The Wedding Report

I thought I would keep this part separate from the other thread so if you want to comment on the wedding you can do it here and if you want to add your congratulations to my wedding card you can do it on the Fiona and Ian Wedding subtopic.

It was such a lovely hot day in Christchurch that I decided to go for a drive. I went to Lyttleton via Sumner (over the Evans Pass) getting great views of the Lyttleton Harbour. I then decided I would hop onto the ferry and cross the harbour to Diamond Harbour.

After a short walk up the hill I reached Godley House which is a popular spot for tourists where you can sit outside in the shade and order food and drinks. Well to my great surprise I saw that there was a sign saying Fiona and Ians Wedding (snicker snicker, I had a hunch that this was where the wedding would be).
I had to wait a couple of hours for the wedding but I enjoyed the views ( and the beers lol ). I also saw fellow HWI member John setting up the video cameras to film the wedding. I saw Ian arrive early and the fellow band members soon arrived too. Someone also brought along Fiona's 2 dogs.
I couldn't miss the wedding party as the bride maids arrived in a World War 2 vehicle followed by the white wedding car carrying Fiona and her dad and last was a red Mustang.

This is for Jillian as she wanted to see the dress lol. Fiona and Dad.

The wedding ceremony was held outside and was reasonably informal with a marriage celebrant doing all the formalities plus a short speech by Fiona's sister Jill.

Oh I think I forgot to mention that a certain family was there too lol.

Yes Hayley did arrive with her boyfriend, and NO I will not reveal who he is as Hayley would not want me to and also I don't recognize him so I wouldn't know his name anyway.





I am glad they had such a lovely day for the wedding. I didn't get to talk to anyone But hopefully I will see all of them next month at the Blackbarn concert.

Thanks for the photos! Fiona looks very pretty! I love the wedding dresses which have the lace overlay -- very romantic and perfect for a garden wedding! Best wishes to them.

Jillian, you are a thousand times more qualified than I to explain this (apparent) quirk of Kiwi custom, but why is Fiona's dad not dressed up for the occasion? This is only, what, his daughter's wedding?? If I were the father of the bride I would at least rent a tux.

Hi Steve,

Probably less so a quirk of Kiwi custom and more to do with the overall theme of the wedding. It seems to be quite a casual affair, so perhaps a suit jacket wasn't deemed necesary. There's a million ways to do a wedding and it all comes down to what you have in mind.

Many thanks for the superb pictures from Fiona and Ian's wedding - looks like they were having a lovely and relaxed time.

I'm pretty sure from what I could see that Hayley was wearing the dress she wore for the iTunes concert; thought Jill looked lovely too!

Yes Grant Hayley's dress was the itunes one. Oh by the way everyone don't bother looking for the boyfriend in the photos as I made sure he wasn't in any of them lol.

I will not give too much away Graeme but the way they hanged around together he was definitely her boyfriend . He wore a nice suit the type that you would hire to wear at a flash wedding so he looked good.

and i nearly went to Diamond Harbour that weekend too to see my parents

i got in enough trouble once for making sure Hayley got flowers one time she was home,

Fiona looks very lovely, her dress, and her hair look gorgeous.

I agree, Grant, Jill looks very lovely in that one photo. What a nice smile.

Ross, hat was very considerate of you to conceal his identity, as Hayley would wish. Of course, we'd all love to know, but it would not be appropriate to reveal it without Hayley's permission. I'm at least glad to know once and for all who he isn't, anyway.
