From icWales...
Primary school children's choir stole the show at St David's
LAST Saturday evening my wife and I attended Cardiff's St David's Hall.
Top of the bill was Hayley Westenra, then there were the 500 members of no less than nine male voice choirs, a very accomplished orchestra, and last, but by no means least, the choir of the pupils of Llanishen Fach Primary School, Cardiff. It was an evening to remember, for all the right reasons.
Miss Westenra sang beautifully, and very quickly built up a rapport with her audience.
Next, the male voice choirs. Nine choirs, who only got to sing together for the first time at 1pm that afternoon, sang as one magnificently. Then the icing on the cake: the young pupils of Llanishen Fach Primary School.
Their singing made it obvious they were enjoying themselves, and they certainly passed on that enjoyment to their audience. They were so good that at the end of their third and final appearance on stage, a standing ovation was led, significantly, by the members of the male voice choirs, followed very quickly by an equally appreciative audience.

Typical Hayley. Peter

Well done, Roger. A superb report. You only left out the 21-gun salute they gave Hayley--now that's foxed you, hasn't it?
I'll follow through shortly with the prelims! Peter

Hi All, I have found an article by Heather Hill a support teacher at Llanishen Fach Primary School regarding her Choir singing with Hayley on 17th June. Every One A Star!On June 17th, the school choir were privileged to take part in a wonderful concert in St. David’s Hall. Cardiff Arms Park Male Choir were celebrating their fortieth anniversary in grand style with 8 other male choirs and the delightful New Zealand born singing star, Hayley Westenra. The programme said it promised to be ‘a night full of musical entertainment of the highest quality’ and that’s just what it was. The thrill our young choristers felt as they followed the haunting tones of a bagpipe on to the stage to sing ‘Amazing Grace’ with Hayley was only matched by the number of hankies which were whipped out of mums’ handbags! Our boys and girls then performed a set of 6 songs – each sung to perfection. A cheery wave to family and friends in the audience (perfectly choreographed of course!) and it was then back to our seats to wait for the finale. And what a finale it proved to be. Hayley, ourselves and the wonderful sound of 500 male voices – all in perfect harmony. It was a night never to be forgotten. Thanks must go to Vic Pearce and the Cardiff Arms Park Male Choir for arranging such a wonderful event and inviting us to be part of this very special night, and to the stalwart Llanishen Fach staff members for their backstage support in ensuring that the night went without a hitch. Our boys and girls were a credit to our school, not only for their performance but for their superb behaviour and for the way they looked - they GLEAMED! I was so proud of each and every one of them and I know I will not forget the night. Well done everyone!
