Yes, let's not "bicker" (though I don't think it's been that bad). Because no matter what anybody says about how impossible it is for Hayley to "break" the US, I'm not going to let it discourage me. It might take a while, but I feel certain that she could get noticed if she was allowed more appearances here. If anything, it's just going to make me feel like I should try harder than I already have. Except for the time being, I'm out of ideas. But at least I've tried a few things that I hope will work out someday soon. Anyway, I've said it before. I don't expect her to be as popular as say, Beyonce, or somebody. I think in the past, I've listed Sarah Brightman and Enya as examples of the popularity I'm aiming for. It's hard for me to really know how successful each of those singers have really been here, since I didn't start paying attention to either till several years ago. I do know that Enya's songs have been, and probably still are, played on the radio. The first song I ever heard from her was Orinoco Flow, which was used in a cruise commercial "Sail away, sail away!" Perfect song for a cruise commercial! Then, her song "Only Time" was played during a TV show. So, if Enya's songs were popular enough for things like that to happen, it shows she is fairly popular. And she's not American, and she never tours! But I know she could if she wanted to, she just doesn't want to. I really wish she would, I'd love to see her live! As for Sarah Brightman, I'm pretty sure she's toured here before. Maybe not very often, but I'm pretty sure she's been here. Lots of figure skaters, American and otherwise, have performed to her songs before. She even performed on AGT in 2010! True, she wouldn't have been there if not for Jackie Evancho. I guess I really wish she could be as popular here as Josh Groban is. He sells out arenas, all while still being able to stay mostly anonymous. Or how about Andrea Bocelli. He's not American, so maybe it's best to compare with non-American artists.

Well, Libby, Hayley sells out arenas here, well concert halls at any rate. And she is known to prefer small intimate venues to huge impersonal ones. It is easier for her to connect to her audience I think.
I think Hayley also likes to remain anonymous. I don't think she would like to be persued by the media wherever she goes, she want's to control her exposure. And I gather that Arnaud is even more retiring, and prefers to stay out of the way, even to the extent of not giving Hayley's fans the opportunity to photograph them together. If Hayley became a huge "celebrity", then the media would try to drag Arnaud in I'm sure.
One day I'm sure, Hayley will be recognised for what she is, the finest singer of her generation. But that may be well in the future. I can imagine her becoming one of those artists whose genius is only recognised by the media many years after they did most of their best work.
But you and I, and those who know Hayley now, are ahead of the game. We all want to shout to the rooftops about this wonderful singer we have found. But we also need to ask ourselves if that is what Hayley wants us to do.

Martin, please [re] read my last paragraph: I guess I really wish she could be as popular here as Josh Groban is. He sells out arenas, all while still being able to stay mostly anonymous. Or how about Andrea Bocelli. He's not American, so maybe it's best to compare with non-American artists. So, you see, I'd like her to be famous enough to tour here, without being chased by the papparazzi. That was my point in saying I'd like her to be as famous as Josh. Once in a while he's caught walking his dog. I know, positively scandalous! :rollin And I would be perfectly happy if Hayley could sell out smaller concert halls instead of arenas. As long as I can go see her sing, I don't really care where it is! I'd prefer that it not be in a bar, though, but I could live with it.

Once in a while he's caught walking his dog. I know, positively scandalous! Hi ! Libby !!! & Hi ! Guys ! I think that U have brought up some REALLY really good points , although , I fancy that , even U yourself might NOT have been aware of those "Good Points" ~~~ 1.) Regarding Signore Andrea Bocelli --- YES ! He is Non-American , by Nationality , as a matter of FACT. However , the Signore is ENTIRELY a very very different story , in my humble opinion . Firstly , in terms of the demographic of Age & Gender , Signore Andrea , being a very mature, handsome , Italian man singing lots of Love Songs in the Italian language , is simply INSANELY appealing to the "Desparate Housewives" market demographic of America . Second point , in terms of Race ( & please forgive me if mentioning the R-card sound a bit too blunt or even Bi+chy ) , we all know that a Fairly Large Chunk of the White population in America has Italian blood inside of them . THIS also adds to the Signore's personal appeal & marketability .......... & also , if we add into the factor of the sense of Empathy for an "Italian Immigrant Story of La Vita Bella" & "The Coming-of-age" qualities of a very mature Italian man , in which Hayley herself possess none of these qualities by Default , I guess you'd pretty much understand WHY the Signore has become so successful with CD sales & Concert sold-outs. Third point , ........... NOW please forgive me again , I dun mean to offend ANYONE , I am being Frank , Honest & I SWEAR my intentions are all benign , OK ? ................. The Signore being Blind actually benefited him Tremendously in terms of his marketing image & sales figure success . American people , by their popular slang , always "Love to Root for the Under-dogs" . & THIS , coupled with the "Marketing Slogan or Marketing Gimmick" of him being the "Singing Voice of God" basically helped to add Bucket-loads of "Kudos & Bravos" in his Resume as a singer . & NOW , may I divert my attention to talk about "Josh Groban & the Papparazzi" . Regarding THIS , I just have to say that , YES this is also a REASON why , even I myself DO NOT want Hayley to be "Too Big & Too Successful" in the USA market . In terms of Show-Biz , the Papparazzi in the USA are probably "The Worst & The most Pernicious" in the whole World . THEY would NEVER ever "leave ANYONE alone" , in terms of stalking celebrities who happened to be "A-List" celebrities , UNLESS Unless , you are on the same level as , say for example, American National Treasure , such as Meryl Streep , Ellen Burstyn or in terms of singing , e.g. Renee Fleming . only THEN will they show you a bit of respect & decency . & ........... I guess , even Hayley herself , has become aware of this "So Sad & yet So True" fact , especially after ALL these years of "Intentional Leakages & Manipulation of Indecent Photos" of some other A-Listers like Scarlet Johansson's nude photograph . & even if we went back to Libby's example , even somebody as Respected & Admired as Josh Groban has become their target , in this way , I guess you guys can probably see the REAL situation "As it IS" . ~~~The Waters of America provide artists with potentially the MOST PROFITABLE & potentially the MOST LUCRATIVE catch , but inside these Waters , there live the MOST VINDICTIVE & the MOST ferocious of all Alligators .~~~ & ......... that's WHY I always put stress on this point , Our Princess of Light deserves BETTER , in fact she deserves SOOOOOO much BETTER than what WE the fans , or even the whole World can offer her ! & she SURELY does NOT have to ingratiate her own precious self to "Something as awful as that" . Best Regards Chungie

The " Breaking The States " thread has been roundly discussed.
I really hope she does; however I can assure you if she does and proves to be successful she will not retain her anonymity.

Yes she will. We're not asking her to be Britney Spears, or whoever the famous people are these days. We're just hoping that more people will know about her and buy her albums, and that she can do at least a few concerts here every so often. And I mean a real concert. That's all I ask. You all always assume that in order for any of that to happen, she has to get chased by papparazzi. Like I said before, if Josh Groban can be as successful as he is and almost never get stalked by papparazzi, then I would think Hayley could attain the same success without that, either. Some of you act like there's only the extremes, either no success, or huge success and fame, and no privacy at all. But I don't think it's too far-fetched to think she could be just a little bit more well-known, without losing her anonymity. If she can still remain somewhat anonymous in her own neighborhood, for goodness' sake, and still she tours and attends movie premieres in London, then you wouldn't think just a tiny bit more success in the US would do her any harm, either. Maybe the pessimist people should leave this discussion, since they're so sure she'll never make it here, anyway, and don't want her to ever have her picture taken here. But all that isn't going to chase my hopes away. I feel sure it could happen for her someday, if the right things were to happen. That's why I'm trying to initiate things that may actually help. If anybody heeds my letters, that is. And I can claim that at least 3 have been heeded. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

Martin D Martin you must think I have it in for you; but to compare thr U K with the states is like comparing apples and oranges. This country is enormous and it takes a lot of money and promotion to succeed here. But more important it takes luck. Luck like Celine Dion had with the Titanic film. If Hayley could get a break like that it could help a bunch. But here it's all about exposure. You can't fill a concert hall if you don't get the chance. My opinion is that her management team blew it when she had the Pure album. Larry

Being American does help, you're right. But Andrea Bocelli isn't American, and he just had a big concert in Central Park, as well as a few other concerts in the US. But, other than that, I don't think he tours here that much. But for him, it's because he's been around for a while, been really famous around the world, then singing with Celine Dion, people skating to his songs, etc. Not to mention performing on skating shows televised in the US. Oh yeah, he sang on the Grammy's with Josh, too. So he's had a lot of exposure. But, you don't see him getting stalked. One thing that probably helps with that is that he doesn't live here. If Hayley were to be more successful here, I don't think the media would be much problem, because she wouldn't be here very often, wouldn't live here. So really, even if she were to be a really huge success, she still wouldn't have to worry about it that much, just for a few days while she was here. A little extra attention every so often doesn't hurt. And in fact, the more she's in the media, the more people can take notice of her. But it's never likely to get that "bad". Celine Dion was already known for her pop songs before Titanic. Enya was already somewhat known for her songs on the radio, too. She even did a song for a movie with Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman (?), called Book of Days. Very nice song. Annie Lennox was already known for music with the group she was in, too. For Hayley, though, I think the movie theme might have to come first for her, if at all. But even that won't land in her in the US tabloids. It would just add more album sales, and that's a very, very good thing! The reason I'm so set on The Hobbit is that the fans of these movies love everything about the movies. Not just the story and characters, they love the scenery, they love New Zealand, they love Peter Jackson, and they really do love the music!! They might like the idea of a singer from the land of "Middle Earth" itself being involved, too. So yeah, Hayley's involvement on the soundtrack would be very good exposure for her. Not just in the US, either, around the world. Tolkien fans are worldwide. So, that's another huge reason. Let's just hope it works out for Hayley to do it! I've already done my part, now let's hope Howard Shore and Peter Jackson choose her, and maybe this summer or next, she'll be recording her vocals/songs for one of the 2 films. As well as for The Stolen.

...Hayley will break the states someday in the form of a great movie song that catapults her to full recognition the way "My Heart Will Go On" made Celine Dion a household name. That day will come ... Wow, this old post of mine proved to be prescient! Look what just happened in Beijing! All Hayley has to do now is sing that song stateside and people will waiting in line to hire her for their hit movies. I personally think she knocked it out of the pavilion in Beijing. She has officially taken ownership of that song from the sinking ship!

My 2 cents worth: I don't think Hayley will ever really be stalked by the press here unless she does something questionable, which is not in her character to begin with so no worries. And don't get me wrong, there may be a few press following, but nothing like what the Brittany Spears and crowd deals with. I believe this goes to Josh as well. He really has not done anything shocking in his career so far (and hopefully not in the future). So they don't follow him around because he won't sell magazines like they need. I like Libby's statement a couple posts up how our goal is to get Hayley to be, as I call it, "an underground sensation" here in the States. Not like Lady Gaga's nor Katy Perry's success, but still has a healthy following and can sell out a couple theaters throughout the States when she tours every so often. And personally I think that is all a singer can hope for right now if they are not in the "it" music. And it has been that way for a couple of years now. For our overseas friends who might not know, but the "it" music here in the States has been the country/country-pop genre and the rap/R&B/Hip-Hop/Electronic genres. And I think the only thing Hayley is lacking is smart promotion. A few song-n-interviews on great TV shows would be nice like Ellen. But the most important one, however, is to get a special to PBS whenever she releases a brand new album like Paradiso because that will get the "Barnes and Penny Loafer" crowd to go out and buy her album. And PBS is the main outlet for those that like the classical/classical-crossover genre, which allows her to reach her target audience the best. The thing is the general population in the States have the attention span of a 2 yr old (probably because we are over flooded with media) thereby as a singer you have to constantly remind them that you are still here and releasing new music and going on tour. With that being said, I think with Paradiso, Hayley missed a few opportunities last year to promote herself as well as her new album.....unless she has something up her sleeve I don't know about. As far as soundtracks are concerned, I think they can work only if the movie is popular and as an extension the music is praised and used to help promote the movie. Otherwise, no one will really notice the soundtrack nor the participants on it. I think though that Hayley may have put a bug in some people's ears tonight with her performances in Beijing like Mr. Cameron. So we shall see. I think The Hobbit would be a cool movie for her to be in as well Libby! Fingers crossed!!! Alicia PS Celine was well known in the States before MHWGO. She had her #1 single "The Power of Love" and her award winning song "Beauty and the Beast" from Disney's movie of the same name in the early 1990s to help propel her to fame. Not to mention her Grammy- winning Album of the Year "Falling Into You" that was released in 1996, which included "Because You Loved Me" from Up Close & Personal. Sorry but big Celine fan here. LOL

Haha, that's what I've been trying to say for all this time. LOL Now let's hope the pessimists stop complaining about the papparazzi stuff, now that they know what we mean. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifAs for The Hobbit, it's just exactly the kind of movie you describe, one with music that people love. As I described in my post, it's all part of what makes the Tolkien movie following so huge. The story itself, of course, is the main thing, but also the characters, the actors, the director, the MUSIC!!, and the scenery. Of course, there are more passive fans of the movies/books, too, but they are still likely to watch the movie, and at least hear the soundtrack/theme song in the movie theater. Problem with the theme song, if it's at the end at the credits, a lot of people make a beeline for the exit the second the credits roll. But real fans will stick around. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif Like me. I'm going to see it as many times as possible.

Stalking by the Stalkerazzi usually happens once a young lady is known for falling out of her dress whilst falling out of nightclubs. The only exceptions are the total mega-stars who are true giants of the industry.
There is a happy medium of successful & well known that does not invite constant Stalkerazzi, and Hayley is never going to be drunkenly falling out of nightclubs, let's be honest. She is not, thankfully, that sort of person. With a very settled life, never a bad word to say about anyone and being in the habit of wearing clothes when she is out, I think it is safe to say that Stalkerazzi indifference to her is likely to remain total.

Well, I'm back again after another temporary leave to take final exams. And I'm sorry to beat a dead horse with a stick. I wrote out this post before I noticed Libby's post about ending the bickering Well , Regadring THIS "American" thing , I just wanna add in some of my personal obervation . "The American Audience" , from my personal POV , loves to "Look at a performer, esp. a performer from another country , through the Perspective of Stereo-Types & Pre-Assumed Labelings" . The General Rule is , if you dun fit into those stereotypes , THEY basically just "https://i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifeduct your Marks" . e.g. when they look at a performer from China , all THEY see is Chinese Ku Fung . when they look at a performer from Russia , all THEY see is The Circus . when they look at a performer from Argentina , all THEY see is "Tango Dance" . when they look at a performer from France , all THEY see is "Chanson" or "Edith Piaf" . when they look at a performer from Cuba / Brazil , all they see is "Bossa Nova" or "Samba" ........... when they look at a performer from New Zealand , all THEY see ......... or all THEY want to see , probably would be a "Whale Rider" or a "https://i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifolphin Whisperer singing the Oceanic Songs for the Dolphins" ............... THEY only want to look at "The Performance" in the "WAY" THEY wanna see it . I remembered that , even in the Old Days , THEY only see Vivien Leigh as "Lady Scarlet O'Hara" ............ & Nothing else , or Almost Nothing Else . THIS type of "Treatment" is ESPECIALLY evident in the way they look at a FEMALE artist . In this way , our Princess of Light might have , in their All-American Eyes , "Walked on the Wrong Step" & "Not fitting into their pre-Assumed perspective" of a Kiwi SHOULD be , or SHOULD appear to be in front of them . & therefore , Hayley failed to gain their affection . If I may ask, where are you from, ChungChunglee? I can assure you that we Americans (I italicized 'Americans' to convey it being said with a sneering, disgusted tone) do not love to label and stereotype performers. I know I can't speak for all Americans, but, I think I can safely say that your assumption, or accusation, is unfair. Also, there is no "General Rule" for "deducting marks" from a performer. What does "deducting marks" even mean? If it means judging an individual based on appearance and whatnot, I'm offended that you think Americans to be that shallow and mean. And please, PLEASE stop referring to this discussion as "This American Thing." It sounds so derogatory. And in regards to your comment about "Hayley not fitting into what Americans think a Kiwi should be or appear to be"--What should a Kiwi look like? I mean, I know kiwi's are greenish brown and are fuzzy, but I'm pretty sure that's the fruit and not a person. -Paige PS: When I think of China, I think of either Chinese food or brilliant musical talent. When I think of Russia, I think of ballet. When I think of Argentina, I think of Eva Peron and Sir ALW's Evita. When I think of France, I think of Lara Fabian and French Pop (one of my favorite music genres btw). And when I think of Cuba/Brazil I think of ....well I'm not quite sure what I think of....Coffee, maybe

Well, I would say he got one thing right. A lot of Americans want to LOOK at the performance, they don't bother to listen to it. And before you think I'm singling out America, that is sadly true of people all over the world these days including the UK. In the radio age it might have been different, but nowadays in the age of TV everything is visual. But musicians make music, and it is primarily intended to delight the ear. I might be old fashioned, but that is how I prefer my music.
