I doubt if they will show Hayley for more than a few seconds. The programme will basically cover Last Night of the Proms from the Royal Albert Hall in London. During the interval they will look around the regions and just show a very short clip from each and that is likely to be little more than crowd scenes. That has been the pattern in recent years, anyway. I will be watching just in case. Roger

Hi All,
This is what is says regarding the Last night Of The Proms on the BBC website:-
BBC Proms in the Park is broadcast live across BBC Radio and Television. Radio 2 broadcasts live coverage from Hyde Park, and BBC Radio Wales, Scotland, Ulster and GMR will broadcast their local events. Televised highlights of all five Proms in the Park will be shown as part of BBC1 and BBC2's live coverage of the Last Night of the Proms and the second half of the BBC Family Prom in the Park will broadcast live on BBC Two.
Sounds a bit complicated to me?? Probably will have to wait a bit closer to the event to see the final tv coverage schedule but as Roger said I dont think they will show much coverage of the Manchester event.
Also Katherine Jenkins is appearing at the Swansea event that night with Aled jones hosting,so fingers crossed we might see they aswell.
My recorder will on just in case.

Hi Emmett, I think that very nearly confirms my worst fears! The "BBC Family Prom in the Park" is the event to be held in Hyde Park, London on Sunday 11th September, so that doesn't help us. For as long as I can remember, the main event, "The Last Night of the Proms" from the Albert Hall, has been broadcast as two separate programmes. Part 1 is always shown on BBC2 (which still cannot be received in some very remote parts of the UK), and Part 2 is shown on BBC1 (which can be received virtually everywhere). There is an assumption that Part 2 is what the greater viewing audience wishes to see - more so, perhaps, that Part 1. Outside broadcast cameras cover the other events around the country (of which there seem to be more and more each year). Highlights of these are screened during the interval. But of course, they can only be highlights of Part 1 of each event (because the second halves haven't taken place yet!). I can't remember the typical length of the interval but I doubt that more than a minute or two of each outside event will be screened. I will set my video too but I think we will be extrememely fortunate to see more than a few seconds of Hayley. I won't even be near a television on the night - I will sitting in a park in Manchester! Roger

Hi folks, As I understand it, there is an event in each of the main tv regions. Each of these events will be broadcast on tv in those regions (regional programming) and then the whole thing will come together for the grand finale, which will be shown on the giant screens that will be in place. So, the Manchester part of it will be seen in the North West only. This may not sound very good but, we should remember that the north west tv region is a big area and, referring only to one part of that, the Merseyside Domicile Area has a population roughly equal to a quarter of the population of the UK as a whole - approx 14.5 million. About 1.25 to 1.5 million people in the north west alone will probably be watching that night. That's pretty good going. Keith.

The BBC/proms website now includes this: Digital TV viewers can press the red button to access an interactive TV service for the Last Night of the Proms on BBC2 and BBC1. The interactive service will enable digital TV viewers to access programme notes for the concert in the Royal Albert Hall and live footage from Proms in the Park concerts. This probably means that Sky Digital viewers can press their interactive red button and watch ALL the regional concerts - much as was done with Live Aid, where you could watch any of the main concerts in full. I don't know if this works on cable TV and I couldn't find anything that confirmed that entire concerts would be broadcast on regional TV - only radio. But I hope they do - as Keith mentioned. Now, I can receive interactive Sky TV so I should be able to record it... but only if I stay at home!!! I don't think you can leave the system set on interactive for half a day or a day beforehand, because they won't have set up the relevant menus and buttons that early. Annoying! However, any Sky viewer from anywhere in the Country can receive all the BBC regional programmes (channels 941 to 962) so I will be able to record that, just in case it's on! Cheers, Dave

Hi Lothar,
I got my ticket yesterday too.
All that came with it was a photocopy sheet with information of how to get there and also the starting times.
Nothing mentioned about the music though. We will probably find out on the day.

www.bbcmusicmagazine.com/competitions.aspTo celebrate 10 years of BBC Proms in the Park, BBC Music Magazine has two pairs of tickets to give away to each of the five venues in London, Belfast, Glasgow, Swansea and Manchester BBC Proms in the Park is a great opportunity to enjoy a picnic, listen to music under the stars and to take part in the famous Last Night of the Proms. This year all BBC Orchestras take part in the Last Night for the first time as the five parks link up to the Royal Albert Hall for the grand finale, and Henry Wood's original bugle calls are reinstated to the Fantasia on British Sea Songs and will be heard calling from park to park. Hear the likes of Andrea Bocelli, Simply Red and Nicola Benedetti in London, Evelyn Glennie, Denise Leigh and Jane Gilchrist in Belfast, Dougie McLean and Ailish Tynan in Glasgow, Aled Jones and Katherine Jenkins in Swansea and Hayley Westenra and David Childs in Manchester. For more information on tickets to all the events and the BBC Family Prom in the Park visit www.bbc.co.uk/promsFor the chance to WIN tickets to BBC Proms in the Park simply answer the following question: In which year did the Proms in the Park begin? Thanks for that article Kimberly, although I won't be entering the competition as I already have my tickets. However, it told me a lot I didn't know! David Childs, who will perform as well as Hayley, is a Euphonium soloist and Heather Stott (who is mentioned on the other BBC page for the Manchester concert) is a radio announcer. So, Hayley will it seems, be the only singer to be on her own - and that makes it highly likely IMO that she will be shown singing at least one song on the National broadcast (not just the regional one) Does the Last Night of the Proms get shown in North America and other Countries?

The programme... or as near to one as I think we'll get in advance... is here! Extracts: " Start Date: 10/Sep/2005 Start Time: 17:00 End Time: 22:30 Concert performers
The BBC Philharmonic will be conducted by Stephen Bell, and 18-year-old singing sensation Hayley Westenra will perform tracks from her latest album. She will also sing classical favourites like Ave Maria and Puccini’s O mio babbino caro.
BBC Young Musician of the Year finalist, euphonium virtuoso David Childs is another star attraction on the night, and he will play his own orchestration of the Carnival of Venice. Local performers Duel, Aquarelle and Chetham’s School will also perform on stage pre-concert." As far as complete TV and radio coverage is concerned, the Manchester concert will be broadcast on GMR local radio - and GMR may be receiveable on FM radio well outside Manchester itself. Keith, or anyone else up there, can you receive it and record it? Another possibility for recording the complete Manchester concert will be on Sky Digital's Interactive "red button" service, on TV channel BBC 1 or BBC 2. If I decide to stay away from the concert (because it's 240 miles away and my twin daughters' birthday the day before!!!) I will try to record whatever is broadcast but I have no idea how good or bad the quality will be. Can anyone else get the Sky Interactive service?Cheers, Dave

That's a nice find Dave. Very interesting. But, I sit here with a long face I cannot receive GMR and will, therefore, not be able to record this item. I have cable, not Sky. And my next door neighbour who does is on holiday and won't be back until Monday. Keith.
