I'm excited about this! I saw the announcement today as I came back from lunch. It's all I've been thinking since then.
I have been looking at the various options to get there. I have to see if I can get off work. I am like Chicago in wanting to know how much are tickets? Also has anyone found any good hotels that are close to the theatre? I hope this really works out! Alicia

OMG, THIS IS CRAZY EXCITING NEWS! I would LOVE to go this. When she performed in NY a couple of years ago, I did try, even had some tentative plans to share some expenses with Libby if she was able to go, but it didn't pan out. On that note, I can already see similar patterns of thought emerging in this thread that were brought up then, so I feel the need to chime in.
There is NO reason for anyone to feel shamed if they are not able to afford the trip, whether their shortage is time, money, or both. These are realities for many people, including me. If you do not understand these limitations, I assume you have plenty of money, and I'm happy for you. Please understand, not everyone is in your position. Hayley's success in this country is not hinging on less fortunate fans chucking the responsibility of paying their bills out the window, in order to attend far-away shows. Most seats will be filled with locals, as is the case with most concerts.
That said, I proudly declare my wish to fill a seat! I was lucky enough to see her perform in 2007 with Celtic Woman, and it was wonderful, but it did very little to fulfill my dream of seeing her live, front and center, without 4 other women sharing the stage. Sharing the stage with an orchestra, on the other hand, would be AMAZING! Christmas tunes and songs from Paradiso, icing on the cake! Big fan of both.
Cost will be the deciding factor for me. Location dictates I would have to fly and stay overnight, which could add up to too great of an expense, even if I shared a hotel room with someone. If a lack of funds prevents me from going or causes anyone to think of me as less of a fan, so be it. I don't buy into that idea and will continue to support Hayley as much as my budget allows, but not more. I'm not out to prove that I am the biggest, best, or most loyal fan. My love for Hayley is unwavering and everlasting, but my bank account cannot self-replenish, and my landlord will not accept my desire to travel for a concert, in place of rent payment.
Here's hoping I can make this happen!

How did you buy tickets already? It says they aren't available until the 20th. Also do you mind sharing how much the general admission tickets are? i just called the Orpheum on the phone and they said the tickets went on sale 5 minutes ago. That was about 4:00PM CDT. They directed me to a ticket website and I bought 1ST row tickets . I had to buy 2 tickets so I have to sell one. Larry.....Tireman

I hope that both concerts are sold out in Madison Wis. That could hopefully spur more visits to the U S from Hayley. It's been my dream to see Hayley in America again. I'm glad it's in the Midwest. That makes it easier for fans from all parts of the country to get to the venue. Larry

Frenchie, I searched for "hotels near the Orpheum theatre in Madison, WI, and it came up with quite a few. I would settle for the Best Western on Carroll Street, as it's "5 minutes on foot" to the theatre! Also, since I've stayed at Best Western before, I know they have an onsite restaurant, so that would help resolve where my meals would come from. They also provide an airport shuttle from the Dane County Madison airport (MSP). Yes, I've been doing my research, can you tell? I'm with you, Cherany, regarding what Martin said. He's said this sort of thing before, and people tried to explain, obviously it didn't register. Let's not worry about his opinion on that too much. However, as I say, I would dearly love to go, and I have vowed to try my hardest to make it happen. First and foremost is trying to get the days off, which could be the hardest part. I will certainly talk to whom it may concern to get my requested days off changed, because I will probably need my vacation hours for that, since I'll need 3 days off in a row. I usually have a bit of a wait to get my requested days approved, at least when I do it through our computer program. That's the other aggravating part. If I do get the days approved, and only if, then I will seriously look into going. Yes, Martin, I love Hayley more than my job, but my life will have to resume as usual when I get home, and I need to be able to keep my home, if that's okay with you. If I go, I would prefer Thursday, the first day of the concert, but I would have to travel and arrive the day before. Having looked at flight schedules, there's no way I'd be able to arrive early enough in the afternoon in time to land at the aiport, get on the shuttle, check in at the hotel and get settled, eat dinner, get changed (I won't wear my concert outfit on the plane), walk to the venue, and find a good seat. I don't want to wait till late at night to check in, and I will want to eat. And as I say, I prefer to eat at the hotel's restaurant to save me the trouble of hunting around for a place. I ate at the BW in Oregon in summer, and they had good food at a reasonable price. So I don't even want to think about anywhere else, unless other Hayley fans meet with me and direct me elsewhere, in which case, I'd be happy to do. Another reason that makes me want to arrive the night before is so I have time to walk around town during the day of the concert, and hopefully meet up with other HWIers. Maybe see the WI capitol building, which is apparently very, very close to the venue, as well. Oh, hmm, and maybe stop at the theatre and see if we can see if any lovely singers happen to be arriving near the stage door. If we can get to it. LOL I have no experience with that sort of thing, but I assume Larry could help out with that? Hey, with as many hotels that are in that general area, Hayley's bound to be staying very close by! I doubt she'd be at the Best Western, though, more likely one of the pricier ones. So, anyway, I'd have to stay at the hotel 2 nights, and leave in the morning the next day, unless I get on a flight from Seattle at 6 am, which is NOT an option for me. SEA-TAC airport is close to an hour away from me, depending on traffic, and of course, you have to get there in plenty of time to do... whatever it is you do when you get to the airport (I haven't flown since I was 8 years old). I would not have transportation that early in the morning, for one thing, and another, I just can't function well that early. I don't even know the first thing about airports or flying, so that's another challenge for me. What do I do when I get to the airport? Can I bring water on the plane? Can I bring my own food on? Not necessarily to eat on the plane itself, but at least to have available to me in between flights, since I'd have no access to my suitcase, am I right? No, an overnight bag would not suffice for 2 nights. So, I need to know if you can bring food or water in carry-on, and if not, do you have to buy water on the plane? I never cared for airplane peanuts, especially after an unpleasant experience with that involving my brother on the way home from Wisconsin the last time... the last time I flew. My aunt lives about an hour away from Madison, and I haven't seen her since that last time my family visited them. I'd only see her if my dad came with me, I think, and that would add a lot of extra time that my job might not allow. Any helpful tips about air travel you can give me would be very much appreciated. I didn't absorb much as an almost-8-year-old, nor could I remember if I tried. Luckily my sister will just be starting her break from her school job that week, and should have time to take care of Toby while I'm gone.

From Portland, I noticed a shocking difference in price between return flights leaving on Friday, versus Saturday. Prices change constantly, of course, but as I type this, it would cost me $415 round-trip if I catch a return flight on Friday, or $715 if I want to leave on Saturday. Both prices are out of the question for me, but I will continue to monitor flight prices. I did see a cheaper flight earlier this evening ($359, I think), but I'm not able to book anything right now. I will first have to earn the money. I've been on a very tight budget lately and have a vacation already booked for February, so extra cash is supposed to be going in that fund, lest I end up with no accommodations and no meals on that trip, just to afford this one. I'll have to find a way to earn some extra money for this concert and go from there.
Regarding your concerns about flying, Libby, I can assure you it's far less stressful than you imagine. An overnight bag is all I would bring, and I can't imagine needing more than that for a couple of nights. Pack travel versions of your toiletries, wear the same shoes the whole trip (sans the concert, perhaps), and use your carry-on bag for a few outfits, concert attire, and whatever food/entertainment you want to have while traveling, which shouldn't be much. Most airlines charge for a checked bag, so I try to avoid that. I'm sure you can find hundreds of first time flyer guides online, but a quick response to your questions: Yes, you can bring non-liquid food in your carry-on bag and onto the plane, but drinks won't make it through security. However, there are always spots to purchase drinks past the security checkpoint, and those can go with you on the plane. Water is easy to find, as are snacks, fast food, etc.
Knowing where to go is simple: check in at the counter of the airline you are flying with (they're all lined up when you enter the airport, with signs to direct you), collect a boarding pass, go through security, then go to your gate number (listed on your boarding pass). You'll have no trouble finding the security checkpoint, as every person flying is headed that way. Once you're at your gate, a person will tell you when to line up and get on the plane. If you have a connecting flight, you don't have to do all that again. You'll already have a boarding pass from your original check-in, and you will already be on the post-security side of the airport, so you'll just go to your next gate if there is a plane change. The employees at the counters are generally helpful to those asking basic questions like where to go; it's the people who yell at them over delays and other problems who get the rude treatment you hear about.

Ljbby, relative to your concerns about flying I recommend that you read all the information on your airline's website. They will provide you with all the current dos and don'ts of what to do. With all the turmoil in the world regulations change frequently. You, of all Hayley's fans just have to figure a way to go. I've traveled the world many times , so if I can be of any help let me know. Seeing Hayley in person is indescribable. Looking forward to seeing you there. Larry

Just to reassure you that you are not alone in this boat, the recession in Ireland was caused by a small number of the greedy elite who got away with the profits before our economy crashed and burned like the Hindenburg leaving the ordinary low paid citizens of Ireland to pay the bills that were left behind to the international banks through absurd taxes being invented by our government on a weekly basis, if not paid, the penalties are severe and swift, come back Robin Hood we need you. In reality I now earn about one tenth of what I was earning in 2009, that is a 90% reduction in earnings, so it was goodbye health insurance, life insurance, restaurants, car, audio equipment, computers, service providers and the list goes on and on. This was why I mentioned our HWI member in China who had walked for four days to see Hayley. I'll stop now.......

Just purchased two tickets for Thursday night. I'm really excited. This will be great fun and I hope to meet many fellow HWI members.
Libby, when you purchase your airline ticket, make sure that the name and DOB on your ticket is an exact match to what is on your Drivers License or other Government issued identification. A mismatch here can really cause problems. I've traveled quite a bit by air and, to me, the best thing you can possibly do to minimize the stress is to get to the airport early. You can then take your time and get through security with little difficulty. The first step when you arrive is to find the ticket counter for your airline, check your bag and get a boarding pass. You will need to show your Government Issued ID at the ticket counter. Keep your ID out since you will need it again (along with your boarding pass) when you begin the security screening process. The next step is to go through security. Airports are well marked so the signs will direct you to where you need to go. You won't be able to take food or water through security screening but you will be able to make those purchases once you clear security. There will be signs telling you what you need to do to go through security. You will probably have to remove your shoes and belt and put those through the scanner. There will be bins to put your stuff in so they don't get lost on the scanner conveyor. After passing security it's just a matter of finding your gate. Your boarding pass should contain info on the gate assignment but I would suggest checking the 'Departing Flight' monitors before heading to your gate since gate assignments will sometimes change. Take your time, if you make a wrong turn, it's no big deal because you have given yourself plenty of time.
I really hope that you and others can find a way to come to one of the concerts. I have never heard Hayley live but I understand it is an unforgettable experience.
