Hayley's current chart positions Friday 4th March 2005. Updated - Notes (Amazon)
All charts except Japan cover CD sales ending Saturday last week. Japan is updated to the end of December. Blue entries - In latest chart. Red entries - Out of latest chart.

US Classical Crossover chart: Top is still Josh Groban. UK Top of all the classical charts again is Katherine Jenkins. Her 19 weeks at no. 1 in the Classical Artist chart, and total weeks in the main top 75, means she is creeping ever closer to Hayley's 26 weeks (in both cases) ... but is still a long way behind in sales. Amazon Updates Japan: The movie "Lorelei" is premiered today and it's already pushing Hayley's latest CDs up the charts: Lullaby single: up from about 10,000 a few days ago, to no. 692. Pure (SE): up to 284. Amazing Grace: still around the 1,000 mark. UK: Pure, up to 250 (6th classical) Germany: Pure, 765 (Hayley's over there today) US: Pure, 1138 (slipping).

Sunday charts update - interesting weekend in the UK and in Japan. Updated Monday - sales info from Music Week.New UK Classical Artist chart: 1 (RE) Aled Jones - Aled 2 ( 1) Katherine Jenkins - Second Nature 3 (NE) Robert Meadmore - After A Dream 4 ( 2) Sixteen/Christophers - Renaissance 5 ( 3) Karl Jenkins - The Armed Man - A Mass For Peace 6 ( 4) Katherine Jenkins - Premiere 7 ( 8) Hayley Westenra - Pure 8 (11) Aled Jones - Higher 9 ( 7) Amici Forever - The Opera Band 10 (14) Ludovico Einaudi - Una Mattina So Hayley's up again but look at the no. 1... a re-entry from nowhere of "Aled" (new Special Edition) and this in spite of Katherine shooting up the POP chart from 67 to 34 today... Katherine selling about 12,000 copies in the week. Aled entered at no. 33, the closest possible margin to knock her off the classical top. Unfortunately, Katherine's new single failed to enter the singles Top 75 chart again today, after narrowlly missing out (no. 76) last week. Speaking of the UK pop charts, the top two albums have both narrowly missed out on being allowed in the classical chart... although they are classical crossover, they crossed-over too much! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif IL DIVO shot back up to no. 2 but G4 (runners-up in X-Factor) have crashed in at no. 1, selling 245,000 copies, three times more than IL DIV0. This is an excellent total for any no. 1 and would have taken it to the top of the latest American album chart. The top of the UK pop chart looks quite unreal at the moment... great stuff! 1 G4-G4 2 IL DIVO - IL DIVO 3 Tony Christie - Definitive Collection 4 The Carpenters - Gold - Greatest Hits So, Classical Crossover boybands (all professionally trained singers) rule the UK charts - and it can't be bad for Hayley as it may encourage more UK radio and TV stations to play crossover music.Turning to Japan, the re-release of "Pure" and premiere of "Lorelei" has sent Hayley shooting up the Amazon Japan chart this weekend, Pure reached no. 106 yesterday which is its highest for many months. Amazon.co.jp current positions: 151 - Pure 312 - Amazing Grace 397 - Wiegenlied (Lullaby) All of which are *excellent* for foreign artists in Japan. I won't know how this translates into the official charts though for a week or two. Wow, interesting day!

Amazon Updates Japan: Lullaby single: up from 692 last week to 204 Amazing Grace: up from around the 1,000 mark to 91 As I am writing this, Pure is up from 284 to number 8 (EIGHT) in the main Amazon Japan CD chart. Oh, I've just discovered that Hayley was on Japanese TV on March 11th - see "Hayley in the Media". That (and Lorelei) explains it! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif US Classical Crossover chart: Top is still Josh Groban. UK Aled Jones rockets to the top of the UK classical charts with a re-release of his old album "Aled", deposing Katherine Jenkins to no. 2 by a whisker.

Japan: Wiegenlied, Amazing Grace and Pure are all in the Japan charts this week, after Wiegenlied entered at no. 1 (International chart) last week. I was glad to be able to mention this to Hayley herself last week at ClassicAlive in London US Classical Crossover chart: Top is Josh Groban, followed by Andrea Bocelli, Ronan Tynan and Mario Frangoulis. UK The Classic FM chart was never published this week (although it was certainly compiled) and they only played the top 10 in the chart show, due to Easter. Classical Artist chart was then published in error in the following week. Hayley's previous week's positionn was not announced on the next week's actual chart show so the position this week can only be estimated (Likely between 18 and 21, we will say 20). Edit: pos. 20 was later confirmed. On the actual chart show, Music for Babies enters at no. 1, Aled is 2., Katherine (2nd Nature) is 3.

Hayley's current chart positions Friday 8th April 2005. Updated Saturday: Japan & Notes All charts (unless said otherwise) cover CD sales ending last weekend. Blue entries - In latest chart. Red entries - Out of latest chart.

Singles t10 3 ( 2) 1 4 Updated.[/PRE] Notes US Classical Crossover chart: Pure has now been in the chart continously for a year. Not bad! UK Pure finally drops out of the Classical Artist chart after 80 consecutive weeks. It stays in the Classic FM chart though, down to no. 40. Music for Babies remains at no. 1, Katherine's Second Nature is at 2, Aled at 3. DVDs: Hayley's DVD isn't listed at Amazon UK but Merchant of Venice is currently the no. 5 pre-release DVD and no. 16 overall... this won't do Hayley's album and DVD sales any harm at all next week. Japan: will be updated at the weekend. Portugal, Sweden: Following the recent release of Pure, there is no sign (to date) of it entering the main album charts there (top 50/60). I have no information about classical chart performance there (if any).

Hayley's current chart positions Friday 15th April 2005. Updated Saturday - Japan All charts (unless said otherwise) cover CD sales ending last weekend. Blue entries - In latest chart. Red entries - Out of latest chart.

Singles t10 4 ( 3) 1 5 Updated![/PRE] Notes US Classical Crossover chart: Pure has been creeping up the chart for the last 3 weeks! UK Classical Artist Chart: Pure is back!. Well, it isn't in the published chart but I have exactly calculated its position, using the Classic FM Chart and applying the official Artist Chart rules to remove compilations and sound tracks (I hope that's not cheating! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif ) At Classic FM, Music for Babies remains at no. 1, Katherine remains at 2; Karl Jenkins' new "Requiem" is up to 3 and he's also at 5 with The Armed Man. He's unbelieveably popular for (these days) a classical composer. DVDs: I can only find Hayley's DVD in one chart so far (it isn't sold at Amazon UK) and that's HMV's "Music DVD" list where it's at 29 (out of 400) in the New Releases section, covering the last 6 weeks. Merchant of Venice is currently the no. 9 overall DVD at Amazon and that should help Hayley next week. Japan: Now updated. Portugal, Sweden: There still seems to be no "chart action" for Hayley over there.

UK: Hayley's DVD is not in the new official Music DVD Top 30. The only chart I see it in is HMV's list of New Releases (last 6 weeks) where it's no. 30 today. I assume this is because a) supplies are very limited outside Central London and b) Decca seem to have done NO promotion whatsoever to support the launch (apart from their original e-card to fans, a few weeks ago); and c) Hayley has been very low-profile this year in the UK, except to us hard-bitten fans. Unless and until one of these things changes, I can't see much happening with the DVD. The question is... why? Why has the DVD been kept so "secret" from the general public? I can hazard a few guesses based on a few things I've noticed: a) Decca may have changed the DVD format or region coding after already producing limited numbers of the DVD as NTSC/Region 0, which they will sell off before reintroducing it in PAL or Region 2 format, with more publicity and in greater numbers? Or there could be another technical issue... b) The DVD is expected to sell in such small numbers that advertising it would not be worthwhile? Music DVDs usually sell not much more than 10% of an artist's album sales. c) There is some kind of agreement with PBS not to promote it at the moment? d) The main promotional effort will come later in the year when promotion has already started for Hayley's new CD. The theory would be that when buying the new CD, quite a few people would naturally buy the DVD as well and that it would be better to concentrate all the promotional effort for that time. Let's hope that Decca *do* have a strategy here and that *something* will happen to promote the DVD later on...

Hello again Dave! I haven't seen any publicity for Hayley's DVD yet either. I did see a copy of it in HMV at Staines this morning, one of their smaller branches. I'll have another look in the big stores in Central London later this week to see if I can assess how sales are going. Bye for now, Richard

Singles t10 3 ( 3) 1 6 Now updated.[/PRE] Notes US Classical Crossover chart: Pure holds well at no. 6; Katherine Jenkins has entered at no. 15 with "La Diva" - this apparently is the same as "Second Nature" but with 3 tracks fewer than the UK version. Amazon.com: Il Divo has been top of the sales rankings there for several days now, in its release week. It will be interesting to see if the Simon Cowell magic works as well in the US as the UK (it may do) and if it's allowed into the Crossover chart (it could be). UK Classical Artist Chart: I have again calculated its position from the Classic FM Chart, applying the official Artist Chart rules to remove compilations and sound tracks. This is surprisingly easy to do, and it works! At Classic FM, the top 10 is currently unknown as they published positions 11 to 20 where the top 10 should be, and left last week's 11 to 20 untouched. Doh! DVDs: Update Saturday: Hayley's DVD now appears in the DVD - Music - Specialist section at HMV UK and is at no. 3 (out of 36 in the section). This is progress! I'd love to know why the "soft launch" with no promotion, very strange. Let's see what NZ can do in their next week's chart (the DVD's released this week)Portugal, Sweden: Nothing over there, so far.
