Comet, why do you list Hayley as 0? I see that you're rating her as your top vocalist/artist, but I really don't understand what the 0 is for? A 0 to me usually signifies nothingness or something negative.

Hello Libby! I expect Comet means Hayley is better than No.1. It's probably an Irish thing. Richard

It's at the top Libby, I would have thought none of us need to list Hayley in our Top Ten on HWI, That it goes without saying. 0 (for me) is the centre point. the starting mark of any axis. usually immovable.

Huh, trying to get back on-road here, but so many things kept me away... But hopefully I will be up-to-date and back to my normal activity soon.
As for my top 10 vocalists... It's not gonna be easy, I have listened to so, so many great ones, and many yet to hear. I honestly think that very few can compare with the elite of classical singers, but then again, true. hard to compare some genres. I will mention only few names that come to my mind, haven't thought carefully of it, though. Hayley Westenra - favourite famale vocaist José Carreas - faovourite male vocalist Not in order: Máire Ní Bhraonáin - from Clannad, Enya being more experimental, but ger sister is definately a more incredible voice and better vocalist Faryl Smith - as I said sometimes, she's got a dream of a voice for a mezzo, even if by her technical skills she shouldn't really be here Miriam Blennerhassett - from Anúna, she's got such a unique voice that it evven scares me, incredible technique too. Méav Ní Mhaolchatha - I've got to hear some of the most technically flawlessly delivered notes ever from her... Elin Manahan Thomas - well, perfect voice, perfect technique and a repertoire I love... how could I not love her? Andrea Bocelli - another case where the beauty of this golden voice makes it worthy through the technical imperfections Elvis Presley - definately one of a mythic voice Sting - from The Police... as a classic rock-star or through his more varied songs, he is just splendid, a true musician by heart. Andrea Scholl - an incredibly sounding counter-tenor, with a splendid technique and a truly beautiful voice Philippe Jaroussky - yet another countertenor I love... more or less same to say as about Scholll
I think that's all, they are not in rder and probably it wouldn't be a top 10 (they are not even 10), but they are definately among my favouites.

Máire Ní Bhraonáin is an exceptional and unique conveyor of strange emotions in her music. The Robin Hood music and her earlier work like Harry's Game in particular. Her recordings and duets are scattered across so many different labels it makes her material very difficult to collect. P.S. Michael You may like the works of Micheál ó Súilleabháin, Try The Dolphin's Way

I need to add a new name to my list: Jesse J. She's just now breaking in the States and is on path for mega-stardom here. Her vocal skills are quite astonishing, like nothing we've heard before. Even if you don't care for her music there's no denying the incredible talent she has.
Jesse J...... a name that will soon rank up there with Madonna, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry.

Err... Steven, I hope you have chosen her companions in terms of stardom and not vocal skills. While Madonna and Lady Gaga could argueply have some of that, but definately Katy Perry is a rather poor example of vocal skills. If you compare Glee's cover of her hit Firework, you can see clearly all that she lacks.
And no intention to be unkind, if there are any Katy Perry fans, but I find it hard to believe that if any Hayley fan likes Katy Perry it is because of her vocal skills.
