If you could choose your top 10 favourite music songs what would they be? Mine would have to be 1-10 (1 being higest) not Haylyes, other artists cause if Hayleys where here, it be all 1-10 of Hayleys music:
1 -Fields of Athenrye 2 - Oh Mai Babbino Caro 3 - Our Shangrali-La (Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris) 4 - I Dug up a diamond (Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris) excellent live 5 - Falling Down (on Sweet Home Alabama soundtrack) - Avril lavigne 6 - I wish I knew how it would feel to be free 7 - Annies Song - John Denver 8 - Stonehaven Sunset - John Denver 9 - The Great Beyond - R.E.M 10 - Sunshine on my shoulder - John Denver or maybe Falling into History (b-side) - Avril lavigne
That was a hard choice since I have a huge music collection. Whats yours?

Have to say, I have loads of John Denver favourites and my favourites of his are;
Calypso Perhaps Love Stonehaven Sunset (love lyrics) Windsong Take Me Home Country Roads Annies Song Back Home Again Aspen Glow Rhymes and Reasons Today Thanks To You A Little Further North Sunshine On My Shoulders (Better version is on the "very best of" John Dnver) Ravens Child Leaving on a Jet Plane (Anyone heard John Denver and Johnny Cash doing this? Cashes lower voice makes it sound off and bad sort off.)
If John where still alive and were still going, I think John and Hayley would have made a good duet. John makes beauitful lyrics in songs and some very good ones, as does Hayley.

Hi davemcc,
If I listed my favourite John Denver songs, I could be here until midnight (and it's only 9am!). He often gets a mention on this forum which indicates he is still very popular. For me, he is the best singer/songwriter ever.

Got "John Denver remembered" DVD and its very good. One more I remembered "This old Guitar" and "Rocky Mountain High" Pitty how he died On October 12, 1997, and when the Long-EZ aircraft he was piloting crashed just off the coast of California at Pacific Grove and killed him.

Hi Dave, I enjoy the folk guitar style of John Denver too... I have a guitar music book with the sheet music for pieces such as 'This Old Guitar'; 'Annie's Song'; 'Leaving On a Jet Plane'; 'Sweet Surrender' and 'Poems, Prayers and Promises'... Great stuff... I was driving home from Stafford after work when the news came on at 5 O'clock that John had died in a plane crash. It came as a great shock and was probably lucky that I was virtually stationary in a queue of traffic at the time. I have pretty much all of his early work either on casette or vinyl. Best wishes Grant

Dave, much as I would like to see a John Denver sub-board, it isn't really the kind of music we tend to cover here (classical, crossover and Celtic). We are also aware that the forum is now busier than ever, and we don't want to encourage too many off topic threads by creating more sub-boards in Other Music. Andrew, it sounds as though we have the same JD songbook! Actually, I have two! I also have 23 original vinyl records of his... but nothing to play them on. Roger

Suppose your right Rodger. This site is very busy. Maybe a sub board is not the answer. Too many sub boards on other music would not make this a "Hayley Westenra" forum anymore would it?
23 vinyl records? thats must be good, unless you can play them.

Roger Hi Roger and Dave, Roger perhaps you should buy a dansette or another type of gramophone record player- I bet you would end up feeling all nostalgic! ... My parents still have an old record player in their attic which they bought in 1968- the year they got married. I won't let them get rid of it! I tell them just to hang onto it- even though it tends to reside in their attic! It's in perfect condition even after all the hours my sister and I used to play records on it in the mid/ late 1970s when we were growing up! I think there are still a few replacement cartridges which were never used! These days though I tend to play CDs most of the time. I have a fairly extensive vinyl collection too though. I've been building up my hi-fi system since 1992! It comprises of "separates" i.e. independent units for CD player, tape deck, tuner, amplifier and turntable. My Hi-fi system has been custom built to suit my taste... A combination of 'Denon'; 'Technics' and 'Bose' units... I also bought a 'Bose' "Acoustimass" system a couple of years ago which has a multi- speaker system and it really is the "bee's knees"... Back onto the topic of John Denver.... I remember John Denver played a gig in the Edinburgh Usher Hall in 1996. That was probably the last time he played in Scotland Andrew

My first tape recorder was a "Dansette Consort" reel to reel purchased about 1962/63. It cost something like £17 9s 6d!! Can't remember what the sound quality was like back then but my friends and I had a lot of fun taping our favourite songs off the various radio stations.
Best wishes Grant

Reply #8. I agree with Roger. I think we must be wary of over-diversification. There is nothing stopping us linking to someone wanting to create a board--if one does not already exist but even that raises a fundamental question. We are here for Hayley.
From Hayley derives a lot of offshoots. While interaction with members leads to further diversification and is of interest because we seem to have an interest in each other, thus strengthening our bonds of friendship, I think we should discipline ourselves to Hayley and Hayley connections.
Were Hayley to suddenly pick up the guitar... then we could review but in the same way I raised the question, with such an increase in numbers and activity did we need to review our structure in preparation for possible further increases in traffic, so I think we need to be alert to not distracting from our main purpose and inadvertently watering that main purpose down.
Peter S.
