That is excellent news. I am having my holidays at that time to attend the World Cup so I will be at the opening ceremony. I will video Hayley just in case the TV broadcast doesn't show her

Here's the important part of the report: I'll post a link to the article on our Facebook page. Richard

Why don't I see people excited about this? Isn't this BIG news, not as big as Rugby but still? I'm so happy for her! Cricket is a big thing here in India, and if this means anything to her popularity here, I'm delightfully thrilled.

On the strength of England's recent performances in international cricket, I'd rather sleep through the World Cup and dream about golf! I heard on the radio a few days ago that New Zealand robins are All Black! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_robinRichard

A bit more detail about the opening ceremony. It will be on Thursday 12th Feb 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm NZ time and will be broadcast around the world ( not sure the entire show will be on TV ).
Part of the opening ceremony is The Christchurch Story which is an amazing display of the rebuild with Hayley Westenra and choir.

Incidentally, American Robins are not robins at all. They are in the thrush family. That's why the varied thrush, another of my favorite birds, so strongly resembles the American Robin. They used to name any bird with a red tummy a robin.

Sent from my GT-I9505 using proboards I'm again surprised how this new detail is ignored and something off-topic is discussed. Weren't we always excited about even the smallest Hayley appearances? Is this gig that uninteresting? I'm really looking forward to this, thanks Ross for the information! But my enthusiasm is dullened because of the lack of interest from other members making me think that her appearance here doesn't matter much. Though I wonder what kind of songs she'd be singing! Some Maori? And you'll be going for the world cup Ross?

I wouldn't therefore expect much euphoria until it happens and then I'm sure that Ross, and maybe other Kiwi fans will post the results. Martin

I would happily abandon our evergreen Irish winter stormed shores and go to a midsummer climate like Christchurch is having right now.
Ross seems to have this covered, not much we can do from over here except wait. Often enough the singer is ignored by the TV cameras in favour of panning across a team of players singing out of tune.
I suppose I will be cheering for Ireland or maybe New Zealand or maybe...............

Hi Simba, I am not disinterested in this appearance by Hayley. I will however be more interested when I know what it entails. Either way if I can receive it on TV where I am (I will be away from home) I will be watching. If not I will be hoping someone somewhere can record it for us here on HWI. As yet I don't think we know enough to discuss it in depth. Regards Jim

I too can register an interest. I will certainly watch if I can. But like most others here, since I had no new information to add to what Ross has already told us, I have nothing worthwhile to add. Certainly doesn't mean I'm not interested.
