Get that dog a trampoline! I wonder if John Lewis sells them.

Hello Jeff! The advert is quite alright....indeed it was wonderful! I never knew John Lewis had a annual Christmas advert! i had a quick look at some other years... and found them to be as wonderful. Nothing comparable to any American department stores...although I recall Macy's airing TV commercials about an in-store mailbox. Glad you enjoyed it Joe. Most of our big stores have a special advert for Christmas. I have robins on my charity Xmas cards and sometimes feed them by hand in my garden so I also like the Waitrose ad: But my favourite advert from Waitrose was in 2009 which introduced me to Camilla Kerslake:

Facebook scores extra points over YouTube because it can show videos in the vertical format! Richard Hi Richard, Youtube can if you play them full screen though www.youtube.com/watch?v=GChVcmKNqbs . The odd thing is that none of the embedded Facebook videos you are posting show up in the forum for me... just your comments and... blankness. I have to quote then copy the link and post it in a new tab, odd. It could be my internet security being over-enthusiastic, of course. But the best EVER John Lewis advert for me wasn't strictly a Christmas ad at all, it's their 2010 ad "Always A Woman" sung by Fyfe Dangerfield. It follows the life of a girl from birth to old age in 90 seconds and is the only ad I can remember that made me cry. It still does too! Best played in full screen. Cheers and tears Dave

Dave So it's not just me, slow loading of "Recent Posts" depending on how many of them have embedded Instagram, Twitter or YouTube items. I get the impression there should be something in a post but I don't get to see it until I use a different laptop... Oh well, modern life, I gather that windows 10 won't let the RTE player work.

Richard, what do you say to Donald Trump if you meet him on a Scottish golfcourse and he's wearing a kilt ?

I don't have problem loading posts, but there are certain threads where, when I click the thread which leads me to the last post, when it gets to the page, it will bounce around like crazy until it finally decides to settle on the bottom-most-post. I would say that occurs most frequently on the Classical Reflection thread. I'm not sure why, but I do think that thread has the most embedded social media posts per page, so I think that's probably what's causing it. I have to close my eyes until it's finished!

Yes, I get the same effect. I think what it is doing is rearranging the page to fit the images in. Images are quite large, so take a little while to download, depending on the speed of your link. It used to be that we were careful about posting images, limiting the number per post so that those with slow connections weren't compromised. But these days most people have fast broadband, so it is not so much of a problem. In fact the limiting factor might well be the server nowadays for most people. The threads where this is most noticeable are the ones where there are lots of images, and most of the posts in for example the CR thread have images. If you are loading the final page, which is usually the case for regular visitors, how much of this you get will depend on hpe many images there are on that page. Martin D

You're probably right, Martin. It happened a little for this thread today, since there are several videos and such on this page in particular. But not nearly as much as the CR thread. I think it occasionally happens on the Hayley social media page, too. But, since she tweets far less frequently than CR, it's not as much.
