Tianjin Explosions 2015Here's a random video I stumbled across while reading up on vertical video lst night (for the Taiwan concert thread) - my PC was connected to my hifi system, it nearly blew my eyes as well as my ears! You may well have seen it before, it's perhaps the most shocking video of that terrible series of explosions in Tianjin, China last year, taken from an apartment some distance away... and shocking is definitely the word if connected to your headphones or big speakers as I was when it popped up to take me by surprise. It was a terrible tragedy though with many people killed and injured. It also shows that vertical video sometimes 'accidentally' works, because if it had been taken horizontally, the biggest fireball would probably have been missed from the shot. Workplace and family warning - the language used by those seeing it is nearly as extreme as the video so take care who's listening. I am only going to post the link, not embed it, for that reason. www.youtube.com/watch?v=cO1q3HwB0y0Dave

I wasn't sure where to put this- it's not really worth starting a new thread in the media board or anywhere I think, anyway. But I just thought I'd mention that Hayley was an answer to a question on the UK quiz show The Chase on the ITV channel this afternoon. I'm not sure how many here are familiar with the show but I just happened to stumble across it at the time this question was asked as I was looking for something to watch. There never is much at 5pm so I should know better perhaps LOL. I'll try to find the link to the show on the ITV player but I don't know how many people can watch it. It's only a few seconds about 2/3rds of the way through the show (the last contestant).
It's not really that exciting of course but I was just surprised I guess that they featured a question and even mentioned Hayley to be honest. It was a question like which of these singers was born furthest east from London; Hayley Westenra, Kanye West and someone else, I've forgotten who it was. The contestant got the answer wrong. I doubt he'd heard of Hayley to be honest, but Bradley Walsh (the presenter) was right and said she's from New Zealand.

LOL Kanye West is from the US, so it's only east if you go almost all the way around the world first.

You may laugh but let's consider Mr Cowell's fitness for government: 1. He's a billionaire. 2. He has a background in reality shows. 3. He has no experience of politics whatsoever. 4. He does business deals which benefit him far more than his clients. 5. He has a photogenic family. Remind you of anyone ? Simon has said he wouldn't want to run our country but that was before he found out you don't need to know anything about the job ! (A bit like the people on his shows!). You may think all this is fanciful. People laughed when Donald said he'd run for President. Well they're not laughing now ! Remember you heard it here first folks !

I was also laughing at the cat one. I will say he's not quite as ugly as Trump, and he likes dogs (most likely much more than he does people, for which I can sympathize, LOL). Well, at least Trump was a businessman before he was on TV. Although I have to say, our last President who was formerly a TV star was quite excellent, the last GOOD president we had. Not that I think Trump will be good, but I'm just saying.

I might be getting old and cynical, but I think this whole cult of personality in politics is a smokescreen. It is the rich and powerful who mostly run things, and what you get is one or other party machine when you elect a president. Both parties of course have their sponsors, who expect something back for their money. It is all part of the illusion of democracy. Whether you like or dislike the president has very little to do with how good a job he and his 4000 staff will do. There is still hope for America.

I don't know if this breaks the forum's advertising code but here's the original and actually very beautiful it is too with a song I've always loved.

Hello Jeff!
The advert is quite alright....indeed it was wonderful! I never knew John Lewis had a annual Christmas advert! i had a quick look at some other years... and found them to be as wonderful.
Nothing comparable to any American department stores...although I recall Macy's airing TV commercials about an in-store mailbox.
