Hi all Just found this: Soprano Hayley Westenra is planning to stage a star-studded concert, dubbed Quake Aid, to raise funds for her home town of Christchurch in New Zealand. More than 160 people died when an earthquake struck last month. The singer will invite global stars to take part in the benefit concert, to be held in Auckland in August, she said. "Putting on this concert is the best way I know to help - it's my way of giving back to the city that means so much to me," she said. Westenra has postponed a New Zealand tour to plan the event. "As a Christchurch girl I am still in shock about what has happened to my beautiful home town," she said. "My heart breaks just thinking about those who have lost their lives and the families and friends that are now suffering." Westenra will also sing the national anthem at a memorial service in the town on Friday and is hoping to stage a free concert for local people. Dori Edit by Dave 17 Jul 2011: Hayley today has said that this will be in November 2011.

I don't know, but I think a similar article was posted in the "Quake Rocks Christchurch" thread. I do think it's a great idea to have a special thread for this event, though.

Hello Dori and Libby! It was a good idea to start a new thread for this special concert. We'll post more information as and when we receive it. Best wishes, Richard

hi all,
question: it is known that hayley is organizing this and has invited some overseas folk to perform... but has it been established whether Hayley will sing at this event as well??
and does the membership plan [provisionally] to attend if she doesnt?

Hayley loves to sing. I can't imagine that she wouldn't.

I imagine that she'll be the main star, but what do I know? I assumed she would be singing at the Westminster Abbey tomorrow, not speaking. So who knows what will happen. But it would seem really odd to me to plan a whole event, and not sing, when you're a very good singer, and you're from Christchurch.

I would be very surprised if Hayley didn't sing at "Quake Aid", but I'd also be very surprised if she's the star - that's not Hayley's way in my opinion. This is an opportunity for her to assemble a formidable array of musical talent and, I'm sure, she'll be contacting her heros and heroines music if she hasn't already done so. Oh! and I'd expect a duet or three i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifBest wishes Grant

Well, to Christchurch, she's the star, and to us, she is. And I guess I meant that since she's the one planning it, to me she is the star. Even if Hayley doesn't consider herself a star, other people do. I am quite interested in who's going to be invited, though.

Well, yes, we know about Ennio already, but nobody else for sure yet. No, I can't come, though I wish I could. As for your last question, that's somewhat doubful.

Hello everyone,
Following Hayley's interview today with Terry Wogan on BBC Radio 2, I have changed the title of this thread to what she said, which is that Quake Aid is now planned to take place in November 2011.
Cheers, Dave

Just a suggestion: Since the first post has the article saying it's in August, perhaps a note should be added in there somewhere. I was a little bit confused when I first read the post, since the title said November, but the first post said August. It made me think that the Auckland one was in August, and the Christchurch one was in November (that was before I listened to the radio interview). It took me a minute to realize this wasn't a new thread. Just a thought!
