In what almost passes as news of the weird, the State Senate of Pennslyvania unanimously passed a floor resolution today honoring Jackie Evancho.
Having also received the blessing of the O person herself, the aforementioned EP/DVD immediately went to #1 on Amazon.....

I saw Jackie perform on the Oprah Winfrey Show...mixed results. Was a twenty-odd backing choir really needed for 'Pie Jesu'? And I didn't care for all that makeup and lipstick on Jackie. I heard that her parents pulled her debut album from the market, saying that was Jackie's voice from last year. Right after Simon's voice from this year. too much, too fast

I can believe the reason for why the album was pulled. I own it, and it sounds nothing like her. Much in the way WITA doesn't sound like the real Hayley. It gives the wrong impression of her voice.
I would have pulled it off the shelves, too.

That was the "real" Hayley back then. It was just the "old" Hayley. That's just how she sounded at that age, and without having worked with Malvina Major yet. So I imagine that Jackie did sound like that back then. The recording couldn't have marred her voice that much.

Libby, I didn't literally mean they were fake voices. But if people bought PoD, they may have thought that was all her voice had to offer. Her vocals are exceptional for a girl her age, of course, but they aren't great on there. She got 10 times better after only three months of recording. It's a fleeting snap shot of her voice and it doesn't represent what she has to give to the world.

I can see why you said that about Hayley, though, because I do think her voice is far better than it was then.

Libby When you are Jackie's age, it doesnt take a whole lot of time for things to change in your voice. She is already demonstrably better now than she was during AGT - her live version of O Mio Babbio Caro for example doesnt show any strain at all that I can hear. Her voice is a whole lot different now than it was a year ago. Somewhere in the time elapsed, Jackie became a professional singer. Btw Nicola - I think you may have to revisit Jackie's "success" rating on her page soon .

We may have a remarkable little story brewing here. A tweet from Jackie informs us that her release had the second biggest day of pre-sales in Amazon history. Additionally she just passed Taylor Swift for the best selling CD for October so far - and she did this giving Taylor over a week head start.
Not sure how this translates into actual sales or eventual Billboard Chart position, but it still sounds interesting (to me anyway)
We now return the forum to its regularly scheduled programming

Mihizawi, I too hope someday Jackie will sing Schubert's Ave Maria in German, as well as other lieder, which I think classical crossover singers should be good at if they take time to learn the language and songs. After first hearing Jackie sing, i was curious about what could be expected in regards to how her voice might change as she gets older. I came across this article: www.leedberg.com/voice/pages/female.htmlIt seems to say that her present age is when children can switch easily between their lower and higher register, but that the next few years for her might pose some difficulties. How does this square with Hayley's and other young singers' experiences?

Jackie, as well as Hayley, Charlotte Church, Becky Taylor and probably every other child crossover singer all produced vibratro years befpre this expert thinks they will.
Jackie hasnt been around long enough to age of course, but in the case of the others, time did nothing to decrease the usable range either. If there is a pattern in these cases, it is that the voice lowers and deepens somewhat - the range drops perhaps a third, and the tonal quality gets richer/darker as they go through their teens.
Becky recorded an album at 12 and 14, and has done several local YouTube type things since. Charlotte recorded at 12,13,14, and 15. Hayley recorded something every year from the time she was 13 until the present. Except for the change in overal tonal placement, none of them showed any of the indications mentioned in this article. To be fair, Charlote's voice may have darkened to the point that she wasnt going to mainstream commercial at about 15.
I think that this article is likely valid given that the student is a merely average talent taking lessons. I am not sure that any of this applies to the exceptional voice at all.

I see this was never linked here, so I am going to temporarily break my sel-imposed rule ') It is a far better example of just what she is capable of as Jackie the professional singer outside of the AGT spotlight. Also David Foster gives her one heck of an introduction - be sure to watch his expression at the end of the performance as well, as he seems about to melt off of his seat. www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4E3O9iaeqM
