Great performance and Hayley was looking fantastic. But a very interesting choice of song for prime time tv! Nothing from Paradiso or indeed anything classical. It was as if the choice of song was meant to make the statement; "I'm not a classical or opera singer - I'm just a singer and I can sing anything". I wonder also that since the appearance was mainly to promote her June concert in Dublin, the intention was partly to attract those members of the public who might think that Hayley only sings classical. Another amazing performance from Hayley. I love to see her perform Wuthering Heights, she puts so much passion into the performance, I also love the gestures, its like a nod to Kate Bush but doing it her own way too.

Thanks Dave! Fabulous performance from Hayley and a great choice of song. I thought she looked amazing too - great dress and the silver/purple spotlight was an interesting touch - Hayley with silver hair Mmmm, perhaps when she's a little older Best wishes Grant

I was only kidding about the purple hair! :rollin I just thought it was funny that the spotlight color just happened to be purple, not long after Hayley joked that she was thinking of dyeing it that color. That was when she tweeted about her hairdresser asking her if she wanted a big change, and I jokingly begged her not to dye it a strange color like blue, and she said "I was thinking purple? "

Hello Libby! Knowing Hayley, I'm now wondering if she asked RTÉ for the purple spotlight to have a bit of fun with her fans. Richard

...But a very interesting choice of song for prime time tv! Nothing from Paradiso or indeed anything classical. It was as if the choice of song was meant to make the statement; "I'm not a classical or opera singer - I'm just a singer and I can sing anything". ... The "choice of song" was a huge statement that required a lush orchestration — complete with grand piano, electric guitars and basses. If ever this song was done full musical justice by Hayley, we most certainly got it here. Okay, that said, it also makes a statement that the field of classical crossover artists is crowded and you really need to diversify or go in a separate direction if you want to avoid being submerged. Hayley is departing from her repertoire and redefining herself as a potential pop artist who can be trusted to deliver the edgier stuff in place of the fluff, and who can blame her? Singers need to reinvent their careers every so often to stay alive in the business, and what we're likely seeing is the early stage of Hayley changing with the times. Ironically, it's her earliest major work (Wuthering Heights) that's jumpstarting the next phase, but that's probably why she fought so hard to include it on Pure in the first place. She knew in time it would be her ticket to a bigger audience when the standard fare had run its course. Well played!

Yes, it did seem a bit strange though, introducing her as the best selling CLASSICAL singer of the 21st century, just before she performed a pop song!
But we keep hearing hints about a new direction -singer-songwriting perhaps. It is difficult to see how she could exercise her undoubted talent for doing original things within the classical sphere. If she stayed there, and simply kept singing the same old stuff, she would not be able to make as much use of her creativity as I suspect she would like. That creativity (as well as her fabulous voice) is what keeps her ahead of the pack, and I suspect she would like to make more use of it. Which means perhaps moving away from classical.

I LOVED this performance to pieces! I've finally discovered a new color in Hayley's voice when she's singing WH! Her version has always been beautiful but now it seems like she really understands it and it's edgier now. This must be one of my fav Halyey performances! And her outfit - can I steal it, please?
