Pure... and I can update my Hayley charts database. If the Special Edition also starts to sell in large numbers, it will enter the chart separately. I've thought for a long time that if Hayley is in the High Street shops and Supermarkets with old CDs at budget prices (as Katherine Jenkins always is), she will always be in the chart. Paolo, I can't yet predict how well the full priced River of Dreams will do because Hayley has never released a "Greatest Hits" album before in the UK and this one covers a much shorter time span and far fewer tracks than, say, Russell Watson's top selling Greatest Hits album Cheers, Dave

Hello again Dave! I wouldn't be surprised to see 'Odyssey' and 'Treasure' back in the charts soon because HMV have both albums in their current 'Two for £10' promotion. You can buy one for £7. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifRichard

Hello folks! Hayley's 'Pure' is the highest climber in this week's Classic FM Chart, having jumped twelve places to No.5. Mark Forrest played 'In Trutina'. Will Martin has slipped to No.2 with 'A New World', and Bryn Terfel is back at No.1 with 'First Love - Songs from the British Isles'. www.classicfm.co.uk/Article.asp?id=251563Richard

Hayleyo Richard Hayley's 'Pure' is the highest climber in this week's Classic FM Chart, having jumped twelve places to No.5. This is amazing! When is this album going to stop selling? What's causing the renewed interest do you think? Is it the album; the tour; what? Whatever, it's good news for Hayley! Best wishes Grant

Hi Grant, we discussed it higher up the page in this thread and my conclusion following Mark A's post here: hwi.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=chartnews&action=display&thread=3089&page=73#80562 is that it's because it is on sale in a high street shop (Woolworths) for the first time in ages, and at a bargain price. Of course, the reason why it's on sale there now, is probably because Decca have done a deal with them due to the tour and imminent R oD album release. Thanks for the chart info, Richard! Cheers, Dave

Dave would know better than I, but objectively it doesnt take that many sales -at least compared to the mainstream charts. I am not famiiar enough with the UK classical charts to say much more than something on the order of 500-1000 sales would probably cause a pretty sharp rise.
Pure is an outstanding album - and while the demand for it is never again likely going to be heavy, there will always be some demand
Also, I have a question for you Dave. One thing that has always puzzled me is why, while there is an obvious very high correlation between the placement of an album on say the US classical crossover charts and its position on the pop chart, the correlation isnt always 100%. Not that this happens very often.... Is this the result of a mistake on the part of the websites I am looking at - for example updating the date of a chart but still using last weeks list, or is there another factor involved here occasionally?

Hi Grant, I think Jon's about right with the sales guesstimate, from the limited information i have this week it is between 200 and 800, probably a bit closer to the latter and I am estimating 550.
Jon, I'm not familiar with exactly how Soundscan produce their weekly sales estimates on which all the charts are based. However, it is probably similar to the method used by the Official Charts Company in the UK.
In the past I have occasionally seen leaked sales details for the main album chart and the classical chart and when an album was in both (usually the top few of the classical chart), the two sales estimates were usually different. Not by enough to produce different ranking order - but in theory this could happen if the sales of two classical albums were close enough.
I think when they multiply up the sales of the shops sampled, to get the final sales estimates, the OCC use different formulae/weightings for the two charts, probably to improve accuracy in the genre chart which has smaller sales and a poorer distribution of CDs. So yes, if two UK classical albums are very close in sales, this could in theory lead to the sort of anomaly you have noticed in the US, and the reasons may well be similar.
Is that what you meant?
Dave
