If the game were being played in Paris then I'd entertain the notion that maybe the French would have a slightly better chance of winning than a cat in a hot place ! I checked the odds on a French victory. It took them a while to stop laughing then they told me, 6/1. But I don't care if it's 6 million to one because New Zealand are well nigh invincible on home soil. The only way the French could win is if the referee helps them again, like he did in the semi. The All Blacks need to be careful to maintain their discipline and not give the referee an opportunity to show any cards of any colour because the French are good at exploiting that. I didn't like the way they surrounded the ref to try and get the Welsh player sent off in the semi. We'll probably see more of that in the final. Before the tournament started I said on Twitter that rugby players set a better example to youngsters than soccer players. It seems I may now have to eat my words but I still feel Jonny Wilkinson is a better role model than Wayne Rooney. Meanwhile the row about the ref rumbles on. I've tweeted Drew (a qualified rugby referee) to ask why the Welsh got a red card but the All Blacks got a yellow card in their semi for a similar offence. Inconsistency really gets me. Surely both should have been yellow ? It made no difference to the All Blacks but it cost the Welsh everything.

The National Anthems take place just before the start, 9 am NZ time, so you should be able to see them (if they aren't hidden by an ad break!). Hi Dave Should that read 9 am UK time?

Hi Jim, I meant 9 pm NZ time, I got confused as Libby said it's on where she is between 12 pm and 3 pm. Should be middle of the night for her, Sunday morning, not middle of the day! I've corrected my post. Dave

I can't see New Zealand from my house, so it's not likely I'll be able to watch it at 1 am. NBC isn't showing much of anything at 1 am. It explicitly says 12pm. That would be horrible if they only showed it at 1 am, because then that would guarantee nobody would see it! Well, they might at least be nice enough to show the guys do the Haka. They should at least think that's interesting for people to see. I'll be horrified if they don't show the anthems.

I never thought they wouldn't show it live. The match time was obviously set to be convenient for NZ Australia and European/South Africa TV audiences, as that's where Rugby is most popular. There will be a lot of tired Kiwis turning up for work on Monday morning though, especially if the ABs win!!!
It's good that they are showing it in the US on a major channel though, but disappointing for some I guess that it won't be on live (on NBC anyway).

There's a possibility that Universal Sports, an affiliate of NBC, will show it live. As far as I know, NBC only shows things live if it's at a reasonable TV-watching time. Noon is a very normal time that the station shows sports on Sundays.
I'm just happy to have a chance to see it at all! It doesn't matter to me whether it's live or not, as long as I do see it!
Are any other Americans disappointed they won't have to stay up till 4 am (at the latest)? I'm not! I would record it at that time, if it was really on then, but I definitely wouldn't be missing my sleep over it!

I checked TV guide.com, and so far at 1 am, Universal Sports is showing the 3rd place match, starting from 10:30pm till 1:30. After that, Paid Programming for hours, then gymnastics Worlds', the 3rd place match again, etc. Figure skating (which I will be watching, as well!) starting at 10:30 am. They won't be showing the final on this channel till 9:30pm! At 1 am, NBC is showing Almost Live and Paid Programming, Today show, etc., etc. Nope, nothing until 12pm. Which is perfectly fine with me... although it is in the middle of the figure skating coverage on US, but I'll be recording that on my DVR, anyway, so it won't kill me to turn away from it for a little while. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

The pay-per-view channel inDemand will air the final on Sunday from 4 to 8 am for $30.
My local NBC affiliate WBRE will air the replay at 3 pm Sunday.
May the better team win ;

Hi -
Checked our online local TV schedule (Boston area) for the final rugby match. It is listed for showing on our local NBC TV (WHDH, channel 7) Sunday, October 23, 3:00 to 6:00 PM, final match, teams to be announced. (Just not updated.) So, I'm in hopes of seeing/hearing Hayley sing if the "Universal" connection is strong enough not to have her over-ridden by commercials. Time will tell.

Libby, if you're interested in seeing the haka, keep a look out just before the players come onto the pitch. In the semi-finals they had 3 maori chiefs playing what looked like a didgeridoo, a kind of wooden trumpet but I don't know what maoris call it. For the final there will probably be more than three tribesmen. The French of course will have a chap in a beret playing an accordion. (well no, I made that bit up !). I must say I'm very much looking forward to Sunday's slaughter...... er, I mean match. Roast cockerel anyone ? Other news: Welsh coach Warren Gatland has admitted he considered cheating when his player got sent off. Well, why not ? If the ref didn't keep to the rules why should he ?! A very funny video has appeared on Youtube in which Adolf Hitler places a bet on Wales and is not best pleased to hear that Sam Warburton has been sent off. As you'd expect Mr H. offers some colourful opinions on the referee but I won't post a link, the language is too ripe but if like me you feel Wales were the victims of a monumental injustice, then the whole video is a very satisfying watch. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

Do you mean to tell me the ABs won't do the Haka out on the field? I saw videos of them doing it out on the field on youtube! They need to do it where they'll actually be seen; it's fun to watch, and I would think the RWC final would be special enough for them to do it out in the open. I'm not disappointed to know you were joking about the French and the accordion! I'm not a huge fan of the accordion & French music. I was going to say, that'll be boring to sit through! I'd switch it back to Skate America. I probably will anyway, once the actual rugby starts. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

Hi Libby,
Of course they'll perform the Haka on the field. It is a war dance - it is pointless if you don't do it in front of the enemy!!
I've seen them do it many times, and it is always on the feild, before kickoff.

Martin Hi Martin There was one exception back in 2006 against Wales when the All Blacks performed it in the dressing room before the start of the match because they were asked to perform it after "God Defend New Zealand" rather than before! I would like to think that the Haka these days was more of a "challenge" rather than a war cry but the movement of a thumb across the throat signifying throat slitting perhaps disproves my theory! Yes , Libby what I meant was the tribesmen will sound their horns (or whatever they're called) and then the players come out on the field and perform the haka. That video still hasn't been taken down so I can only assume ref Alain Rolland hasn't seen it yet. Anyone know his email address ?! It's a fair bet someone in a valley somewhere north of Swansea was behind it all ! He was only putting into words what some of us are thinking but we mustn't be unfair to Mr Rolland. He's only doing his job, badly.
