I wonder if it was more that she had to learn the song last minute, rather than that she just didn't like it. Things like that have happened to her before; those were the kinds of things I read about in "The World at Her Feet". There was one case where she was learning a song for a show, and then suddenly they changed their mind which song she should sing. That was very stressful for her. Throughout the book, people (such as Steve Abbott) were quoted as saying how well she handled the pressure. Or maybe she had a hassle just getting there, so maybe she missed the rehearsal.

Hi Guys, Just seen the vid of the Canadian Tenors singing Hallelujah that Nicola found. (Don't get too excited, this was with Celine Dion, not Hayley). www.youtube.com/watch?v=tubL9EaiztM&feature=youtu.be&aHowever, I inagine the words were the same, and yes, they have been changed to make it more of a sad love song rather than Cohen's more gritty version, so I can't see why Hayley would have a problem with that. Perhaps you are right Juliette, she felt under rehearsed. Oh well, another theory bites the dust!!! Martin D

I join you on that idea. Well, actually I thought of something like that too for what could be the reason of her looking uncomfortable... Thank you for your thoughts on the lyrics vs. music. It's an interesting read! Thank you! Cheers, Juliette

I'm very grateful to Nicolas, Mark and Martin on such excellent reporting .
The photos taken on the night and those located by Jillian are brilliant.
The video of 'Halleluja" as performed by the Canadian Tenors with Hayley I found to be very inspirational. Cohen's words never found a truer voice when sung by Hayley.
Cheers Joe

Thanks for finding the video Jillian. I cannot agree with some comments made about Hayley's performance as I thought it was superb considering the minimum of preparation. It is also without doubt better than the recording involving Celine Dion (also on YT).
If you want to hear the Canadian Tenors at their versatile best listen to their rendition of Adagio, again on YT.

Hi Martin and everyone Thanks for finding the video Jillian. I cannot agree with some comments made about Hayley's performance as I thought it was superb considering the minimum of preparation. Having just listened to this for the first time (my speakers have to compete with my fan for electricity and my office has been stifling) I agree with Martin completely. I thought Hayley nailed the song beautifully. All I noticed was that she seemed a little unsure about where to come in at one point, completely understandable under the circumstances. Best wishes Grant

Hey Mark, Amazing pictures, the surreal glow or aura around Hayley is really cool, considering the song being sung. It would be difficult ( I would think ) to get that effect deliberately.

Hi Paul Haha, yes, don't know how I managed that, I guess there may have been an upside to having to use a phone camera after all. Best wishes Mark
