Hello Everyone! It'd be great if you guys could check out my video of "Somewhere over the Rainbow" based on Hayley's piano arrangement. I think it has to be the most creative arrangements of all "Over the rainbow" renditions I've heard. So would love to know what y'all think about it. I made a separate thread because I'm also working on a Hayley original song medley. We recently saw that Hayley was really happy when people cover her songs. So I want to pay tribute to Hayley by doing a medley of her original songs and possibly tweet it to her in hopes of her seeing it. Number of songs is not a limit, but I've thought of Let me lie Mists of Islay Summer Rain Across the Universe So far, those seem to work out really well together, I'd really like suggestions and for someone to give me a list of all songs that are Hayley original and not a cover. Thank you! -Pradeep

Hello Pradeep! That's a very nice recording of the song, so well done! The website with the thumbnail image is blocked here for some reason, so I embedded the video in your post instead. I chose the large option, so it's best viewed in HD. Richard

Mind you "mists of Islay" is not an original Hayley song, she first heard it on an album by Kathleen Battle and neither is "Across the Universe" which was Sarah Class. Or "Over the Rainbow" although Tim's arrangement is original I think. Other Hayley originals are
Melancholy Interlude Dell Amore non si sa Christmas Morning All with you Peace shall Come On the wings of time
Most of the lyrics on HSJS1 and HSJS2 English lyrics for Gabriel's Oboe, La Califfa and Malena on Paradiso
That's off the top of my head. There might well be others.

Oh, Martin, LOL it seems like I've said a hundred times, HSJS songs are not original songs by Hayley. They are existing Japanese songs translated into English; somebody named Suzie Kim wrote the English translation of the lyrics on HSJS1. Hayley does not know Japanese well enough to take a Japanese song and translate it herself. But even on HSJS2, where it appears Suzie Kim or anybody else did not help her, she most likely was given a translation of the lyrics. You know how some languages translated to another sometimes turn out a little funny. Well, what Hayley most likely did was use that translation, and she then intrepreted it in a way that worked well for a song. I would say that her lyrics are a loose translation of the existing songs. That does not count as an original work. Wait a minute, Martin. Now, Hayley most definitely did not write the lyrics in Dell'amore Non Si Sa. I'm sure you must mean Le Note Del Silenzio (I always spell it Note, because that's what Hayley intended; Notte on the album was an error). What makes a song an original? The Paradiso songs you mention contain her original lyrics, as well as On the Wings of Time. But does that truly make a song an original? So, even though Jeff Franzel wrote the music to Summer Rain, that was a song especially composed for Hayley's lyrics. Malena and the others were not composed for Hayley. How does that then make those songs original Hayley songs? Simba, I think you're very talented, so I think you could try to sing any of Hayley's songs that you want, whether they're original or not.

Thanks Richard, Libby for your compliments and of course martin for your suggestions... By original I meant songs that were first originally sung by Hayley, written for Hayley or by should be fine, but I think Hayley will like it more if people covered songs she wrote/cowrote. So Itll be nice to have a list to work with I thought.

Well, in that case, I believe Sarah Class wrote Across the Universe of Time for Hayley... she talks about it in her book In Her Own Voice. At the very least, I know she worked with Hayley on the arrangement of the music; whether or not the song was specifically written for Hayley personally, I'm actually not entirely sure... I can refer to my book, if you don't have one. I also like your music video, it's very nice by the ocean like that. It actually looks kind of professional.

Only 3? Haha...
Well, Never Saw Blue is definitely one of them. Probably Amalia Por Amor. And Songbird. It's very hard to choose just 3.

Hey Libby! Here I am replying a year later XD, those 3 are brilliant choices, love all of them. I'd go for, Let me lie, Summer Rain, and Across the universe of time. : D And guys! I recently did a cover of Hayley's TSUBOMI (Buds) from her album Hayley sings Japanese songs II. Hope you guys like it! It's quite a challenging song, the entire song spans 2 octaves, Hayley makes it look so easy, but only when we sing it do we know the actual range! I also have a cover of "Who will echo my heart?" on my Youtube channel, will post it here when once it's okay to Moderators, small favour, can y'all change the title to "Simba's Hayley covers" Looks like I'll be doing a lot of them Thank you!

I listened to your WWEMH, and I really liked it! One thing I'd say is that the piano was kind of loud in comparison to your voice. So, like Hayley, it was kind of hard to hear you at "I ask can you hear me". I could still hear, of course, it was just a little bit drowned out by the piano. With her it was the drums, and literally, she could ask me if I could hear her, and I'd say, just barely. LOL

Yes, it's true that the orchestra and drums at Dublin sounded a bit too load from where I was sitting on the front row. I think the sound balance was probably better further back. The problem is that the orchestra is acoustic, but Hayley's voice had was amplified and the sound from the speakers mostly went over my head. I guess I was hearing Hayley mostly directly.
I like your version of Hayley's songs Simba. I could hear the words much more clearly on your recording of WWEMH.

Thank you so much Libby and Martin! Glad you guys like it And Libby, you're right! I just listened to it again, and the piano is indeed drowning the vocals....So I redid the mix with lower piano volume and uploaded again, you can get to it through a link in the description of the video as I can't post the link here. What do you think? Is it better now? And for my next cover, I'm working on Listen to the wind One of my all time favourites! She should perform it live sometime atleast as a tribute to James Horner.

Hello Simba! Yes, your remix is a great improvement. I've embedded the new video in the thread on the members only sub-board so it's easier to find. Richard
