None of my favourites were up there Katherine, Hayley and Russell rung a bell but there are still artists I prefer to them. I voted for Russell for the male one (it seems he is last, lol!) I'm not fond of the groups (Il Divo and G4), Vittorio has been on the scene for 5 seconds and I think Andrea Bocelli is vastly over-rated. Russell isn't my favourite, but he was out of the selection they had. For the females - again my favourites weren't there. OperaBabes rub me up the wrong way, especially after their performance at Classic Response (sorry to those who enjoyed them), I wouldn't class Lesley as 'crossover', Amy Nuttall has only released one album so she is in the same boat as Vittorio. That left Katherine and Hayley. Tough choice really. Neither enter my stereo much. Hayley probably does more so than Katherine but not by a lot. I chose Katherine in the end. There are many reasons but it was a tough choice The poll ignored the likes of Vanessa Mae, Sarah Brightman, Josh Groban, Keedie, Emma Shapplin, Sissel - all my favourites. But I guess GMTV can't really put them up there due to them being practically unknown in the UK. Not that neither of my choices mattered - they are both losing by a significant amount, especially poor Russell! Lol!

Classical Brits would not allow voting from outside the UK - the GMTV poll does. Katherine has more fans in the UK but not Worldwide. We in the UK tried our best and *almost* made it. It was very VERY close (less than 1% margin), trust me! Dave

Dave I made a comment at the time that Hayley was outvoted by the Welsh as a nation being more musically-conscious and instinctively supporting their own, hence an inbuilt 'mass' turnout for Kathryn. However, on my tour through Wales I foud several people who, in casual discussion and mentioning several singers actually preferred Hayley to Kathryn! Peter

Hello folks! This thread has turned into a very interesting discussion. The poll seems to be clearly demonstrating how popular Hayley is around the world, while Katherine's dedicated fans are mainly here in the UK. There has certainly been very little change in the percentages for the last week, so I doubt if Hayley can miss out now! i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gifBest Wishes from London, Richard

Yes Richard I agree there. Here's today's result: (url below) www.gm.tv/index.cfm?articleid=19707Amy Nuttall 0.59% Hayley Westenra 70.39% Katherine Jenkins 7.07% Lesley Garrett 20.93% Opera babes 1.02% A slight digression while I write this: Last night ABC TV covered the Kangaroos vs All Blacks game which was won 32: 12 by NZ. At the opening was Yulia Townsend (NZ Anthem) singing her heart out in what looked like freezing conditions. David Bewley (??) sang the Aussie Anth. We watched afterwards Hayley's clip around 2002 singing NZ Anthem. She was brilliant then & (in my opinion) still is unsurpassed...................................Graemek

David Bewley sang the NZ anthem both in Maori and English. The Australian Rugby Team are “The Wallabies” not Kangaroos Cheers, Rodders

Thanks a million Rodders, How embarrassing!! Could'nt have got it more wrong if I tried. As soon as I saw Yulia appear I automatically "heard' the NZ anthem.
Also my sports knowledge is very sparse. cheers Graemek

Hi Graeme , I would not let it worry you, It must have been a blonde moment Surely there was a Australian in NZ who could have sung the Aussie anthem, and they could have let Yulia sing the NZ Anthem so she could put her heart and soul into it. but she may not know it in Maori yet,i guess. Belinda ps I did not watch the game so i can't comment to much and i've never heard David B pps we better divert back on topic or Richard will be after us Great to see Hayley leading in the poll isn't it Graeme and Rodders i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif

Yes, re Hayley's rating shown by the voting %'s.
It's rather thrilling really.
The word amazing does get over used I suppose but she is just that!! We're also waiting with bated breath for a concert to be arranged this side of the globe!! Graemek
