Hi all, Just had a look at the UK charts and Hushabye has fallen out of the top 100. Cheers, Jillian Hi Jillian, I've just seen a copy of UK Charts Plus which contains the top 200, and Hushabye fell from no. 81 to no. 118 (so it's 35 -> 81 -> 118 in weeks 1 to 3. This week's no. 1 in the Classical Artist chart is a new album by Martynas, which is no. 153 in the main album chart. So, Hushabye would still have been no. 1 in the Classical Artist Chart if it had qualified. Cheers, Dave

So poor Hayley has been denied at least three weeks of glory in the classical charts! Richard

Hi Richard,
I've now inserted an extract from the actual chart.
Yes, would have been no. 1 for 3 weeks in the Classical Artists Chart by now.
She might have been no. 1 this week in the Classic FM Chart as well, because Man of Steel OST by Hans Zimmer was 20 -> 83 -> 121 in its first 3 weeks, so was only ahead of Hayley in sales in its first week. However, THE REAL CLASSICAL, VARIOUS ARTISTS was ahead of Hans Zimmer last week so we'll have to wait until Sunday to find out if Hayley would have been top (if she'd qualified).

We have the first week's sales figures, but I suppose there's no way of telling. The release of it has been a bit of a head scratching affair -- about a month (or more?) out from the royal birth and with the main promo ending well before the event. The whole release and promotion of Hushabye has me rather confused - I'm not really sure what Decca or anyone is trying to achieve? The big event is coming within the next few days and UK promo seems to have ended. That's unless Hayley is going to NZ to promote it? Hayley's good reputation has ensured a higher charting there than the UK. Either that or Decca had no real plan at all? Cheers, Jillian

Hi Jillian,
I was thinking the same thing, there seems to have been not very much promotion and an early release which makes no sense and one top of that Hushabye does not qualify for the classical charts! Very confusing.

My guess is that Decca expected that it would qualify for the classical charts. I tend to go along with Dave's thory that they though "When at Night" would qualify as a classical track, after all it is probably the most classical sounding track on the a;bum.

Hi everyone, I've just received my copy of Charts Plus which contains the official UK top 200 albums, and Hushabye has slipped a bit more, from 118 to 156. It may slip out altogether next week because a certain Royal-to-be won't get a move on! However, of the two rivals Hushabye would have had in the classical chart, Hans Zimmer has slipped even further to no. 179 and this week's Classical Artist no. 1 (Martynas) has dropped out of the top 200. So Hushabye would have beaten off all-comers in the classical artist chart. Cheers, Dave

Hi everyone,
Hushabye has slipped from no. 156 to no. 194 in the official UK top 200 album chart, and as the royal birth doesn't seem to have done anything at all for its sales, it will probably disappear from the chart next week.
Perhaps it will do better in NZ though, as Hayley was promoting it there a few days ago!
Cheers, Dave

It would be like Pavarotti making a rapp album. What a a waste of talent. Sorry to say Hushabye will head into the dustbin of mediocre albums. What a pity. A monumental waste of time and talent in my opinion. I've had the disc in my car for weeks and with the exception of Dream a Little Dream of me all the rest is just pleasant noise. Even Dream is unworthy of Hayley's talent. Dave says that the album is slipping badly in the U K. He said that perhaps it will do better in N Z. Larry

Even though there are better songs Hayley could sing than Dream, her own songs in particular. But I still think it was a great song for her to add to the album to make it slightly more enjoyable to those non-lullaby fans. I like the way she sings it. But yes, going by the charts, it's definitely a waste of time. But I have a feeling that the lack of work required for this album (a tour, in particular) will pay off by giving her more time to focus on other interesting things. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif Probably the reason she's going right back to NZ after the promotion in Japan. She did say the wheels were in motion. A great chance for her to speed them up a bit, perhaps?

Hello folks! I'm just hoping we don't have to wait too long for Hayley's next album. I'm sure it will do much better in the charts than 'Hushabye'. Richard

What a pity, that some people ' think hitting belted out notes and long runs and complex riffs is what is use of talent ' there's more to singing than just that. Not a surprise. I'm sorry to say Hushabye is a bust. I am not surprised. It would be like Pavarotti making a rapp album. What a waste of talent... ...those posts were directly offending hayley's work, talent and dedication that she was proud of. Yeah yeah, saying hayley's capable of so much more doesn't make it a 'nice' post. It's just as offensive as it is to tell an artist who actually produced quality work, saying that it's a waste and that he could do more. Saying you don't like it is different. Sorry for backseat moding, but there's something called the "modify" button. Nobody wishes to read 3 posts of same content, just saying. Oh please and chart & sales are not hayley's fault, it's the lack of promotion and the fact that it wasn't placed in the classical chart. And finally, I enjoyed reading your much 'relevant' analogy of Pavarotti making a rap album, well if you listen closely to Hushabye, she's not really singing something out of her circle, it's just a little more intimate than her usual singing, which is still classical crossover/easy listening.

A few points if I may, which are meant generally.
I've merged some repeat-posts in this thread into one (the "Modify Post" button lets members add to or amend posts within 24 hours) and have removed one or two overly-personal remarks.
Can we try to keep discussions about the artistic merits of Hushabye to the relevant Hushabye threads in the Albums board please, not threads in Charts & Sales, which will otherwise become cluttered up.
Finally, patience please! Not everyone is on the forum all the time and it can take upto a day for moderation matters to be sorted out.
Cheers, Dave

I hear Camilla Kerslake is recording a single. Perhaps it will be sleep On, and will be promoted properly and be a hit!
