Have you ever heard a tune and thought it would make a great song if only someone would set words to it ? I thought that when I first heard Samuel Barber's Violin Concerto many years ago. I've heard a lot of classical music in my life and if there exists a more beautiful classical tune than this I haven't heard it yet !

Hi Jeff, as a group of people the members of this forum would probably be very tolerant of what you have suggested, there are others who would cringe in horror at the idea.
I'm not sure if I would like to hear lyrics over this piece of music, I think we all have very different places where the mind goes when we hear a piece of music.
Once you hear lyrics (or even see images) added to a familiar piece of music, it can't be undone, some might even say tainted. A similar situation exists when music is used in advertising, cigars and sheep spring to mind.
During the recent rugby world cup George Hamilton played World in Union by Hayley Westenra on RTE Lyric FM and he mentioned that he was astounded by the responses that listeners had sent in by email, the extremes of negative and positive.

Probably moreso since Dolores O’Riordan’s sad passing in January 2018, I find myself regularly returning to The Cranberries’ music. Which ultimately leads me to Siobhan Owen’s great version of their song ‘Dreaming My Dreams’.
I seen Siobhan in concert back in 2015, and this version was one of the lasting memories from that day (although this performance is from another concert).

On the subject of adding images or video to a piece of music. I could look at this over and over again.

It's strange the thread of thoughts that make you think of a song. I was listening to Scala Radio this morning which reminded me of an excellent Belgian choir. I've also been thinking a lot about Ireland north and south of the border (well, what's a backstop between friends ?!) and thought as far as the north is concerned, we may be leaving the EU with or without you. (And probably not at all !). With the greatest respect Comet to your rock band from Dublin, U2, this is my favourite version of their 1987 hit.

I have been meaning to get the Scala & Kolacny Brothers albums for years, I just wrote a post-it and stuck it in my wallet to remind me the next time I am in Tower Records to look for their albums. They are just so easy to listen to. I remember well when the Joshua Tree was released at how good the album was, it was certainly their best to date at the time and would still be the one I would most likely select to play even now. I still have their first single release on 12" vinyl, it has become quite a collectors item. Their early stuff was pretty much just punk rock, but then again some good musicians flourished among the weeds of the punk rock era, I think Hayley's first manager Steve Abbott came from that background. Edit. Just Checked, Scala and Kolacny have more than sixteen albums out and nearly as many different record companies, might just check them out on Spotify OOOOOOOOppppppppppsssssssss just clicked the buy it now button again, heeeeeeeeeeeeellllpppppppppp

Hi Paul, what a fabulous piece of audio-video artistic engineering ! Never seen this one before, and I had no idea it was Gigliola until the first close-up. I assume the video used (and re-re-used!) is from a film way back when, do you know which one? My goodness me, that was one pleasant surprise!

Hi Jeff, Thanks for reminding me about Scala and Kolacny, I ordered Et Si On Etait Des Anges (And if we were angels) the same time as the above posts. It has been in my five disc rotator since I got it. It is most pleasant. YouTube is great, but you have to attend to it like cooking, skipping adverts, and choosing tracks. Put a cd on and it just plays, no more further attention needed.

I thought it was in The Gigliola Cinquetti thread. I have no idea of the origin of the piece of film, Gigliola was in and out of TV studios on a regular basis all through her career, she wasn't afraid to play dress up and perform her song and dance routines in some unusual outfits, most amusing to say the least, she may well be still working as a TV presenter. it's a pity she did not record more material in English, it would have made her more attractive to the English speaking countries of the world.
