WOW! Lovely video. Absolutely delightful. Thanks Maya and Dave for making it available. Perhaps the most understated job was the lady standing behind Hayley, translating the Japanese in real time for her. That's a real skill.

Could you provide the youtube link? It's already stopping and starting for me. Hi Libby, The trick is as mentioned by Joe, start to play it then pause it and watch the "progress bar" fill up to about half way, then play the rest. However, it was a higher bit rate than usual (1.25Mbps) so I've done a 500kbps version and uploaded it below the first version on www.hayley-westenra-international.com/content/nhk-tv-japan-2-august-2013...so that should be easier to play. I can hardly see the difference in quality! I haven't uploaded it to Youtube as NHK TV fired off a copyright claim against us for one of their videos a few years ago, which nearly got the channel suspended! Not risking that again! Cheers, Dave

I will be translating the Japanese part on Wednesday. I have currently some items to deal with quickly as a community leader. Also my English skill is far less than the lady behind Hayley too.

Thanks Folks,
Saw Hayley rehearsing and stage testing this song with Tim Evans and the Youth Orchestra at the Festival of Hope in Wales.
Lovely performance of Bridge over troubled water to these old ears.

I just have sent the translations to Dave. He will be adding those to the video. You will be finding more what people are talking about Hayley and songs in and out of the studio too. I am sure you will laugh more understanding the contents.
My limited English skill is not enough to translate and my expressions are limited. So I asked Dave to help. This requires him some extra time in addition to the captioning. Please wait some more days to see the video.
Best wishes. Maya

Thanks Maya, for your excellent translation. I have finished updating your transcript and translation into more standard English (only needed in a few places) and I am half way through adding the subtitles. I will let you see it before posting, in case of any sub-titling errors. There is one phrase used by the presenter that I didn't understand, but I have added it unchanged because the Japanese studio guests didn't understand it either (triple-seven etc.)! Watch this space, everyone. Cheers, Dave

Hi everyone, The interview video now has English sub-titles! The Japanese presenter, it turns out, is a bit of a comedian - as well as making one or two other claims too. NHK TV 2 August 2013 (subtitled video)I hope it's OK (it's a 'first' for me, Maya and HWI!) and once again, thanks to Maya... translator extraordinaire! Cheers, Dave

Hi Dave and Maya, Thank you for your collaborative effort. The project has turned out very well. Shedding light on what was behind all the laughter on the video has greatly improved the enjoyment of watching it. Your efforts are much appreciated. BobS

Hi Dave and Maya
Brilliant job with the interview/subtitles guys really enjoyed it - what a character the interviewer was - easy to see why Hayley loves Japan and its people.
Interesting comment about BOTW and how it's generally sung by male vocalists. I've been trying to think myself but can't recall hearing it sung by a female vocalist other than Hayley.
Best wishes Grant

Hi Grant,
According to Wikipedia, quite a lot od female vocalists have recorded or performed it, including Aretha Franklin, The Supremes, Dionne Warwick, Gladys Knight, Nana Miscouuri, Roberta Flack, Cilla Black, Bonnie Tyler, Eva Cassidy, Charlotte Church....
It was also performed by Celtic Woman in 2011.

Oh and thanks for the subtitles interview Dave and Maya. It is awesome. I know it took a lot of work, but it was worth it. Well done both.
