Hi Sing
Well, as someone who went to a soccer playing school, I am not 100% up with the rules either!
I have played the game though! At school even. After beating our staff in a staff v Students soccer match we were challenged to take them on at Rugger. A couple of lessons in the rules of the game and away we went. We got hammered!
But I enjoy watching the game, even if some of the referee's decisions are a mystery to me. But that happens at soccer too.
Yesterday, I watched Leicester City v Brighton and Hove Albion. Our ex-England striker, Darius Vasell, was fouled on the edge of of the penalty area, the ball ran free and our right back got to the ball and kicked it into the goal. At the instant he hit it, the referee blew for the foul. The "goal" was disallowed. The home crowd were understandably incensed. If the ref had waited a second before whistling, *playing the advantage", we would have had the goal we deserved. We still won the game and knocked Brighton off the top of the league though.
Referees can change a game. And some I have seen are so one-sided it is a wonder they don't fall over. I don't understand the nuances of Rugby in quite the way I do soccer, a pity I think. I just have to beleive they get it right.
And at a world cup, I would hope that we would have the worlds best and most impartial referees.

I know it's extremely unlikely, but if the U.S. team made it to the final, that would increase the likelihood of US fans of seeing Hayley sing on TV! And I really wouldn't mind if the All Blacks beat us, but the point would be for US fans to watch. I really do favor the ABs, because of Hayley, and because they seem to have a better chance of winning. But, since the US lost a game already, I doubt seriously they'll make it anywhere near the final. I can dream, though. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

Hi Libby, Yeah the odds of the US team making it to the final are infinitesimal. They would have to win their next two group matches against Australia and Italy. Then they would have to win two more playoff matches, and those would be against equally tough and tougher teams like South Africa, France, or England. Depending on how the other groups go, it would even be possible for them to face the All Blacks before the Final. This sort of thing would make the US Hockey team's famous upset win over the Soviet Union at the 1980 Winter Olympics look like it was easy and expected. Crazy stuff happens in sports, but, not that crazy. Haha. Don't get be wrong though. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't at least imagined Hayley singing 'The Star-Spangled Banner' at the Final. I dream too. Matt

Hi Martindn, Sing and everyone.
The reverse was my experience, soccer was very much looked down on to the extent it was non-existant, except for the under 13s and who ever did understand the offside rule but be careful in criticising soccer in Faryl Smith's hearing!
Unfortunately I was one of the lighter weight players, too tall to be [censored], so I got hammered and turned to rowing! In summer I took to printing--my hayfever was so desperate I couldn't go near the field. Happy memories, oh lord, more years behind me than ahead, I've made myself depressed!

Yes, it would be nice to hear her sing our anthem in her "newer" voice (since we heard her sing it with her stronger Kiwi accent years ago). But I really, really want to hear her sing her own anthem. It would just be so extra special for her, for NZ, and for us Hayley fans! Of course it would be nice hearing her sing anything on my TV, but God Defend New Zealand is what I want to hear most!
Whichever teams are in the final, this should boost her popularity, especially in the countries each team represents. Shouldn't it?

Absolutely Libby, it should definitely increase her popularity. Millions of people around the world will be watching that Final match, and when they hear her voice, plenty of new folks will start looking into her. It will be interesting to see the numbers of new YouTube views in the subsequent days. And I couldn't agree more, the chance for her to sing 'God Defend New Zealand' in front of a packed Eden Park full of her countrymen, and with the All Blacks standing beside her on the field before the grandest match in the rugby universe would be the ultimate, and is what I realistically and genuinely am hoping for most. Have you watched them do it before, on YouTube? It's pretty awesome.

Hi everyone, I've just moved the current discussion about problems making or acquiring videos in general, into an existing thread in the Technical Support board, which I have renamed as "Video problems". Here is the latest post (by Tony W) about it so feel free to continue there, if you wish. Cheers, Dave

Well, another big weekend of Rugby World Cup ahead. All Blacks vs. France, USA vs. Australia (could be an ugly match for the Americans), England vs. Romania, Scotland vs. Argentina. Gonna be exciting, especially the big All Blacks vs. France match, as France has given the AB's fits in the past. In keeping with this spirit, I've joined in on making my profile picture one of the object of all our admiration. It is a picture I hope to see replicated on the field at Eden Park in about a month's time. Matt

i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif I am going to the fanzone in Christchurch tonight to watch the Australia vs USA game. Since Australia will win this game I am going to support USA. I will have a USA flag drapped around me plus a little flag to wave as well. Plus I will wear a cowboy hat with a USA rugby world cup badge (you Americans might call it a button) on it. Should be fun. I am also going to wear the same outfit in Nelson for the USA vs Italy on Tuesday. But I will also wave an Italian flag and have a Italian badge on the hat as well.

LOL Ross. I have much more confidence in the ABs beating France than I do in the US beating Australia. It would be nice, though, if only to make the Kiwis happy. :rollin France has beat the ABs before; the time France banned Hayley from singing the NZ anthem.

Of course, that's because the French knew that the All Blacks have never lost a match when Hayley sings 'God Defend New Zealand'. And the French are a superstitious lot.

Hmm, well, if they end up in the final with the ABs (horrors!), it would not go over well with the local NZ crowd if the French tried to pull that again!
