Hi everyone.
My answer to Larry's question "What did the New Plymouth article by Mr Purdy mean when he said Hayley has an under developed voice." Is rather mixed.
I don't think he is right if he means she can't do vocal gymnastics, there are times when she does but they are subtle and integrated, not a demonstration of ability and these are controlled which he may have interpreted as indicating limited ability.
Rather crassly phrased I had interpreted his comment as referring to the fact that there is still more to come from her. She is only 24. Theoretically she has almost another ten years before she is permanently stuck with the voice as it is at that time. Her physical vocal ability is still maturing quite apart from any additional development from training, practice or developed use.
There is no question, in my mind, that there is still more to come from her. It is that which adds the excitement of seeing her regularly. The gap between Llandudno a month or so back and seeing her again in March is a sufficient gap to be aware of differences. It isn't always so. Development comes in spurts but now she is so much older it is likely that I will hear a greater body to her sound, increasing the richness and her control and mastery will be even greater

Hi Larry, I would take the "Underdeveloped" to be a compliment, As to mean a natural sounding soprano, NOT an over trained opera singer who needs to show off all the vocal gymnastics they can perform in every song they sing. Now is the Hour with a full display of vocal gymnasticsdon't get me wrong I still love some of Dame Kiri's singing, when she is not demonstrating her abilities to do these vocal gymnastics and just using her easy natural vocal range, she sounds very easy and pleasant on the ear. Thanks Paul Sounds confusing to me. I've never heard an opera singer sing a song such as Hayley can without sounding like an fish out of water. I understand Kiri said some uncomplimentary things about Hayley this year. Paul I'm gonna miss seeing you and Hayley at the NCH in Dublin this year. Chrismas in a non Chrisyian sound a bit bizzare to me. Larry Ahhhhh thanks Larry, There is no Hayley concert planned for the National Concert Hall in Dublin this year, ( Ahhhh poor, poor me ) In fact, there are no definite plans for Hayley in Ireland at all (That I know of ) I am sort of in the same boat as you at the moment, No Hayley concerts planned or booked, The ole grim reaper is hanging around again, I think he has taken a liking to our families, so leisure plans are out of the question for the moment.

Libby,
The album version features a full orchestra. But I have noticed before that sometimes Hayley sings songs more slowly live than on record - perhaps most noticably on some performances of Amazing Grace. She even does it when singing unaccompanied, so not sure it was Tim's idea.
Don't know whether performing "Whispers" live with a full orchestra will be any different. We shall see.

Maybe not, but either way, I wish she'd do it more like on the album. I love the song, and I love the way her voice sounds, but it just drags when she does it that way. I think she needs Ennio Morricone to conduct her. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif
