Hi Grant,
I seem to be logged in forever, one of the few things that seemed to work. In fact I couldn't log out, and at one point I could do more logged out than logged in. Don't ask me how I did it. I think the jury is still out on this up/downgrade. Not sure it is an improvement. Some things just seem more difficult to do than they were. Not sure that the new features are enough worth having to compensate. It is certainly more complicated, but is that an improvement? I would go for simplicity of use every time. I'm not convinced Proboards have got it right, but I suppose I should allow myself more time to get used to it. But whatever, the upgrade was botched for sure. It was not seamless, and I needed Joe's help to do anything at all. That should be regarded as unacceptable and a good reason to move away from Proboards.
There is a simple old adage that experienced engineers like me have learned over the years. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". It wasn't broke, but now it seems it is for a lot of people.

Hi Joe and Everyone Sounds like you've had a pretty busy time on here whilst I've been away! Was a bit strange coming back to a "new" forum after being away for a few days - especially as I had around 100 posts to go through without the "last 50" to help me. Did find my way eventually - a bit long winded when there are lots of posts as it appears it is now necessary to go back page by page although once we're used to it, remembering there are 15 posts per page will help I suppose. Having read many posts about problems members are experiencing, I found I also needed to change settings to "theme 2" which seems to work with the Google Chrome browser I'm using. I assume we can no longer stay logged in forever with this upgrade There are also one or two other bits and bobs I'm not sure about but I'll keep them to myself for now unless I start having problems. Thanks Joe and all staff members for keeping us going through what must be a difficult time Best wishes Grant Hello Grant Good to see you, my friend. I apologize for any frustrations from this new software lark. Please ask if you need assistance, or send me a Message. I'm more than happy to work out a solution or find a fix from the ProBoards boffins at their Forum Support. You should remained logged in forever unless you logout. I will find out about this.

Martin D Hello Martin D I quite agree with your words. I just got a reply from an admin from ProBoards Support about the 'logged in forever' bit. If you have "Remember Me" checked, he said the cookie does not expire for something like 90 days. The cookie is refreshed automatically each time you visit the forum. As long as you visit more than once every 90 days, you will remain logged in forever. Also, the Support admin said about the "View the Last 50 posts" link taken away from version 5 : "It simply saves us the effort of loading all of that content on a single page. " Some members may benefit from looking through the Support Forum, to see what we forum admins are asking about. support.proboards.com/board/44/support-boardThank you, Joe

I found that the only way to get to the last post of a topic is only if you first click on a sub-board page (Hayley in concert, media, etc.). Then once you're there, you can click on the time span of the most recent post in a topic. For example, it might say, "Richard posted 20 hours ago, or something). The green 20 hours ago is clickable there. But from the main forum page, the 20 hours is not clickable at all. And no matter where you click from the main forum page, it only goes to the first page of a topic. No matter which way you do it, there seems to be a lot more clicking required. I still don't like the font of the most recent posts via the front page, either. Before, I went by whether it said "Today" (yellow) or "Yesterday" (magenta) at the top, and these each had a certain color. This made it MUCH easier to tell if a recent post had been made on the forum at all that day. Now, I have to look at the date below. None of the font stands out very well anywhere. Titles of posts need to be darker, more bold. Well, I guess the "20 hours ago" thing helps, but it's all the same color, green. So, you still have to read it more closely than before. I can only see the Profile, Login, Search, etc. buttons at the top before I log in. After I log in, they disappear. I will try changing my settings to see if I can get them to stay after I log in. Hi Libby, we will take a look at modifying the font of post titles. I tried to darken / bold / enlarge the post titles...but any bolding or enlarging greatly inflated the board descriptions. Would you Libby (or others) prefer that the turquoise-bluegreen color to be toned down a bit? Such as this example ...sorry that it's blurry

I think the color is fine! It's a lovely HWI turquoise, and I have no problems reading anything. -Taylor

Hi Joe. I am amazed and baffled. I was logged off, looking at the forum, your last post to me. I wasn't refreshing the page, but the timer kept changing every minute. (14 minutes ago, 15 minutes ago, etc.) It is like I'm connected live to the forum?!?! Never saw that before. BobS
PS It is like the messages have a built-in timer.
That works much better for posts made in the last 24 hours. Older than that, just the date and forum time is better. (Yesterday at 9:07AM gets to be confusing.)
I THINK that I have it figured out now, finally. If a post was made within the past 24 hours, there is no 5-hour time differential to mess with, and that is good! More than 24 hours, but less than 48, will say "yesterday", and the differential kicks in. Beyond 48 hours, it is fully back to the way it used to be. I'm happy with it!

I'm sorry, I like the color for what it is, but I'm afraid the font would be much easier to read with the lighter color in your example. So, I'm not going by what's prettiest, I'm going by what's easier on my eyes. I'm afraid my eyes are sort of sensitive to bright colors when I'm trying to read something on that color. In fact, reading back my post right now is a bit uncomfortable for me. I'm not sure why it's bothering me more than it did on the old forum, but it just is. Is it really necessary for everything to be so bright? Why do we need tropical colors, anyway? Isn't there a way to choose maybe a softer blue? Something more like what's up on the border below the Hayley banner at the very top? Or actually, the color of the border where the page numbers of the threads would even be better than this. I wish we could all select our own colors in our settings, too. LOL So, I vote NO for "as is". As I said, the issue isn't beauty, it's what's easier to read. And actually, what's hardest to read is the dates below the last post, if the post was not made today. If those could just be a darker green, like when it says how many hours or minutes ago it was, it would probably help a whole lot. I might even be able to accept the bright color that everyone else seems to like so much (but not when reading messages). Because I don't want to go by how dark the font is, I want to go by what it says. And it's not that easy to read for people with imperfect eyesight (yes, I have glasses, but that doesn't mean they reduce all eye strain). I think there's a reason they make paper white.

Hi Libby,
See if the time stamps are an improvement. I enlarged the text to 110%, made it boldface, and changed the font. Although I added a darker color, it didn't seem to change.

Best wishes Grant

Martin D Oh dear! Yes, I understand your frustration - we Brits don't seem to like change do we! But I think we have to remember that HWI has been with Proboards since forever and our management team seem to have a good working relationship with them. We also have to remember that we are a very small part of a huge machine that has to accommodate all of its users which can't be easy. Proboards obviously felt there was a need for change globally and we have to live with that. I'm sure we'll get used to it - eventually (don't like these new smilies though!) Best wishes Grant P.S. "The CD" is superb!

Recent Posts seems to cover 15 posts at the moment.
Can the number be increased ?
I always used the "50 Most Recent posts" method of viewing
I know that over the years we switched from 10 to 30 and then 50 which can cover several days if there is not much going on. In the days after a concert, i am sure there were times when we had over 50 posts in one day.

Hello Paul! To go back further than the last 15 posts, click on the page numbers that stay at the top left of the screen as you scroll down (2, 3 etc). Richard

I'm not sure if I'm using preview correctly - just tried it and couldn't get back to the post I was working on. Hello Grant! After you've clicked on 'Preview' you can do any further editing directly in the preview screen, then click on 'Create Post' to finalise it. In fact you can click on 'Preview' first and write your complete post in the preview screen, but I don't recommend this method if you're quoting another post. Richard
