Well done, Belinda. Thank you Kiwi for the NZ magazine article. Okay to read with a reading glass and just readable with patience for those who don't have one.
Very distressed that she is admitting to being unnerved, but then she is young and so petite. The more of this I read the madder i feel on her behalf.
But it also brings out Jill's and Gerald's concern and it is good to have their views to put the whole thing in perspective. it must be worrying for all the family, it doesn't just affect Hayley and no young person, starting out with their own apartment and learning to run their own life should have those precious years of fun-filled freedom finding their feet in their own way and own time spoilt in this manner.
We're all behind you Hayley, and in front too if need be! Peter

Hi Belinda, Many thanks for scanning this article for us! Do you happen to have any larger images of the scanned article in your photo staging suite please? If so between Forum members, I'm sure we can work some "magic" for you! Regards, Andrew Andrew, refer to Stuart H's suggestion and my slightly earlier post. Peter

Hi Peter ; Hayley looks embarrassed not of the bodyguard himself but the fact of having to have have one. or downright un happy, looking at the ground . The crazed fans have alot to answer for in making Hayley feel this way Belinda

(sigh) I guess the article is still making the rounds, I've seen this in one form or another since the Germany incident. There's a fine line between devoted and crazed, it quite frankly isn't the whackos you need to worry about, it's those who are just the north side of crazed, who can appear normal and charming one minute, and then do something outlandish the next. I think Hayley's better off with a security man, like it or not, but I also think it's better if he can be a low-key presence as opposed to a heavy-handed thug, since that's just going to make things worse. And as to those of you who want to protect Hayley, I'm sure she appreciates the sentiment, but as a lawyer I can tell you that getting involved in that kind of thing's a bad idea unless you are in fact a security professional. Training and insurance issues are only the tip of the iceberg.

Many thanks for scanning the article, Belinda, and it's great to hear from you again. I managed to read it with no problems, but I'll repeat a little tip for anybody who might be having difficulty. The text is noticeably easier to read if you turn down both the brightness and contrast of the computer screen. I hope Hayley will continue to enjoy her career, including the good relationship with her real fans. As I've said before, we must all remain vigilant at her concerts. Steven has made a valid point that we shouldn't get too involved, but we should certainly report anything suspicious to one of Hayley's team or the venue's staff. Best Wishes from London, Richard

I think Hayley's better off with a security man, like it or not, but I also think it's better if he can be a low-key presence as opposed to a heavy-handed thug, since that's just going to make things worse. Hi Steven, Hayley had a female security guard with her on her UK Churches tour last November/December and she most certainly was low-key and unobtrusive. It was interesting to chat with her from time to time and needless to say, she could in no way be described as a heavy handed thug! When we met Hayley in the interval at the Classical Brits, there was no obvious sign of security and in fact, Hayley wandered over to us on her own (albeit within the main arena of the Royal Albert Hall itself). There was clearly a security presence on the floor, with so many celebs and execs packed together. Some were, shall we say, "heavy" but they managed to remain unobtrusive and were not following people around as in the photo of Hayley and her guard in Belinda's scan. I think those two examples, covering two very different venue types that Hayley attends, should put our minds at rest. Her advisors do seem to know what they are doing here and I am quite certain they have been doing it quietly in the background since long before any of the "security scare" media articles appeared. It's easy to forget that the stage jumper in Berlin did not reach Hayley - and according to an Il Divo forum member, he was chased and caught by two of the Arena security staff. As for the rest of us, all we need to do is provide some extra pairs of eyes and ears, just as Richard has suggested. Cheers, Dave

Hmmm, I wonder if that's the same woman who guards that other singer, but I doubt it. Seriously, Hayley did have a woman with her in June of 2004 at Joe's Pub who seemed to be "in charge," and was the one who made the ultimate decision that it was time to go, but I dunno if she was a security person. She was about 5' 4", blonde/auburn hair, with a long nose (no insult intended if this person reads this), and definitely Commonwealth by her accent, though I can't say if she was British or NZ. Alas, I didn't get a picture of her. Maybe this was Giselle, since Steve Abbott wasn't there that time?
I agree, just try to provide extra eyes and ears, but DON'T be paranoid, most people do in fact have a reason to be doing what they are doing, and I am sure the actual security people appreciate over-paranoid fans only slightly more than the police appreciate overzealous community watch people who phone in every gardener who they think doesn't belong in the neighborhood, every illegally parked car, and every barking dog. Don't even think of laying hands on anyone or challenging anyone without a clear and present danger of injury or destruction of something, because then it will most likely be YOU who goes to jail, to say nothing of having to try to fend off a civil suit.

First, he haopens to be a big man. Second, look at his face and I'm not so sure that is a fair description. Although (if it is the same one) Andrew, who has seen him in the flesh, did provide a similar description. Surely, the mere presence of such an obvious heavyweight dissuades? It is prevention we are after, surely, not cure/reaction to an incident? Also, she being so diminutive, ordinary guys look big! Peter

Richard did you try reading the scan i posted before the one thats there now the writing was tiny. Hello Belinda! I didn't find your scan until after you'd enlarged it to 633 x 876 pixels, so I didn't see the tiny text. I always wear low-strength reading glasses when I'm on the computer, and I was able to read the article perfectly easily without changing the brightness and contrast settings. I do find reducing the settings helps with very small text, because it takes the glare out of the background. It's a tip I like to share when appropriate, and some people might still find it helpful in this case. The settings are probably a matter of personal preference, and I like the screen fairly bright, especially for looking at photographs. Love to you and Kimberley, Richard xx

Now that is very interesting Dave, because I attended several of those and I was TOTALLY unaware of any such presence! On the other hand, I could have chatted with her as there is so often a long wait for us 'tail-end Charlies' and assumed she was part of the venue's security rather than Hayley's personal security. Of, course, the key to true self-defence art, including defence/protection of others has (apparently) more to do with technique than brawn. Peter

Hi Peter, Remember Hayley had her male bodyguard with her at 'The Lowry' on 6th December 2005. He seemed very tall (even whilst sitting down on Hayley's right hand side) and was very straight faced (as one would have expected him to be!) as he had to remain very vigilant on what was going on around Hayley. He didn't say anything, but smiled a little as he assisted Hayley in packing up all the little presents into a box from the Christmas stocking which we gave her (remember?) We joked that Hayley had her own "personal shopper" to carry all of her messages! Regards, Andrew

Regards, Andrew Ah yes, I remember him and while seeming poker-faced (as you say probably due to covert alertness) seemed most amiable in a detached sort of way, which of course would be correct. But in fact I think I thought he was her driver! Unless I'm confused (hghly probable!), because I'd seen him with her car when approaching the rear of the building before the concert. In the wait afterwards we recognised one another. He was most amiable and we shook hands. Peter
