St Pauls Church Ashburton 7:30pm Friday 5th Nov It was a horrible miserable day weather wise today with torrential rain. The annual Guy Fawkes Fireworks display was postponed. The Canterbury Waikato Rugby final was also tonight (Canterbury won i.postimg.cc/9fYxy370/smilie-big-grin.gif) but I instead headed off to Asnburton (my home town) about 1 hour South of Christchurch. Unfortunately it was rush hour so it took a long time to get out of Christchurch and I also had a 10 minute wait at the Rakaia River road bridge as a large crane crossed it. ( It is a long bridge about 1 mile). Any way I got to Ashburton safely in time to have some MacDonalds for dinner. At 7:10pm I met my mum and we went into the church. A large crowd turned up and it was almost a full house of about 150. Ian had a hand bandaged and Fiona said because of the cold weather they had a fire going at their house, but Ian had tripped over the dog and put his hand in the fire ( ouch). But like a true professional he is he played the keyboard and did a very good job too. The set list was very similar to the last concert but in the first half Fiona did play Them There Eyes. After the interval another new song they have played sometimes on the tour was Reinhardt's Minor Swing. We cannot have clapped enough tonight as there was no encore. I introduced Mum to Fiona and Ian and said I will see them in Kaiapoi on Saturday.

Kaiapoi Working Men Club 7:30pm Sat 6th Nov Much nicer day today when I arrived in Kaiapoi (15 minutes North of Christchurch). I had a lovely steak dinner in the local pub and then I took some photos of the Earthquake damage near the venue. Kaiapoi had a lot of damage from the earthquake mainly from the ground liquefying. Foot Bridge across the Kaiapoi River opposite the venue. Building being demolished. Local department store The local info centre is on a lean as the ground sank on one side. The venue for tonight's show is very big and we had tables to sit around plus we could have drinks too. It was pretty full with about 100 people. Fiona had a lovely new dress tonight. Two changes to the set list had the return of two old favourites Turkish Fantasy and Memories Of Home. Fiona's parents were in the audience tonight plus Mike Ferrar's wife. Czardist always catches the audience out as Fiona pauses half way through the song, you can almost see Fiona expecting the audience to clap lol. The second half set list was unchanged but I really loved the song Cathedral Tango it is a really great tune. This time we did clap long enough and for the encore they played Dark Eyes. So the tour has come to an end and Fiona and Ian said they had a great tour playing to packed venues. It will be February before I see Fiona play again in the Isaac Theatre Royal. Ian says hello to everyone in the forum.
