Hi Everyone, TVNZ coverage has just finished with Hayley singing 'May It Be' as they showed scenes of the day and CHCH itself. Very moving; even at 2.03am. Graham

Hi everyone, Me too and I did manage to record all of Hayley's contribition albeit at low internet quality - the only feed that worked without dropped frames and jerkines was a small TVNZ one, which I recorded. I loved Hayley's Amazing Grace. However, I hope to have some higher quality video available for you tomorrow, after a good night's sleep and some overnight round-the-world internet magic. Oh, and a little surprise. Don't miss the surprise! Cheers, Dave

Hi all, The service was indeed very moving. The speeches were very beautiful and touching. I couldn't help crying during the video showing people helping each other. Such evidence of humanity, altruism and solidarity is wonderful to see and gives back hope in human being... Hayley's performances don't need words. She was at her best, giving a deeply moving performance of 'Amazing Grace' and her best performance of 'Pokarekare Ana' from all those I know. It was clearly obvious she was very moved and she sang with nothing else but her heart. Well done Hayley, we are proud of you. How many of us, in a similar situation, would have struggled to have just one word coming out of their mouth? You are very brave and very genuine and that's why the world love you and Christchurch and New Zealand are proud of you. I recorded Hayley's performances as well. I'll post links to them while waiting for Dave's high quality video As 'Pokarekare Ana' was an impromptu performance -as called by the presenter - I missed "Poka...". And, oh, he is speaking at the beginning of the song I also cut just before he said: "and she said 'Kia Kaha Christchurch'" and thus you also miss a bit of the ovation she received after the song. Thanks for the link Dave. I was very saddened to see Christchurch in shambles. My heart goes out to Hayley and her family. Especially her dad who lost his business in the quake. Larry

Christchurch Memorial ServiceBefore I start I will mention that Hayley will be on tonight's Closeup program again. Since it will probably be filmed live at the venue I think I will head down and try to see her there. After seeing Hayley on the Breakfast program at 7:47am I packed my picnic lunch and walked to Hagley Park arriving about 9am. The first thing I saw was Hayley being interviewed by our very own HWI member John so look forward to that interview. I didn't intrude as I thought Hayley has enough on her plate today. After talking to John for a while I found a place close to one of the 3 stages (but not in front of the stand that Hayley sat in. ). There wasn't a big crowd while the music was being played by the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra quartet, The Woolston Brass band played at the end. By the time the service started there was a very big crowd had built up . A moving part before the service started was each time a group of Search and Rescue crews arrived at the service the crowd stood and gave then a standing ovation. The service itself was very moving and I am glad they mentioned the Japan earthquake as there was a large group of Japanese here to mourn the loss of a lot of Japanese students. Prince William was very popular. Dame Malvina Major sang You'll Never Walk Alone which I also didn't think was at her best. But later after the service she did a better effort and I might upload her song later on. You can see Hayley was sitting near her on stage. Hayley did an amazing version of Amazing Grace that moved everyone who sat near me. The National Anthem was sung in the far stage so this is the best photo I had of it. After the service finished I raced around to the far stage just in time to get to the front of the stage and see Hayley start singing Pokare Kare Ana. I took a video and I thought I was doing a good job of it when near the end I realized I hadn't hit the record button . so unfortunately I only got the last bit of the song but you do get to hear the ovation she got from the very appreciative crowd. She was very tempted to do another song. You can download what I did record here:- www.mediafire.com/?1vkvlvozff7t1raI stayed and videoed Dave Dobbyn and also Dame Malvina Major. Afterwards I bumped into John and he recorded me talking about the service so you might see me here on the HWI website sometime .

Thank you to those who have posted pictures, videos, and audios of this event. Hayley's performances are poignantly beautiful.
I pray that Christchurch will be able to recover from this disaster.

Thanks for posting the interview on HWI, Dave. I just watched it there, since I saw how much trouble everyone else had with the other link. The video seemed to end rather abruptly. Was that really the end? Sophie looks so tall next to Hayley! And thank you so much for recording the songs, Juliette. It was so beautiful and emotional. And thanks for the photos!

I went back to Hagley Park and watched them make the TV One news then I saw Hayley arrive with her manager. Then they started doing Closeup. Mark Salisbury interviewed a lady who survived the collapse of the CTV building and you could tell she was pretty emotional after the interview. And as we know Hayley is a very caring girl and she gave the lady a hug. Near the end of the show they positioned Hayley by the main stage where all the flowers, messages etc were piled and she gave another emotional Capella version of Amazing Grace. At the end the small crowd that had gathered gave Hayley an ovation which I think was much appreciated. I then met Hayley and her manager and told her everyone thought she did a great job during the service and that most people were very emotional during her song. A young guy next to me had tears in his eyes and gave Hayley a hug. I think that started getting Hayley emotional too as she also had some tears as well. I thanked her on behalf of HWI for coming back to Christchurch and said my goodbyes. The video should be on Closeup later.
