I've been on Facebook today, posting things as normal. Now, all of a sudden, I can't figure out how to post anything, because it's different. There's a box that says "Drag Link/Photos here. I cannot type in the box. Where on earth am I supposed to drag a link or photo from? What if it's in a separate window, how do I drag it onto my FB page? My windows will minimize, but even if I have more than one window up, it will not show the other internet window, it will show my desktop or e-mail instead. This is intolerable! Any helpful suggestions out there? I won't be able to be on as much during the Olympics (starting tomorrow) so I won't get things spoiled before I get to watch it, but after that, or in between skating days, what am I supposed to do?
Actually, a lot of what I post is shared from someone else's timeline, but what if what I want to share wasn't on FB already?

Hi Libby,
Drag and Drop is not a thing that is particularly easy to do on Windows. You don't have enough scrren space for it to work well, and most windows occupy most oif not all of the screen. On other operating systems it is a lot more natural, and given that I would prefer it. But I find you can click on the link and then negotiate your directory tree, libraries etc in the usual Windows way. I have been posting photos on FB most days, and that is what I do from a Windows machine.

Hello Libby! The Drag and Drop facility has been there for a long time, but it's optional and I never use it. You may have found it by accidentally dragging something into the Update Status box. If you see it again, just refresh the screen and carry on as normal. Richard

Uh... Libby... I think your FB account may be compromised... The first link that "you" posted (the bottom one) doesn't lead anywhere anymore, but the second (top) one leads to some weight loss thing. I didn't mark it as spam (due to the negative consequences that might befall you), but I would recommend you going back and removing them before someone does report them. Yes, I saw that today, too! I first got it in my e-mail, and all it showed was my e-mail address and no subject, and I had no clue what it was. So far I just commented on it to say I didn't post it. But I will remove them. Actually, everything was perfectly normal until I clicked on the link going around to watch your timeline slideshow, or whatever. The FB 10th anniversary thing, you know? And then I went back to Home, and that's how it was. It's like going there caused certain things to be suddenly updated without my permission. Oh wait, I did something in my settings about who can see my e-mail address... what I thought was supposed to eliminate something like that happening. I changed it from "Everyone" to "Friends". That doesn't make any sense. I wish you could make it so nobody could find your e-mail address on there. When you're talking through FB, why would you even need to e-mail? I don't dare go to my homepage today to see if it's any better, otherwise I'm bound to see some Olympic news in my timeline that I don't want to see yet. And I don't want to unfollow all my skating things, because I don't want to have to find them all over again when everything's over. Anyway, so all I can do today is remove my "posts"

Everything's better today, thank goodness. Have you considered changing you password? That might be a good thing to do.... -Taylor

Maybe, but how would anyone get hold of my password?

The same way they snagged all those people's credit card info at Target: hacking computer software. It's never anyone's fault when their account is hacked; it just happens. Happened to me twice on Twitter recently, actually! -Taylor i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

Could not logging out when I'm done make things worse, or does it make any difference? Because most days I find I'm still logged in. Some sites will automatically log you out after you've closed everything down, but apparently FB doesn't. I recently logged out for once, but then I'm back to where I was before, being kept logged in.

I never log out. If I did I'd have to remember my password! Martin D

Thanks Richard. Using your link, I did change my password. And I've been trying to remember to log out everyday, but I still forget occasionally. I'm not sure if that helps or not. But after something else that happened today, I'm not sure I'm quite "safe" yet. I think it has something to do with my e-mail address. Because... okay this is going to be a long story... Because I'm a moderator of the official forum, Bob and I e-mail each other, and he sometimes e-mails the administrators (who also manage Hayley's website). He always forwards stuff to me. Well, today, it appears that "I" forwarded the exact same "referral" link to Bob and the Hayley people! How embarrassing! It seems that they've gotten a hold of my e-mail address via FB. So now what am I supposed to do? Get rid of my e-mail too? Take down my facebook page? What the heck am I supposed to do? Never use the computer? Around when this first started happening, I tried to change settings for who can contact me through the e-mail address I use for FB. I switched it from Everyone to Friends. There isn't a Nobody button! I wish there was one! Isn't that what the instant messaging is for? If someone on FB wants to contact me, they can do it through the messaging. Or, if I wanted them to have my e-mail, I would just give it to them. I wish FB wouldn't force us to give our e-mails away. As for the links "I" post on FB, it's always been on the group pages, especially the Hayley one, but now the radio station page, too. The amusing part is, some members hit the Like button on "my" posts. Which I have deleted. After the other thing that happened today, I'm not sure everything's okay now, even after changing my password.

Hello Libby! If the link was forwarded to Bob from your email account, that may have been hacked too, so you could try changing your password there as well. The hacker is probably a spambot (automated computer program), so there's no point in communicating with it: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SpambotRichard

If you do change your password (which I highly recommend at this point), be sure to make it something completely different, obscure, and tricky, with numbers and lots of things like: $&@:;()[]{{}#%^*+=_\|~<>€£¥•. I think you get the idea. Also, I believe logging out does you no good (unless your hacker lives with you). -Taylor i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif
