Hi Martin,
I'm so sorry to hear this. I am thinking of you in this difficult time.
In your posts on the forum and on facebook, you always showed such an affection and admiration for Sue. She must have been a brilliant woman.

So sorry to hear this Martin. I'm sure you'll find Hayley's voice a big comfort in the days ahead (I did when mum died), whichever song you choose for the funeral.

Elizabeth and I were at Sue Dixons funeral today and yes, there were tears but there was also laughter and some clapping. Sue's last day on earth was, as Martin and their respective families wanted it to be, a celebration of all the good things in her life and it was a day that neither of us will forget and a day that not even high winds and driving rain could dampen. To all HWI members who new Martin and Sue, we would like to think that we were there for you too and perhaps even for Hayley Best wishes Grant

Thanks for that Grant, and thank you to you and Elizabeth for making the effort to be there. Your being there for our HWI friends and Hayley is a nice thought.
Yes, we were determined that today would be celebrated the way that Sue would have wanted. Several people said they thought we got it right. The church was full, The hymns and Bible readings chosen by me from the ones I know were Sue's favourites, our daughter and grandson had put together a slide show of scenes from her life, accompanied by some of her favourite 60's pop songs. There was even a picture of me and Sue with Hayley among the slides, and as we walked into the crematorium for the committal, Hayley's song "Heaven" was played.
The only thing that went wrong was the weather, which was too windy for the planned release of doves outside the church. Their owner thought they might not be able to make the 30 miles back home against a wind gusting to 50mph.
I think it was a fitting way to celebrate her life, and I am thankful for all of the many people who came along to pay their respects. I think Sue will have been pleased.

Very sad news to hear that Liverpool legend Cilla Black passed away today whilst on holiday in Spain. At the age of only 72 this is a tragic loss.

England lost their group stage game against Austrailia last night and are now out of the World Cup. Not so much a loss as a hammering from a far better Aussie side on the night. What will I now do with my England World Cup rugby shirt! England cannot complain as they played badly against both Australia and Wales at crucial stages of the games. Personally, I blame Paloma Faith. Oh well, at least I can now support the Kiwis. Martin

Someone on Radio 5 called the result a catastrophe. That's ridiculous ! Wars and earthquakes are catastrophes. I'm reminded of legendary cricket commentator John Arlott's remark that "Sport is taken too seriously and life too lightly !" By the way : Congratulations to England on winning the Rugby World Cup !That's the 2014 tournament when England's women beat Canada 21-9 in the Final !! Perhaps they could show the men a thing or two !!

Yes indeed RIP Rick Parfitt.
Christmas Day 2016 has seen many tragic and newsworthy events, including the shock news that ex-Wham singer George Michael has passed away.
