Hi All, I have just visited www.ebay.com and noticed that there is a rather unusual "Hayley item" for sale. It is a violin which has been autographed by Hayley (!) along with Hayley's written words on it: "Who Painted the Moon Black" (!) in dark blue marker I guess we haven't seen too many Hayley autographed violins so far. I had to check to see if it was a "Strad". Don't think so! The violin is located in Boston, MA, USA. Very intriguing huh? Have a look for yourself hereAs proof of authenticity the following picture of Hayley signing the violin was also provided by the seller, "JG Autographs". I'm going to keep watching to see how much interest this attracts Regards, Andrew

Hmmm! This looks fishy to me. I think this is a commercial organisation trying to use Hayley's good reputation for their own profit. Does anybody else think the same? Best Wishes, Richard

Hi Richard, Yes... I agree with you! If Hayley signed a violin for me like that, I would NEVER part with it! It should fall into someone's hands who really appreciates it! I'm almost tempted... but would rather give Hayley the monetary value in a UNICEF donation... Hmm Regards, Andrew i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

Very interesting Andrew. Both regarding price but also the exact story behind it. She may have signed it for charitable purposes. However, is this someone taking commercial advantage of her. Had she been aware they intended to sell so soon?

Hi All, I have just sent a message to the sellers of this violin, enquiring who the manufacturers of this instrument are. To me the violin looks as though it may be Chinese, possibly a "Skylark" model, in which case this would be a very basic, mass produced instrument- a "low budget" violin if you like. The violin I learned to play on in the early 1980's was a "Skylark" (three quarter sized violin) and I didn't like it at all! Some people might argue that the instrument would be fine for starting off with, but some people might be put off playing the violin for life by it! The violin was sold with a very cheap bow and some very VERY cheap rosin (which looked like dried honey!) and a very basic carrying case, all at a budget price. I know a good musician "never blames his instrument" but honestly I can remember the very scrunchy "sticky" sounds the bow used to make whilst I was trying to produce a smooth sweet sound! It was quite frustrating to say the very least! The case in the picture here is not the standard cheap "Skylark" case, so perhaps I am completely wrong about the manufacturer. My aim is to find out though! Regards, Andrew

A very interesting insight into you there Andrew. Thank you for sharing your background as a violinist. It will be most interesting to learn the manufacturer. Any chance of also knowing the reason for the sale? A not unreasonable question I would have thought. Perhaps 'excuses' will out if the reason IS a quick buck on Hayley's signature. I suppose it would have been advertised as such had it been for charity, which would be a legitimate reason for asking for her signature.

[/size] Hi All,
I received a reply from the sellers of the Hayley autographed violin via Email, in response to my question:
"Please could you confirm the reason for selling such a wonderful item? I would also be very interested to find out who the manufacturer of the instrument is. Please can you help? Many thanks."Richard- I guess you were quite right! The violin could very well be a "Skylark" after all too!
Regards,
Andrew

Thanks for that, Andrew! I suppose it's like these signed photographs and replica gold discs that you can buy in specialist shops at ridiculously high prices. Some people will pay a lot of money for an autograph! I bet a feathered skylark sounds much sweeter than that violin, or perhaps I should call it a fiddle! Best Wishes, Richard

Best Wishes, Richard Hi Richard, To me the name "Skylark" was a very misleading name for such an instrument! "Lark" yes... "Skylark" no! What a fiddle! Who wants to hear 'The Lark Ascending'? Exit stage left! Andrew

I noticed this item some time ago. At that time I didn't really think about all of the points that were brought up here.
In regards to another strange item being for sale, a while ago there was a skirt that was autographed by Hayley on trademe.co.nz (I'm not sure if it was authentic). I thought that this one was strange; I don't remember a whole lot about the skirt (I don't think the style directly related to New Zealand.) I was having trouble finding a connection between Hayley and the skirt and why someone would have gotten this item autographed (besides maybe making a profit.)
