Thank you Joe. Thank you so much. It was great to see (and hear) Hayley performing and looking happy. A really Big thank you to Bic Runga for supporting Hayley with her friendship and mostly for making that phone call.

Thanks for that, Joe. Good to hear Hayley has written "an extraordinary batch of new songs." I've set the video to start when Hayley is introduced. youtu.be/2Dsd3YIzkts?t=1h42m50s

Just watched this, it’s great to see Hayley performing again, also loved the song, so catchy and great message, she really lives everything she sings. I’m excited about new songs too!

and the Universe has a timing all of it's own. Wonderful.
This has really put a smile on my face.
Bic Runga wrote Something Good, the song Hayley performed at Shepherds Bush.

I'm soo excited!! I was sleepy but seeing her Instagram story and then the concert immediately perked me up! I love The A Side, it has such a powerful message. Hayley sang from her heart, as always, and the raw emotion was palpable.

Hi Joe (and everyone else too!)
Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
Wow... It’s SO fantastic to see Hayley performing again...
Her new song has a very powerful message indeed. To me the song conveys a story about vulnerability which can be overcome only by facing your biggest fears with inner composure and determination. It is possible for scars to heal after times of anguish and to absorb the energy and support of others around you.
I really can’t wait to hear what other new songs Hayley has to share with us too!

Wow! I am really impressed with this new song!! Oh, and wait a second. Did Bic say that Hayley had written a beautiful "batch of new songs"?! Although the first few lines were a little husky and soft, she became much stronger as it went on. To anyone who has suggested her voice may have lost its lustre... it appears this is certainly not the case. I wasn't sure on a few of the lyrics either; again, particularly the first few lines. It sounds like the first few words are "Don't be precious", but that doesn't quite make sense, so I am not certain of that. LOL So, yeah, I don't think her career is ending yet. Now, I know this concert was planned before she could have read our comments, but still... it was almost like she's telling us, "Actually, I'm not going anywhere yet!" It may take longer than we'd like to get the songs to us, but I would not be giving up hope. Clearly Hayley isn't. Hey, I think "The A-Side" could be a good name for an album! I remember I said that about Greener Lands, too, and I still think so (if she includes it). Of course, she's never had an album with a song title on it before, but it could still happen. Yes, I know River of Dreams was a song title, but that was just a Best of, not a "real" album. I know you know what I mean! I enjoyed listening to Bic's songs afterwards, too. Including familiar songs that I think she sings better than the originals. Particularly one that I used to hear on the radio at Lowe's and got tired of hearing. She made it sound a lot better. I have no idea what it's called or who it's originally by; that was the thing about retail radio. LOL P.S. Thanks to Jeff for setting them at the right spots! I have no idea know how you can get it to be at the right spot when the person clicks on it, but I very much appreciate it! It's been a long time since I've added a new bookmark to my Hayley folder. I definitely added this one to it!

Hi Libby. To get a video to start at a certain time e.g. after 1 hour 42 minutes and 50 seconds, you copy the link then add ?t=1h42m50s
At least that's the way it works on my phone (Samsung A40). It may be different on laptops I'm not sure.

Many thanks Joe for the heads-up on this marvellous return to public life by Hayley, I love the song, clearly a reflection on personal events in her life. I had completely missed it due to certain other Hayley-related activities I was at the time involved in! I have captured Hayley's song and interview in HD for posterity, in case we ever lose the Youtube replay. I also captured one or two songs by Bic, she is a top top singer whom I well remember from the early days of Hayley's career in NZ, when the two of them often vied for ascendency in the NZ pop charts and in sales. I listened to what I could of Bic back then and she really is an excellent singer-songwriter and, I think, record producer. I highly recommend her biggest hit, Beautiful Collision, it was in the NZ album charts for years and is probably still available on streaming sites worldwide. It seems from the interview that Bic got Hayley involved. She knew Hayley was in NZ and said she phoned her about the concert, presumably to persuade her to take part - so they must know each other quite well. The disappointment must have been that sudden 7 day lockdown imposed by the Government, which meant the 90 strong choir who had been rehearsing long and hard for the concert had to be suddenly stood down - they must all have been bitterly disappointed by that. But for Hayley, her connection with Bic can only be a good thing as Bic must have a bag full of useful tips to help Hayley with her own song writing skills, and who knows, hopefully to resume her career at some point. Some kind of collaboration would be even better, that would be a wonderful thing to see and hear.

It may be different on laptops I'm not sure. Oh, thanks! When I posted your links on Twitter, I made sure to say the time stamp in case for some reason it didn't stay put, since I didn't know how it worked. Luckily I don't think I needed to after all, but I just wanted to be sure. There is now a combined video posted on Instagram! https://www.instagram.com/p/CL38clpHmM5 So, she actually said she had "an extraordinary batch of new songs". I'm sure they're beautiful, too! I think Hayley gained more confidence during the song when Bic began singing with her. I do think she may need to work on the enunciation of the first few lyrics, since it was somewhat difficult to understand. A dictionary search didn't come up with any definitions of precious that made sense, so it wasn't until I put "don't be precious" itself into the search that I came up with something that made sense. As a pet lover, my pets are usually my definition of precious, so that's why I was like, huh? LOL And, of course, she admitted to being nervous, so I'm sure that was the reason for the slight lack of enunciation and low voice. Also low notes have not always been her strong suit.

This is very good news. Hayley was understandably tentative after such a long time away from performing live, but her voice is still there and as strong as ever, and her performances will become more polished I'm sure when she gets back into it. And even better, she is still writing new songs. Dare I suggest that those of us who have stuck with her through thick and thin might be about to see something new and wonderful from Hayley? I certainly hope so.
