As just mentioned in the Predictions for 2011 thread, this year's Classical Brits are to be held on Thursday 12th May at the Royal Albert Hall. Tickets are available online HERE or by telephone on 0207 589 8212. Please post any information relating to artists appearing etc in this thread. If we hear of any news involving Hayley in the awards or at the event launch then this thread can be moved to a more relevant Hayley area. Martin

Thanks for starting this thread, Martin! I've posted the link to the Royal Albert Hall on our Facebook Wall. When we have details of the nominations and performers, I'll post a link to this thread as well. Best wishes, Richard

Their PR company has sent me a press package. It's not called the Classical Brits anymore, but the Classic Brits, and the format is changing - it's actually gearing more towards crossover and popular music (to the chagrin of many elitists, I imagine). It's trying to be more British, include game soundtracks and music theatre.

Hello Nicola and everyone, There is a report about this in Music Week today at www.musicweek.com/story.asp?storycode=1044553 (you might need to subscribe, not sure): Personally, I think it's all a bit sad. Many will see it as dumbing down to allow London shows and the likes of Il Divo (who have never had an album in the UK classical chart) to take part. I see no Internationally recognised true classical/opera singers or musicians listed who are likely to perform core classical music (apart from the backing orchestra) in the list of performers announced so far, and if that's how it is to be in future, the only thing to get me there again would be Hayley's presence. Seems to me that Classic BRIT Awards is in search of a new wider audience but in doing so, they may lose much of their past audience and long-time supporters. I hope my fears are unfounded. Bandana have confirmed that Hayley will not be performing at this year's Awards and she may not be able to attend at all, though they are trying to make it happen. Dave

Thanks for letting us know. I wasn't expecting Hayley to perform anyway. If she's able to attend, that'll be nice, but if not, that's okay, too. I bet she'd enjoy the show, and she could reunite with the Il Divo guys. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

Hello folks! I've changed the title of this thread to reflect the new branding. I'll probably still attend whether Hayley is there or not. Incidentally, BRIT stands for British Record Industry Trust, which is a charity for young people. Read more on its website: www.brittrust.co.uk/Richard

Same opinion as Dave's... there are already few really mediatic awards in the Classical music world... I have always supported Classical Crossover and any other genres that experiment with classical music, but serious Classical music is great enough and deserves a wider audience, no stretching it to even more niche audience than it has now... Anyway, that's only my opinion.

This years awards show just gets weirder and weirder! I just got an e-mail from their press office annoucing the artist of the decade.
.. .. ..
Il Divo.
Il Divo?! I scratch my head and wonder what they have done this decade (their last studio album was in 2008). Not a single member is British (after the press release said they were concentrating on British artists) and they are not true classical artists. They mostly sing pop songs in Spanish or Italian. :/
How annoyed real classical artists must be!

Which dacade is that? This one is only 3 months old (or a year and three months depending on how you work it out). Il Divo have done nothing this decade. If it is the last one, I still can't imagine how it is justified.
I agree with Nicola. The Classical Brits seems to have lost the plot.

Hi Reuters have just announced:- I have always liked The Classical Brits as there was a mixture of "serious" and more "popular" music. This year it would appear that they are only concentrating on the "popular"! Is this for commercial reasons? The TV broadcast of the show was always on at 10:30pm, perhaps it will now be on earlier, thus generating more income from adverts? cheers Tony

I personally do like Il Divo, but hat doesn't change my disappointment... Carlos Marin has done serious opera before il Divo, and two other of the members have a proper classical training but yes, as Il Divo they are very far away from Classical Music... If we think of this award as a transformation of the Lifetime Achievement, Il Divo are not to be compared with Andrew Lloyd Webber, Josep Carreras or Kiri Te Kanawa...

Hello folks! The nominations for the Classic FM Album of the Year have just been announced, and the Central Band of the RAF are in the list with 'Reach For The Skies'. This album features Hayley singing "Danny Boy", and here's a reminder of the cover: If you vote, you stand a chance of winning a VIP trip to the Classic BRIT Awards at the Royal Albert Hall on Thursday 12th May 2011. You can see the full list of nominations and cast your vote here: www.classicbrits.co.uk/Good luck! Richard

Beatv you to it Richard. Already spotted that, and although there are a few albums nominated that I like, there is really only one choice when Hayley is involved!
Oops, just noticed I hit a milestone....
My 4000th post, and on Hayley's birthday too!
