Hello everybody, this is Katie, and I'm from UK. I am a Psychology student. I like watching Sports (mainly Cricket, and I wish Hayley sings the English anthem for our cricket team sometime). I really love Music although I'm not a fan of the cool music of today, which is otherwise called Rock. I always like calm & melodious music (read: Hayley type). I don't mind a bit of a pop though
How I discovered Hayley is quite a long story. Last December, I was obsessed with this song "Memory" by Andrew Llyod Webber. I don't know why, but I had listened to it after a loooooong time (in fact, I had forgotten about it completely before I saw a video of Susan Boyle singing it on BGT). I was searching for the other versions of this track before I came across a clip on Youtube, which was a mix of various artists singing this particular track. There was a tiny bit of Hayley in it..she sounded okay in that tiny bit, hence I decided to listen to more of her songs. So I started to search for her videos on Youtube when I came across "I am a Thousand Winds that Blow"..& that was it. I was blown away, and that very track reduced me to tears. From then, till now..Hayley has never ceased to amaze me. That angelic God-gifted voice of hers is a wonder! However, my favourite Hayley song till now is her version of "Abide with me"..I don't know why, but it always reduces me tears, every time I listen to it. Just amazing. There is something about Hayley's voice (I don't know what, perhaps the tenderness?) which always touches my heart.
I do know Pure is her best selling album, but I personally prefer her Japanese albums. They have some lovely songs, and Hayley sound so good in them!
Hayley was the one who introduced me to this classical-crossover genre when I was desperately searching for 'good' music, & I will always remain thankful for that. Apart from Hayley, I really like All Angels, Jonathan Ansell, and BLAKE.

Hi Katie, Good to have you aboard! If you have searched YouTube you may well have found some of my concert videos, one of which is "Abide with Me". That was part of the Battle of Britain 70th Anniversary shows that Hayley was involved in last year. That song was put in a very powerful context, coming as it did after a narrative of the horrors of war and the sacrifices made by "the few". I think there were very few dry eyes in the theatre, and I actually heard sobbing!! www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzYCW3bhSLwMartin D

Hey Susie, thanks for the welcome! Nice to meet you Martin: Thanks for the welcome, Martin. Nice to meet you Oooo...I never come across that video, will listen to it now, thanks I am not surprised about the 'teary-eyed' part because her voice is just so emotional, & she controls that voice in a very good way. You just cannot pin point what is so great about her voice, and I think that's what adds to the beauty of her voice because it just cannot be put into words. I've hardly come across people who can reduce you to tears through their voice. I like Agnetha's voice (from ABBA), and some of the songs which she sang are so emotional, like "My love, my life" and "Slipping through my fingers", but Hayley is just something else

Hello again Katie I'm impressed! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif You have done your research well - a lot of people still don't know about Hayley's two 'Japanese Songs' albums - they're favourites of mine too. Abide With Me is a favourite also. My mum used to sing it in several of the choirs she belonged to and I was highly honoured a few years back when Hayley sang it at my request at a small intimate church concert in Telford. Another favorite is Majesty which is on the NZ Special Edition of Treasure. Best wishes Grant

Hello Katie and everyone.
You've obviously arrived at the right place as Hayley and All Angels are strong favourites for many UK members here, as we know both well from their early days, starting originally under the same management team, from which Laura Wright has gone solo as we had anticipated.
Glad to have you on board.
Peter S.

Martin: I checked out that video yesterday itself, but couldn't post my comments. However, it was amazing! The situation, the lyrics & everything just adds to her voice grant: Thanks again Hehehehehe..it was a song from one of those albums which blew me away, so when I was ordering her albums, I made sure to order the Japanese ones first, hehe. They were wonderful and so fresh because they had songs which were never sung by every other classical-crossover artist. Hayley chooses her songs better when compared And that was so sweet of her to sing it for you Joe: Thanks for the welcome I'm looking forward to my time here as well..I'm sure it's going to be good Nice to meet you! Theta: Thanks Peter, nice to meet you! Yes, All Angels are a fantastic band too. My favourite is Daisy Chute..her voice is so soothing Laura's album was fantastic, and she can only improve Her replacement, that is Rachel, she is great too

Welcome to the forum Katie.
Is it possible you heard Memory (Possibly the Elaine Paige version as it was the most popular version and available on a 7 inch single for radio and juke box play ) when you were very young, in the pram perhaps, I believe the music we hear as babies becomes quite important in our lives, perhaps our earliest memories are of music as we lie helplessly in our prams or cots, with little else to hold our attention. Can have quite a "spooking" effect, to hear something after twenty or thirty years, goosebumps and shivers.
Have a look in your parents music collection, you may find the music that has shaped your current taste in music.
Slipping through my fingers is such a wonderful song, most of the Abba songs are, ie Fernando

Hello Comet! I agree with what you said..the music we listen to while growing up shapes our tastes. Probably that's why I prefer what I prefer. My family was never into Rock music, or a lot of jing-bang stuff. I grew up listening to classicals, Church music, and a lot of Abba, Carpenter stuff (I know Hayley likes them too ). During my early teenage years, I would prefer listening to Westlife, Boyzone, Aqua, Vengaboys and such stuff. I would enjoy it..however, the quality of the most popular music has gone down over the years. We see that Bieber kind of a music is in demand these days, I've never liked it however. I somehow like Taylor Swift though. However, it was just last year I cam across this genre, that is classical-crossover..I had heard about it before too, through Sarah Brightman, Charolette Church, etc..I had heard a bit about Hayley as well..but didn't bother to check them out which was a grave mistake. Still, nothing's lost I agree. Slipping through my fingers is a wonderful song, and so is Fernando.I'd love Hayley to do a version of 'The winner takes it all'..she can hit those high notes very well. & perhaps a cover of 'Slipping through my fingers' when she is older
