Hi Libby,

Unless they've changed it this year, albums released last year only, will be eligible to be entered, which seems odd these days as the CBA takes place so late in the year now. Singles may be different though, as some of last year's singles were very old (Pavarotti's Nessun Dorma was entered!) so perhaps they have a different selection method... in which case, anything is possible. Sleep on isn't yet a single as such but there's still time for that!

Meanwhile, back at the RAH, I will be there Tony, and in a slightly better seat than last year.

If only I knew if I had a Job then. I really enjoyed the year I went. I was in awe....except for the whole row next to me that I had to myself! If I knew my schedule I'd treat myself to a graduation trip back to London.

Film music composer Hans Zimmer has been announced as the winner of this year's Outstanding Contribution to Music award at the 2013 Classic BRIT Awards. I hope he bothers to turn up to collect his award unlike last years's winner. Mylene Klass is presenting again and the London Chamber Orchestra will be present.

Strange that no other performers or awards annouced when it is only weeks away on the 2nd October!

Anybody else going apart from Dave?

It's always fairly random, because the performers are decided well before the nominations. Usually some of the nominees will perform, while other performers won't have been nominated at all.

Pavarotti to win Lifetime Achievement Award at Classic BRIT Awards 2013



Fifty years after his first recording and TV broadcast, the legendary tenor will be honoured with a posthumous award at the ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall.

Luciano Pavarotti will receive a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award at the Classic BRIT Awards this year. The announcement comes six years after the tenor agreed to collect this award in person, but sadly died before the event.

Nicoletta Mantovani-Pavarotti, the singer's widow who will be collecting his award at the ceremony, said: "It is wonderful that the music industry is honouring Luciano in this way, particularly at a time when we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of his first recording. It is beautiful that the Classic BRIT Awards are helping to keep his memory alive through honouring him in this way".

Passing the baton from one great tenor to another, the ceremony will also feature a performance from Maltese singing sensation Joseph Calleja, performing 'Caruso' as a tribute to Pavarotti. Audiences can also expect a world premiere performance from Gareth Malone and his Voices choir, as well as double nominee Nicola Benedetti who'll be playing an exclusive duet with pianist Lang Lang.
