Guess what, I just got Hayley a new fan! He's a co-worker of mine, and one of my friends on facebook. He saw my link to Never Saw Blue on Facebook. Today he told me that he thinks she has an amazing voice! And he asked how I'd discovered her. Yay! He's actually the first person that I know personally, other than family, that I've ever introduced to Hayley. I never really have a chance to play music for people, and never have much time to talk to my co-workers for any length of time, so I figured the only way I could introduce them to Hayley was to be their friend on facebook. I'm so thrilled, it made my day! I've just been waiting for something like this to happen, and it finally has! I'm going to post some more songs, and hopefully get him to buy an album or two. I thought maybe we could use this thread for other people when they introduce new fans, too.

Congratulations Libby.
I've done this, but most of my friends and relations, knowing of my own addiction, will not admit to enjoying her music. Even though I have seen the odd tear in the eye of my passengers on the way to work, and my brother who was with us on or recent holiday in Islay and who usually is sceptical about my enthusiasm for Hayley's music, did admit that one particular track was "very beautiful".
So how many more are there that secretly enjoy Hayley's music, but won't admit it for fear of admitting that you were right about her all along.
Maybe that is a problem that we all face. It won't stop me from trying to interest people at every opportunity though.

Well, I've got my friend Ezequiel, classical singing student, ex-classmate, turned into a very big fan of Hayley, as much as we've been literally months discussing Hayley through Youtube videos and songs I've sent him. I am still trying to persuade him to join HWI. Now he has said he will join Twitter, convinces by Hayley's tweets. Let's hope he is with us soon.
My mom was a little doubtful at first too, but after a car drive listening to Winter Magic, she is much more convinces about Hayley. My grandparents won't be really big fans, but after hearing River of Dreams, asked me a copy. My mates at the university been told much about Hayley, they admit she is good but for most of them it is not the style they enjoy most... Well, except from one, who listens to New Age music and surprised me knowing Hayley before I told him, form the collaboration with Mike Oldfield.
My best friend, Claudia, jokes that Hayley is her biggest enemy... never explained why, although I guess for two main reasons: the battle of who will get more of my attention and also she is a musician too, flutist, so she has some kind of competition with her, lol... But, of course, those are jokes, after that she admits that she has a wonderful voice and sings very fine. Not much hope, however, in turning her into a big fan, but who knows, xD.

Most people I know personally are a bit too narrow minded (or ignorant) about this kind of thing. They assume she's an "opera" singer and they don't want to know. However, I did get my next door neighbour into Hayley. I confess I make her compilation CDs every now and again to give her a taste of different artists. Hayley stood out for her and she has since bought her albums herself. I had a spare copy of Pure (it was an edition I didn't like, I preferred the other edition I had) and since my Aunt was big on Katherine Jenkins, I just gave it to her on a whim. The next time I saw her she was like 'Katherine who?' She was totally taken by Hayley, and my Uncle even told me off as he says, that although he likes Hayley too, it's a bit annoying to have Hayley on in the car ALL the time. XD XD Hayley is her favourite artist now, and I'm sure, were she more competent on the computer and writing, she would be on this forum.

I have lots of other music available to play in the car, but I admit that nearly everytime I play music, it's Hayley 99% of the time. I think it's funny what your uncle said, though. i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifI'm not that worried about the new fans being on the forums. Most important to me is that they like her and buy her albums. I'll try to see about getting Luke (Hayley's newest fan) to join the forum. I did send him an invitation to join Hayley Westenra's official facebook page, though.

I was sitting in the car in the car park of the shopping centre this evening, I find the groceries cost much less if I don't go into the shops. It was a warm evening here in Dublin, I had the windows down and was listening to Paradiso, not to loud, I swear. A couple approached walking across the car park from my left, himself in the lead, herself on crutches and about eight months or more gone. I noticed she had slowed down significantly as they passed across in front of me and eventually disappeared into another section of the car park. about a minute later a car approached from the right with the windows down, it stopped just to my right and I heard the engine go off, Hmmmmmmmm. rather strange, herself was listening out the window and they were having some discussion in the car and eventually himself gets out and approaches my car and says; "My wife wants to know who or what the music you are playing is ? "
I said Hayley Westenra to him he looked blankly at me and repeated it and she called from the car "Is it her new album ?" I confirmed that, she smiled, I gave her the thumbs up and off they went.

Hi Paul That is a wonderful story! I wonder if her in the car directed him to the nearest CD shop! I'd like to be the one to stand outside the shop and say "buy Paradiso" to the shoppers as I hand out a flyer. At work, I listen to 'Paradiso' quite a bit. Since my employer is in a bit of a cash pickle...the fluorescent light fixture that is in the ceiling above my cubicle remains unfixed. It's quite dark where I sit. So, with my iPod at my desk propped up, the album cover image of 'Paradiso' on its screen, and its brightness at full, it's quite bright for all to see! Of course, there is a few photos of Hayley and her CD's on my cubicle walls!

That is a lovely story Comet and one which I have always hoped to be able to tell! The first "new" Hayley CD I bought was Odyssey and I got my copy from Australia about a month before the UK release. Spent ages driving round with the windows open and the CD playing loudly in the hope that someone would recognise Hayley and ask about the CD but, alas, no one ever did. They didn't/haven't with Paradiso either! Best wishes Grant

I suppose there was a bit of luck involved, It's an underground car park and it was perfectly quiet for just that right few moments, there is usually a racket going on with people pushing supermarket trolleys around over the rough concrete surface. Which causes me to turn the music up just a "little" louder Also the employees had unplugged the speakers for the background music system, I presume the background music (drivel) had irritated them enough and they disconnected it. @ Grant, Would speakers on the roof be going to far ?

I was at university today and we had our freshers' fayre and part of that involves registering for various charities and the poppy appeal was one of them, I was really pleasantly surprised to see huge posters of Hayley and Dame Vera Lynn both seperately and together with their poppies from the 2009 poppy appeal launch - I overheard a few people around me saying 'who is that girl? she's very pretty!',whilst pointing to the posters- they were really hard to miss even from across a room with over 200 people in!-- including a couple of people I met yesterday and so I told them, well, all that I could who she is- well I gave them her name obviously and tried to say more, but my voice was really playing up and it was complete chaos in the building at the time, but to be honest I'm not sure whether I was more surprised about the fact that they could hear me say her name, or that I said anything really, as generally speaking I'm really shy especially when it comes to people I've never met before...I'm hoping they'll do some more research now. Over 80 people signed up to volunteer for the poppy appeal this year there, I like to think it had something to do with them seeing Hayley, although it's great that so many have an interest in the poppy appeal these days anyway for whatever reason. I'm also hoping that at least some of them will hear some of Hayley's songs too and perhaps buy an album or two of hers. I've just sent some songs: Pokarekare Ana- they'd never heard of the Maori language, it took me an amazing amount of time to explain to them (well, it consisted of me mainly making signs to them, and then writing it down- considering I don't know the sign for New Zealand, or 'native language' I think I did pretty well haha , Amazing Grace (the English and Japanese one from the Japanese Paradiso) and Whispers in a Dream, to some people I met yesterday who are doing the same course as me, and they seemed really impressed which is great considering they're really die-hard rock fans!! Two of them have ordered Paradiso on amazon already!!! Although they say they're not very keen on La Callifa, but I guess you can't have it all- I'll work on that haha!! Best wishes Sing

Well done Sing.
Keep chat flowing. I remain astounded at the number of people I meet whom I would have judged knowledgeable of Hayley but in fact have never heard of her. So I was particularly delighted to find Alan and Marie in my hotel in Llandudno who not only knew of her but were desirous to attend a concert. Marie was most impressed by a radio interview Hayley gave when she sang a cappella on the spur of the moment.

I suppose there was a bit of luck involved, It must be the luck of the Irish. Sing, that's great that you got your friends to actually buy her CD! I just saw my post at the top of this page, where I say I got a new fan for Hayley. Well, he heard a couple songs, but never mentioned it again, and now he doesn't even work at my store anymore. We're still friends on FB, though, and I do post Hayley videos every so often. But I don't see him on there much anymore, and nobody else, other than other Hayley fans, say anything about my Hayley posts.

Well, in 2009, when WM first came out I was at Border's looking at all the Christmas CDs on display and Hayley's album was among them. Another lady was looking at the CDs as well. We got to talking and she mentioned that every Christmas she and her husband buy a few new Holiday albums to add to their collection. Flipping awesome idea if you ask me! I pulled Hayley's CD out and showed it to her explaining that this is one CD to definitely have as part of her collection. I went on to say that although Hayley's not huge (yet!) in the States she had 4 international albums you could still buy at Borders, ya de da. She looked at the CD and seemed really impressed (I must say by now I'd briefed her on a bit more about Hayley) and added WM to her stack of Xmas CDs to buy!!!
I also got my high school art teacher hooked on Hayley as well!!
Happy Autumn, Paige
