New Zealand singer Hayley Westenra to perform in Taiwan
Taipei, Oct. 24 (CNA) New Zealand cross-over soprano Hayley Westenra will hold a concert in Taiwan in December, performing her own songs as well as popular Western and Mandarin works, according to the concert promoter.

The 28-year-old pop and classical singer will collaborate with Taiwan's National Symphony Orchestra for the first time during the concert at the National Concert Hall in Taipei on Dec. 11, the Management of New Arts (MNA) said.

She will sing songs such as "Let Me Lie," "Over the Rainbow," "I Dreamed a Dream," and "Bridge over Troubled Water," according to MNA.

Westenra will also perform the classic Mandarin song well-known to many Taiwanese people, "The Moon Represents My Heart," Taiwanese singer-songwriter Deserts Chang's "Baby," and Italian composer Ennio Morricone's works.

Westenra gained international fame after releasing her 2003 album "Pure," which sold over two million copies worldwide. She is known for her angelic and pure voice.

I'm still so surprised that Hayley has never recorded The Moon Represents My Heart. It seems that Taiwan has been Hayley's most active market for years now, so it sort of seems odd that one can't buy a recording of the song that made her popular there.

Yes, that's strange. That moment, at the World Games opening in 2009 in Kaoshiung when she started singing that song in Chinese I'm sure won the hearts of millions in Taiwan. Within a week all six of the albums she had released there were in the top ten of the album chart. The only comparable thing I can remember was when the Beatles were launched in America...
Lts hope this is the start of her comeback...

Hi everyone,

There is another report of this concert in English here in the China Post and as full details of the concert are listed on the promoter's website, MNA, I have added it to the schedule on our website and here in the forum.

First 'Hayley' concert this year, Cricket World Cup excepted, and it's good to see that she continues to nurture the success she had in Taiwan at the 2009 World Games and subsequently.

I have updated the thread title to include the date; many thanks to everyone who has been keeping us abreast of the details since they first appeared in Chinese!

Since the list of what she is scheduled to sing seems quite detailed, it looks now as if we are not likely to hear anything of what she may have created in the past year or more. So, I would guess that it would be a good bet that we are going to remain in the dark as to the answer of the big question.

Hi Bob, I think you are right, we may have to be (even more) patient - although I did notice that China Post did report "performing her own songs as well as popular Western and Mandarin works" so we might get a nice surprise!

Ah, no wonder that video was tweeted several times on Twitter today! There were several other news sources with the exact same article. The Want China Times said the same thing about her "own songs". If it's really true she's singing Let Me Lie at the concert, that would count. It does say "songs", so you never know what else that could entail...

Also saw Let Me Lie tweeted a few times, too! It's funny how certain songs are popular on certain days. It's not always clear why, but apparently somehow it's because that song is all over the internet today.

I think "Serene is Approaching" might be "Peace Shall Come", which of course is another of Hayley's own songs.

"Who is going to Haunt my heart", could that be "Wuthering Heights"?

As for the others Simba is unsure of, your quess is as good as mine.

As for "howling villa", I suppose they are now they are bottom of the Premier League.
