This NZ article is about the man who gave Hayley her starring role as Marta in the Sound of Music in 1998, Pat Snoxell. I included more of the article than that so you'll understand why the article begins about something totally different than theatre.

I know the article isn't about her, but you'd think they could have mentioned the fact that she went on to be rather successful, so it could be known that he had a part in boosting her career. I suppose they assume everyone in NZ already knows her, as I guess most do.

From Gang Shows, he moved into theatrical directing. By employing a sharemilker on his farm, Snoxell became more and more involved in musical theatre and, at his last count, he'd spent 60 years directing shows both in Manawatū and around New Zealand.
The cows will testify that he borrowed the idea of a stage revolve from them. They may be right. Snoxell was always at the forefront of design, staging and construction.
"I loved starting with a script and score and then creating a whole world of magic," Snoxell says.
Looking back, Snoxell recalls so many popular shows he directed, including Fiddler On the Roof and The Sound Of Music, the first production following the Regent's restoration in 1998.
He staged the pantomime Cinderella, starring Windsor Davies, at 17 different theatres for nine months and gave a youngster, by the name of Hayley Westenra, her first starring role as Marta in The Sound Of Music.
"She was a hugely talented youngster with a very versatile voice," Snoxell says.
Although Snoxell now acknowledges he's directed his last show, he's still a member of the Feilding Civic Centre and Regent Trust Board and supports Jenny, his wife, a founding member of Friends Of The Regent.
Somewhere in a retirement village in Germany, there's an old airforce ace saying "just as well I missed that young man. There was something special about him. It was the way he moved. He was destined for the stage."
