My wish: I wanna go to the Royal Albert Hall one day! Hi Stephany If we are very lucky (cross everthing in sight) Hayley might attend Classical Brits 2008 in which instance HWI can turn out in force. I recently asked the Albert Hall box office if there was a date set to release tickets but I was told not yet. For the 2007 awards tickets went on sale last January. Hi Stephany and Martin That is also my wish. Seeing these videos makes me more determined. I now feel that my first visit must be to see Hayley there. Would we know if Hayley is attending before the tickets go on sale? Jim Hi Jim Most unlikely as I believe tickets go on sale before the results are known (I'm sure Dave or Roger can confirm this). Best wishes Martin Hello Stephany, Martin and Jim, I have quoted your posts on this subject in this new thread about the Classical BRIT Awards 2008 - so we can avoid the original one drifting too much off topic. Also, because the dates and the venue are likely to be announced during the next 6 weeks (but all we know so far is that they will be held in May 2008). This is the premiere classical music event in the UK and everyone who is anyone in classical or classical crossover music in the UK will attend if they can; I am sure Hayley is no exception! This is especially so for 2008 because she is highly likely to feature in the nominations for "Album of the Year" with Treasure. In recent years, nominations have been based on the ten best selling new "classical" albums of the previous calendar year (so Jan 1 to Dec 31 2007 in this case) and while it is not yet certain, Treasure should be among them. However, anyone buying tickets for the 2008 Awards is likely to be taking a chance as it is unlikely we will have confirmation of Hayley's attendance until March or April. Even then, she will not necessarily be invited to perform there. Incidentally, Hayley's chances next year will be improved because Katherine Jenkins' new album Rejoice will not be eligible for the Classical Charts and will not, therefore, be eligible for a Classical BRITs nomination. There will, however, be other tough competition for the prize. Cheers, Dave

Hello Dave and everybody! Even without Katherine Jenkins, Hayley's going to have quite a battle to win the award. The Fron Male Voice Choir have a new album out this month, and we mustn't forget All Angels' second album 'Into Paradise'. Any chance of a tie? No, I don't mean a tartan tie! Richard

When are the Classic BRIT Awards usually held? I know May, but the day? When were they held last year? I would LOVE to go to this, even if Hayley isn't there. What the perfect UK expereience it would be.

Hi everybody! I think I'd probably attend even if Hayley is not there. As I said in my earlier post, going to the Royal Albert Hall would be a dream come true. Look forward to hearing more information about it. Stephany

I think I'd probably attend even if Hayley is not there. Me too, there's bound to be some great talent on show and it should be a great occasion. James

Hi Stephany and James
I'm also considering this one. Like Stephany, I'd love to see something at the RAH.

Why? Well because I will be in Cyprus in the last week of May! However, not even the venue has been announced yet (so RAH isn't guaranteed). Cheers, Dave

Interesting, Dave. I thought the Classical Brit Awards were always at the RAH. Like Stephany, I'd love to see something at the RAH. But better when it's Hayley, ey? And more importantly if she wins It always was in the last week of May but a couple of years ago, they changed it to the first week in May and i very much hope it will be the same this uyear too. Why? Well because I will be in Cyprus in the last week of May! I'm hoping the same thing. I won't be in Cyprus (lucky you! )but I have exams at the end of May. Stephany

I'm ALSo hoping it will be in the beginning of May because it will be likely that I'll be gone at the end of May. I am going to go to my brother's graduation from university in mid-May.
Fingers crossed they're in the beginning of May so the three of us have more of a chance of being able to go!

Hi Caitlin, It will also be a good occasion to celebrate the end of your gap-year! Especially if Hayley wins an Award That would really be the ice on the cake. Dave, you probably know the market better than we do. Who do you think could be a possible contestant in Hayley's category? Stephany

Hi everyone I am definately wanting to go to the Classical Brits next year. I thought that I would just keep checking the RAH website for tickets - assuming it will be held there of course. I think there could well be a strong HWI contingent by the sound of it Caitlin, I hope that youv'e not gone by then - it would be a shame to miss such a fantastic event. Mark

...Who do you think could be a possible contestant in Hayley's category? Stephany Hi Stephany, Off the top of my head, I think the following will be in the top 10 best selling classical albums of 2007 (which must be new recordings): Fron Choir, All Angels, Blake, Choirboys, Hayley, Alfie Boeand the following will be in or near the top 10: Ludovico Einaudi, Natasha Marsh, Karl Jenkins, Cortes, The Sixteen... but there are bound to be one or two surprises that I haven't thought of or who I've forgotten! I am assuming that Katherine Jenkins, Russell Watson and Kindred Spirits won't count as classical but if any of them do, they will be in the top 10. Cheers, Dave

Hi Dave & Everybody,
Thanks for the information. This is definitely something I am interested in attending.
It's a shame Katherine isn't going to be eligible this year, but hopefully Hayley and All Angels can do very well and even win an award.

Hi Dave, Thank you very much for the list. The competition is tough! Would she also be eligible for 'Best female artist' award? I am interested to know how the jury is selecting the final contestants. Sorry to bother you with all my questions Stephany

Hi Stephany,
Hayley is certainly eligible to be nominated for one of the other awards, all of which are, i think, selected by a jury of the classical music establishment. She was indeed nominated in 2004 (after Pure) in Female Artist or something similar but she did not win... Cecilia Bartoli won it. A few other classical crossover singers have been nominated over the years but they find it almost impossible to win, except in the "Album" category... the classical establishment seems to make sure of that.
Charlotte did it in 2000 but that was probably because they created a special category... one which was never been included since that year (Young British Classical Performer). So I think "Best Album" is the only category Hayley will ever have a realistic of winning (or even being nominated for).
Cheers, Dave
PS I've just estimated the sales to date (over the counter) for what I think are the top "new" Classical albums of 2007 (so eligible for a CBA award), this does not include the week 2 sales of Blake (only week 1):
1. TREASURE - HAYLEY WESTENRA 68,000 2. CORTES - GARDAR THOR CORTES 21,000 3. ONWARD - ALFIE BOE 17,000 4. BLAKE - BLAKE 16,143 5. DIVENIRE - LUDOVICO EINAUDI 11,000 6. AMOUR - NATASHA MARSH 8,000
The rest are literally nowhere (below 5,000) but there will be big changes over the next few weeks as the new albums are released and all of the above will be pushed down the list. I will keep it up to date if you like, so we will be able to predict the (hopefully) 10 nominations.
