First off. Hi Dave, many thanks for that, I have downloaded it and watched it. Brilliant. That's about the sixth time I have watched that item now (I have it on video as well) and can definitely say that Hayley really can swing. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifThere are several occasions when Heather is off key during the song. I think her "Look For The Hero Inside Yourself" is brilliant but, it really is a case that music like this is beyond her. Hayley's rendition was as near perfect as anyone will get. She did herself proud at the VE Day concert. I love it and can safely say I will be watching it many times more. Keith.

Hi,
Thanks for the excellent clip Dave. I had my dvd set to record the concert but it didnt come out. So now its great to be able to see it in high quality. I was trying to spot myself in the crowd.
Like a few others, the song has grown on me, its quite catchy and I think the performance was very good even if the 2 styles dont match up.
Hopfully Hayley will try out some different styles in the future. She would probably adapt to any style perfectly.

Interesting to read the debate about Hayley's duet. Well, if you really want to know who sang the best just take a look at the original sung by the Andrews Sisters. No, I wasn't there at the time! But I have seen film of them in action. When you have watched them, I'm sure you'll agree that Hayley's performance (even the way she looked) was very close to them. I wouldn't be surprised to if Hayley hadn't checked out their style before the concert so that she could get an element of authenticity. My mother, 84 bless her, was at the original VE Day celebrations in London as a young 20-something and watched the TV show on the 8th. She said that listening to Hayley's voice and seeing how she looked brought the memories of that day back to her. Knowing her, she was probably dancing in front of the TV as well! I couldn't make it to the concert as I had to be elsewhere that day but I am looking forward to seeing Hayley in concert at Kenwood in July.

Well, Now that Dave has admitted going overboard with videos , let me tell you I have done so for quite some time already .... OK - I downloaded Dave's Chattanooga Choo Choo - but it hasn't changed my mind. Frankly, I don't think any singer could perform this song in such a way that I would like it. I'd rather listen to Hayley perform Hine e Hine like she did on the Parkinson Christmas with the Stars show, broadcast on BBC One on Christmas Day 2003 (this is my all time favourite live performance). Or to Pie Jesu, as she performed it as introduction to the Russell Watson concert in Auckland in February 2002 (my second favourite). Until I saw Dave's message, I'd never thought about putting these on line in Hires quality, but here they are: www.hayley-westenra-international.net/hwi/hires/hineEhineHR.wmv (58.3 MB) www.hayley-westenra-international.net/hwi/hires/piejesuHR.wmv (53.6 MB) The way Hayley performs on this songs, frankly, in my opinion Chattanooga Choo Choo isn't in the same class. Then again, I am extremely biased, as I explained before. And now for an encore - and this is not for the faint-hearted, this is a 143 MB file. It is what I consider one of the historically most significant interviews, from September 2003, when Hayley was interviewed on the NZ Holmes show (from London), while Jill, Sophie and Isaac were interviewed from NZ: www.hayley-westenra-international.net/hwi/hires/holmesHR.wmvNow don't attempt to download that one, when you are on a dial-up connection. That might take you 6 hours. "Slightly" smaller versions of these videos are available fro HWI, and from the multimedia section of the RWHW group. Gerrit

But I do like a bit of big band every now and again and I now enjoy Hayley's performance on CCC every time I hear it! Hayley has of course sung Across the Universe of Time with James Last - and I loved that, too (it's on HWI somewhere) so I think we may soon start thinking of Hayley as Little Miss Versatile. Even though we may not all like all the styles she sings, you'll not hear many grumbles about it from me! Hine e Hine isn't one of my favourite Hayley songs, though the Parkinson performance is good - but I have to say, that performance of Pie Jesu is the best live performance of it that I've ever heard - bar none. Not a note out of place, phenomenal, perfect. Wow! I'm sticking it on my desktop next to Chattanooga Choo Choo! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

Hi Dave, I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment about the Pie Jesu performance - I think it is by far the best performance I ever heard by any performer. The concert where Hayley performed Pie Jesu was issued as a Russell Watson DVD - and it did feature Hayley in three other songs - but this one was left out from the DVD. Now, you refer to Hayley's performance wih James Last on ProSieben. Actually, I am not sure if it is available from HWI. It can be downloaded though from groups.msn.com/RussellWatsonHayleyWestenra/hwmultimedia2004.msnwCheers, Gerrit

Hello everyone, There was some recent discussion of Hayley's Chattanooga Choo Choo duet with Heather Small in a couple of other threads so I thought it would be interesting to dig out the copy that I have and upload it to HWI at a higher quality than the YouTube versions (at least one of which was I think pinched from what I did originally). So here we have it, a thread resurrected from the forum dungeons - and another video added to the "missing" 2005 archives. I have also added the song title to the thread title so it can be found easier when searching in future. Chattanooga Choo Choo at HWICheers, Dave
