Here is a new thread for "Westenra of Christchurch NZ" tartan ties. The woven wool tie which I wore on the occasion of Hayley's performance at Edinburgh Castle this year (July 20th) is shown below:

I will confirm the truth of the matter with regard to the "Westenra of Christchurch NZ" tartan here...

As the tartan designer and copyright owner, my intention was for the "Westenra of Christchurch NZ" tartan to serve as a commemorative design and a tribute to Hayley and her family. The tartan design has been officially registered by the 'Scottish Tartans Authority' on the "International Tartan Index". I registered the tartan for "Resticted Use" which essentially means that anybody wishing to order tartan products with this design, has to request permission from me first unless of course they happen to be members of the Westenra family... I am more than willing to grant permission to any members of 'HWI' who wish to order tartan products in the "Westenra of Christchurch NZ" design, since the tartan should be used as far as possible to support and promote Hayley, her family and Hayley's outstanding work! My intention was that the "Westenra of Christchurch NZ" tartan should be worn by individuals who are genuinely proud of Hayley and appreciate her outstanding work, as opposed to individuals choosing the tartan on the merits of liking the colours or design of the tartan.

So the "Westenra of Christchurch NZ" tartan may indeed be worn with pride by any members of 'HWI' . The Scottish Tartans Authority will inform me if anybody requests to use the design, but indeed all members of 'HWI' are most welcome to order "Westenra of Christchurch NZ" tartan products!

Ties can be produced in woven wool or on printed silk. I am willing to take orders for tartan ties on behalf of interested 'HWI' members, but I require a minimum request of 50 ties before I can place an order with the producers. I expect to receive a quotation for the cost of producing silk ties very shortly. Payment is also required in advance of placing an order for the ties. Please send me a PM if you would like me to provide you with these details.

Hi All,

This morning I received a sample tartan silk tie through the mail from the producers. I'm absolutely delighted with the quality of the tie. Although the sample tie is not produced from the "Westenra of Christchurch NZ" tartan, I will post up some photographs of the tie in order that you might be able to appreciate the high quality and fine detail produced in the printed silk. The silk has a beautiful soft smooth texture too!

I'm delighted to be able to tell you that there is some GOOD NEWS! with regard to "Westenra of Christchurch NZ" tartan silk ties! We now have sufficient demand for the ties to be mass produced! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

Dear All,

Please view the images below of the sample silk tie which I have just photographed. I requested the producers of the tartan silk ties to send me a sample silk tie (produced in a random tartan) in order that I might inspect the quality and detail of the printed silk. I'm very pleased with the finish which is far superior to that of the woven woollen tie which I currently have.

Tomorrow I will be placing an order for 50 silk ties to be produced in the "Westenra of Christchurch NZ" tartan. The ties should be ready within 8-10 weeks.

Hi All,

I thought it was about time to give you a progress update on the "Westenra of Christchurch NZ" tartan silk ties which are currently on the production line...

The following image was scanned from a design printed on paper (the quality or accuracy of the colours are not particularly good I'm afraid, as a bubble jet printer was used and the paper was folded in the middle when it was sent to me in the mail- as you can see!) The tie producers have developed a computer generated image of the design which will be used to produce the tartan silk ties. The finished ties will actually be wider- approx. 95mm at the widest point, as opposed to the 67mm as shown on this print. The final printed tartan image will look much sharper on the silk too- with each stitch showing in a bright colour against a very black background. My first order for 50 silk ties is due to be produced this week. I will keep you up to date with progress, as I'm sure that those of you who have ordered a tie will be keen to have it ASAP! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

I was wondering how you order the tie, I presume its on the HWI shop link is it ? If I was to order one now, would I be likley to receive it by the 9th December do you know ?

I guess that means that I have to wear a suit for the concert in order to match the tie !

I think (HOPE!) Andrew that those of us who have ordered a tie understand the tremendous amount of work involved--mundane co-ordination as well as some excitement as design roughs come through, that we are in no way pressing you timewise!

By the by--I missed a point on your earlier enquiry about a laser printer. I missed the word 'laser'. My A2 its an ink-jet, but very faithful to the scanning.

Hi Folks,

Here it is... the long awaited "Westenra of Christchurch NZ" tartan tie in printed silk!

I hesitated in terms of posting up this photograph due to the fact that the light blue colour that you see here is not accurate at all! In reality the light blue is actually a much darker royal blue. I took several more photographs (without the flash) but have come to the conclusion that digital cameras (well at least mine!) don't always reproduce an accurate reflection of colours...

If you've ordered a tie you should have it very soon!

Wear the Westenra colours to support Hayley (and her family) with pride!

If anybody else would like to order a tie please let me know...
