10 years on CD, a decade of songs

Hi all,

I realised at the end of 2009, that 2010 , will be a very special year for Hayley....
Now we are in 2010, so i will start this thread.......

After recording her first album Walking in the Air in 2000,
she is now for 10 years a cd artist !!!!

CONGRATULATIONS , HAYLEY !!!!

Thank you for the wonderful songs and all the joy you brings into my life !!!
Up to the next 10 years !!!

Hi Joyce,

Do we know the actual date when WITA was recorded? Or made available? The only clue was that it ( the recording) was "during the holidays". Which holidays I wonder. If we knew the actual day we could celebrate it.

And I echo your thanks Joyce. Who knows where Hayley will be in 10 years time. Or in 50 years time, my only regret is I won't be here to see it. But I just know it will be a wonderful ride.

Her recording career is already almost twice as long as the Beatles! And I still can't get enough of her wonderful voice, or the beauty she projects, or her uplifting songs full of the joy of living. God Bless you Hayley!

What a wonderful idea - 10 years of Hayley on CD. I've known Hayley for slightly less than half that time but I still remember very clearly that first special meeting just like it was yesterday.

What I can say without any hesitation is that Hayley has changed my life and I feel a better person for knowing her. I guess that's the serious side of being "Hayleywowed"

So yes!!

"Congratulations Hayley and thank you so much for just being you!!"

Now as to an anniversary date, it must have been quite early in 2000 as Hayley was 13 that year and Alan Traill quite clearly states in "The World At Her Feet" that Hayley was 12 at the time of the recording 'during the school holidays'.

Another clue is that Hayley actually mentions in "In Her Own Voice" talking to the sound engineer at a time she was in the studio recording for a millenium concert. This would have been December 1999 so it seems fairly certain that the 'original' 70 copies would have been produced in January 2000. With the second pressing following in February or March.

Yeah that sounds right. I'm not sure how much you guys know about our school holiday dates, but back then we had our "summer holidays" from mid December to around the 26th of January. Now the holidays start later and finish in early Feb. I think I would have been a year below Hayley at school (she's almost a full year older).

So if it was in the school holidays before her 13th B'day it would have either been then, or on the first 2 week term break which usually coincides with Easter. Easter was in late April that year...so I would also guess January.

OFF TOPIC question: When did Hayley start High School? 2000 or 2001?

Hi Joyce & everyone

Well done Joyce, wow, its hard to take in really. Anyway, WELL DONE Hayley, for 10 wonderful years as a recording artist. Like Grant, I have known Hayley for just a little less than 5 years and I really wish that I had discovered her before I did. Still, there is no doubt that my life is all the more rich for being part of 'the Hayley experience'.

Actually, the title of this thread is a good idea. Armed with a PC with a CD burner, it would be quite easy to make a "10 years of Hayley" CD. I might have a go.

If we were to do that, what selection of songs would you choose to put on it? You can probably fit about 20 songs onto a CD, depending on length. I would be looking for a representative selection spanning all of the 10 years.

Hi Martin,

Yes, i suppose so, but the UK version only covered Pure onwards, and omittted things like tha Japanese albums and Celtic woman. My choices would certainly include some of that stuff.

I'm not sure exactly the date either Wita was recorded as mentioned earlier in the thread but it was available for sale at this place
i've posted this before




in july 2000

i noticed with Wita and Hayley Westenra they were recorded just before birthdays
Maybe Christmas Holidays?
There was a Talent quest At Northlands Mall posibly April/May when the cd first appeared in selected stores.
I remembered people saying how can she be in the talent quest with a cd in the shops.

eg Wita 12 but she was really close to 13 and Hayley Westenra 13 but really close to her 14th

She certainly has been on a fantastic journey since then
